Psalm 27:13-14 "I am still confident of this; I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." (NIV)
Like most Americans I'm thinking about 9-11 today. "THE 9-11...2001. It's weird to think that for 1000's of years 9-11 was just another day. It was somebody's birthday, someone's anniversary, the day to see someone's new grand-baby born, a day to begin college for the first time, or just an ordinary day in September that was ignored by most people as unremarkable.
Never again. Now 9-11 is infamous and noteworthy and tarnished. Now each year we wonder "will it happen again?" A day for anxiety perhaps---at least a little bit. Would you book an airplane flight that day? I'm not sure that I would.
We got through 9-11, but we don't forget it. "America the invincible" became "America the vulnerable". Some people in other countries live through the possibility of a 9-11 scenario every day. Their countries are unsafe and unstable. Terrorists live there all the time. We aren't used to that.
I wanted to write a Bible verse today but don't know which one. Nothing comes to mind that seems to fit the day. I just opened my Bible to a verse in Psalms:
"I am still confident of this; I will see the goodness of the LORD in the land of the living. Wait for the LORD; be strong and take heart and wait for the LORD." Psalm 27:13-14 (NIV)
Wait---hope---trust God. That's always the answer, even when the world has gone crazy. Thank you, Lord God for hope and your unfailing love. Thank you that we have hope and peace in Christ Jesus even on the very bad days.
