Conni's New Glasses

On Valentine's Day, at Conni's eye appointment, they told us Conni needed glasses.  I was really struggling with the concept, and Conni was a little nervous too.  I told her she could choose any color frames and she chose purple.  It took a week for her glasses to be made.  Conni was very excited to go pick them up.  (Sorry the pics are kinda blurry - I was trying to hurry!)

First time wearing them

Getting instructions from the tech
(This is Conni's "super excited" face)

I told Conni that after we finished getting her glasses fitted we could go get her Penguin some glasses too.  We found the perfect pink pair.

Then of course we needed to go show Grandma and Grandpa her glasses.  She had to test to make sure they still worked while she was swinging.  She also hung upside down from the tricky bars.  I was pleased to see her glasses didn't move around at all!

Conni is adjusting just fine to wearing her glasses.  She isn't have any irritation on her ears or the bridge of her nose, so they are a great fit.  Today is her first time wearing them to school and she is excited to show all her friends.  She's growing up!

Random Pics

Here are a couple of cute pictures from the last week.  Enjoy!

My sweet valentines from my sweetie

Conni visited me at work yesterday and played with my co-worker's dog.
She had fun drawing a picture of Fergy.

Teriyaki Chicken Salad

Our newest favorite recipe is Teriyaki Chicken Salad.  Super easy - great for leftovers - and very yummy!

Teriyaki Chicken Salad

4 chicken breasts
2 cups teriyaki sauce
1 cup mayonnaise
1/4 cup slivered almonds
1/4 tsp. garlic powder
salt to taste

Cook chicken breasts in teriyaki sauce in crock pot until tender.  Let chicken cool then shred.  Add mayonnaise, almonds, garlic powder and salt.  Stir and refrigerate at least 2 hours.  Serve on croissants, bread, crackers, or with salad.

A Happy, Holy Woman

We had our Stake Relief Meeting this last Friday night.  Our topic was Becoming a Happy, Holy Woman.  Our speakers referenced a book by Wendy Watson Nelson titled, "What Would a Holy Woman Do?" I've read at this book before, because our ward did a Relief Society night on this same topic a couple of years ago.  Its a really good topic though.  Its good to have a reminder again.

There were a couple of things that really jumped out at me through the night that I thought I would share.  Some I've heard lots of times, some I heard new that night.

One of the biggest things was that we are not expected to be happy 100% of the time.  I tend to beat myself up sometimes after these meetings that I'm not "that perfect woman".  I love that we are still expected to live life and that means experiencing a full range of emotions and feelings.

I struggle a lot with judging others.  Its something I recognize in myself but don't always do a good job controlling.  I liked the analogy that was shared.  We are all on different rungs of the same ladder, leading home to heaven.  We can't all be on the same rung at the same time, or there wouldn't be room for us.

Finally, they challenged us to start each day with this thought: "How can I be a holy woman today?"  I've been trying to do that the last few days and I can tell a small difference.  When I'm getting frustrated with my family the thought comes to mind and it helps me take that extra moment to compose myself and speak in a nicer tone or change what I say.  I'm thinking a little more before making snarky or critical comments.  I know that I will need to keep being reminded, but I am enjoying the peace that this process is bringing to my life.  How will you try to be a holy woman (or man) today?
