maybe i'm a nurse practitioner

I went to 7 1/2 yrs of school and training to become a family nurse practitioner but some (my husband) would say you'd never know it. Sunday I took Nixon to church for the first time and felt a lump on the back of his neck. Of course I began panicking. When I got home from church I felt one on the other side of his head so I knew it was his lymph nodes. Still, when it comes to my children I can't think rationally so I began picturing little tumors all throughout his body. I called my brother to get his opinion. He told me not to worry about it, but I asked him for a total body scan to make sure there weren't tumors that I couldn't feel. He said no. So on Monday I called to doctor, packed up the two kids (during Logan's nap, ugh) paid my copay, just to hear the doctor say everything was ok. Kyle says we should get our money back for all the school I went to! It's rough being a mom worrying about your kids. Here's a sneak peak at the pictures my friend Sarah took of the boys.

I've had him for a month!

Today has been a month with Nixon.....we love him! I think I have won the paci battle, practice makes perfect.
I'm still working on getting these two to get along.

Bath time

I was starting to think that Nixon was looking a little more like Logan did as an infant until I saw these two pictures taken at about the same age.

3 weeks

Nixon had a Dr.'s appointment this week. He weighs 10lbs 11 oz and is 22 inches long. The doctor suggested that I only feed him on one side because he gained more weight than normal. I have to confess that I still feed on both sides because I like fat babies (I doubt Dr. Chang is reading my blog so I won't get in trouble). Everything checked out ok, except he has a gnarly diaper rash that I'm having to give him special baths three times a day for, along with antibiotic oint.

A few things I'm learning about my boy:

-He likes to sleep next to his mom. I don't plan on him sleeping with me, just somehow in my half awake state in the middle of the night he ends up next to me on my pillow. I know it is a bad habit, but I don't care because babies grow up too quickly.

-He is a little piggy and usually eats more than his tiny belly can handle resulting in lots of throw up which is somewhat amusing when it is all over his dad.

-He giggles randomly throughout the day. I wonder what a 3 week old has to giggle about? I'm guessing he's thinking about my reaction everytime he pees on me.

-He hates getting a bath, although I think he is getting used to them since he is getting three a day.

-He's not sure about his brother who loves to kiss him, but even more than that loves to hit him. I keep warning Logan that there is a possibility Nixon will be bigger than him, so watch out!

swings

I don't know if anyone else has this problem, but everyday between 4 until dinner time, is a little rough. Nixon wants to be held, Logan wants to be entertained, dinner needs to be prepared, and I am getting a little worn out by that time of the day. Both of the boys get put in swings and hang out for a little bit to keep me sane! Love the swings!

Paci please

Logan was attached to his pacifier from day 1 (I love how a newborn pacifier looks huge on him)
Today, he can't get enough pacis and would hold as many as he can getThis new little stinker makes horrible faces, choking sounds, and spits them out constantly
Logan thinks he's foolish
I plan/hope to win this Paci battle with Nixon.

My two week old

He's two weeks old today!

I still don't think he looks much like me, he's only 1/4 Korean but I don't see much of it in him. Kyle thinks he looks just like Logan, I think that people are going to question whether Logan and him are from different dads! He is however, exactly the same as Logan was when it comes to peeing on me. Nearly every diaper change he gets me and soaks himself. It's pretty annoying so if anyone has any tips let me know. I've tried pee pee tee pees, diaper rags, washcloths....everything, but he becomes a sprinkler everytime. He's a pretty good baby sleeping the majority of the time, except at 11:00pm when I'm ready to go to bed and he's ready to play. My pediatrician told me not to put him on a schedule yet, but I'm ready to break him of that habit. Other than that, he is a pretty content, happy baby except when he's hungry, needs to burp, or has a dirty diaper.

And for any of you who are curious about my C-section recovery......it has been pretty great. I was scared/nervous to have a c-section, but have found that it is much easier to recover from this section than it was with Logan's V-birth. Now I just have to decide if I want to try for a VBAC with the next one (I'm not sure why I'm even thinking about having another one yet).

Smile

Logan smiles for every picture now. I took the kids across the street to the park so Logan could run around and dig in the baseball fields.

I know he doesn't match, but the shirt underneath his jacket does:)

I survived

My first day alone with these two! Everything went pretty smoothly (although I think Logan was pretty bored). Still, I was very happy when Kyle came home to help out.

It's good to be home

I tried to leave the hospital on Monday but both Nixon's pediatrician and my OB said NO, so yesterday was our lucky day! I'm happy to be home.....although now that I think about it having nurses take care of you day and night is pretty nice. I survived my first night home thanks to the kind members of my ward, a helpful husband, a toddler who is pretty well behaved, and a newborn who....well woke up every two hours, but I didn't expect much better. Here are just a few more pictures from the past few days.
Day 1: First visitors
Day 2: Big bro helping mom go for a little walkTwo out of three of my favorite guysDay 3: Nixon's comforting his mom who is getting staples removedsafe at homeLogan seems to really like him, but I'm not turning my back on him anytime soon.
