Hello happy crafters! At least I hope you are happy since that is the theme of the new F
rilly and Funkie challenge kicking off today. Our newest DT member
Georgie Connelly is our hostess and she is happily celebrating being on our design team with a challenge theme called Happy Happy HAPPY! She wants you to create a vintage or shabby project that makes you happy, uses a supply or technique that makes you happy or depicts something that makes you happy. Whatever you do, just be sure it makes you HAPPY :)
This is basically an anything goes type of challenge because doesn't all crafting make us happy? It makes me happy to sit at my craft table and mess around, especially on those rare occasions that I don't have a theme or a product that I have to use. So for my Frilly piece this week, I decided to play around with a design for the
May Tim Holtz tag challenge. That makes me happy since I rarely have time to play along.
I jumped over to Mr. Tim's blog and refreshed my memory on the supplies and techniques he had used this month. I like to use his techniques and similar products but to put my own creative stamp on my entries. Instead of using burlap, I used cork, also from the Textured Surfaces pack and used it to cover one of the jumbo tags from my boutique. Then I mixed a little Shaded Lilac stain into white Wendy Vecchi embossing paste and laid it down over the Gothic stencil. My photo is from the Photo Booth pack and I colored it according to Tim's instructions using Shaded Lilac and Scattered Straw. The pointing finger is a bit of Tim's ephemera and the marriage license was downloaded and printed from the internet.
I just got a bunch of bronze charms with glass cabochons into the shop and found that one was perfect for this piece. It was a little fiddly cutting the heart insert to fit, but I got it on the third try. Then a tiny remnant rub was applied beforeI glued it together using a few drops of Glossy Accents. There is a small hole in the fletching of the arrow where I was able to tie a small scrap of Shaded Lilac dyed seam binding.
Using my new Tiny Tattered Florals die, I cut some white CS and inked it up with Shaded Lavender and Scattered Straw to create my little floral arrangement. The leaves were also cut from white CS and stamped with Bundled Sage using Wendy Vecchi's Reverse Dots background stamp. Of course everything has been edged with Vintage Photo DI.

The tiny tag and the butterfly were stamped with the Love definition stamp from Tim's Love Struck stamp set. They were stamped with Jet Black archival ink and sponged with Vintage Photo to distress them. The XOXO card is from the Elementary card pack and I finished it off by cutting a couple of edging strips from Deco Sheets using the Shape Strips thinlits dies. I will say that I couldn't get the dies to cut through the Deco Sheets and ended up running back over to the boutique last evening to grab a Precision Base Plate from our stock. I hadn't taken one for myself because they have been selling quite briskly but I'm so glad I did. It worked marvelously - pretty amazing actually. After everything was finished, I decided to add the Handwritten Love in sharp black contract. I'm glad I did because it really finishes the entire piece off. I always back up my tags with a nice solid weight chipboard. That way they don't curl or warp. And I also cut an easel backing and glue it on the back so the tag stands alone. It makes a fun piece of artwork to set on your desk, counter or shelf.
Thanks so much for hanging in with this long post. I hope you will stop by
Frilly and Funkie to see what else the design team has to spark your creativity. And I hope you will link up a vintage creation and play along with us for this fun challenge - a perfect opportunity to be a happy crafter!
