Instrumentalists drive me crazy!! I am SO stressed!

4.26.2004

I am so sleepy. So so sleepy... but alas! I have a Music Technology Test tomorrow at 9, an Ear Training Hearing tomorrow at 10:30, and a HUGE conducting thing tomorrow at 11:30. (not to mention a voice lesson at 1 and pop/rock vocal styles at 2, thank goodness my 1:30 piano lesson has been rescheduled!)

The outlook appears extremely gloomy. At this point I can only hope that none of the grades will be fatal... because they will most certainly be abysmal.

Patty Griffin, Shawn Colvin, the Indigo Girls and Little Feat are among the initial acts announced for this year's Nashville Riverstages Festival set for April 30-May 2 in downtown Nashville. Several notable rock acts, including the Strokes and Foo Fighters, will also appear at the outdoor event. Other confirmed acts include Wyclef Jean, Styx, Fuel, deSol, Bone Pony, George Clinton, the Fountains of Wayne, Ween, Jonny Lang and Josh Rouse.

Yeah, I'll be there.

I went to the "Flameworthy Awards" last night (for free..) I guess you could call it another "Belmont Perk." I was in the back section, but in the front row. I have to admit, I'm not really into country, and I didn't really know who some of the people were... but it was cool. I saw sheryl crow, allison krauss, martina mcbride, alan jackson, dolly parton, keith urban, and toby keith, and rascal flatts, all perform. Plus Maya Angelou, that dude from "My Big Fat Greek Wedding," and the head guy from "Queer Eye" all presented. And of course Shania and Reba won some stuff so we saw them. And April noticed the Irish guy from Nashville Star, but I missed that one.

Sigh, I only wish I liked country. I felt a little guilty sitting there absorbing it all, surrounded by people who were really into the whole scene... but I enjoyed it nonetheless. =)

"The only thing that interferes with my learning is my education."

I think I have to agree with Albert on that one. The more I look at it, the more apparent it becomes that the longer I go to school, the more stupid I become. (Case in point, I almost put "stupider") Luckily for me the end is already in sight... although the more I think about it, I'm not sure if that makes me lucky or not seeing as how I have no clue what I am going to do with my life...But then again, Who does? Anyhow... I have decided that the educational system has failed me, and higher education is somewhat of a joke. After all, the skill I use most is procrastination. And I have become a pro at finding the fastest and easiest solution to any problem or circumstance.... Hmmm.. now that I write it out, it doesn't sound THAT bad. Well, what I mean to say is... the more I go to school, the more common sense I lose! I also find myself struggling with simple things such as writing, using proper grammer, spelling and reading simple words. I won't even tell you how my mathematical skills have plummeted (that is, if I ever had any to begin with).

BAH! I hate school! But I have decided that it doesn't really matter. The most important things I have ever learned, I never learned in school. All education has taught me is how to complicate things. How to ask the unanswerable questions and how to drive myself nuts.

"Education is what remains after one has forgotten everything he learned in school."
Luckily Albert agrees with me.

Random fact of the day: I filled out a preliminary application for the Peace Corps yesterday.

Music of the moment: Polyphonic Spree "The Beginning Stages of.." & The Shins "Chutes Too Narrow"

Movie on my mind: "Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind"

Joy Maxwell, a student who took a semester off to battle melanoma, died April 1, 2004, from complications. She was 20.

Also, Joy's friends are planning a fundraiser in her honor April 24. Funds will be given to a "Relay for Life" team named in her honor.

"A strange melancholy pervades me to which I hesitate to give the grave and beautiful name of sadness. In the past the idea of sadness always appealed to me, now I am almost ashamed of its complete egoism. I had known boredom, regret, and at times remorse, but never sadness. Today something envelops me like a silken web, enervating and soft, which isolates me."
-- Françoise Sagan.
