Three Days of Birthdays...

Yes... After 3 days of dinners and meet-ups with pals, I finally can blog about my 19th birthday...

So here goes....

6th of January 2008:
Kum Fai and Nicholas Soh came over to my place for lunch. Thanks for forgetting my gift Nick... Dinner was at Sakae Sushi with Kenneth joining us...

7th of January 2008:
Time to hang out with some newer pals! Had dinner with Joyce and Victor at his sister's place...
Much thanks goes out to Wendy and her flatmate for dinner and the cake!

8th of January 2008:
More time spent with newer pals! Went for lunch at Tao's Restaurant for a 6 course meal with Joyce, Victor and Laurel... Nice place, good food, and a weird supervisor.... Thanks for the birthday song Laurel....

I would like to take this opportunity to thank several people...

Kum Fai, for being a friend always, and for the dinner at Sakae...

Kenneth, for always giving me support when i really need it, and also for the dinner...

Nicholas Soh, for forgetting to buy my gift....

Xinling, for your extremely bubbly birthday wish every year...

Justin and Ralph, for remembering...

Joyce, for being ever so thoughtful...

Victor, for providing the much needed laughter in our daily lives...

Laurel, for always going out of your way to make things special....

And there you have it.... My 19th Birthday spent with the friends that i'm so blessed to have in my life... A BIG thank you to all of you that have made these days so memorable...

Feeling Happy,
Ivan

The Almighty Smoking Pot

Okay, let me explain what happened today (or rather, yesterday, if you are so picky about the time like I am)... I went to get lunch at the market near school... I took the usual route, passing the temples as my legs carried me to where the glorious food was... This time, something, or rather, someONE made me stop dead in my tracks...

But first, you have to know what the smoking p
ot is... Haha... In front of the Indian temple, there's this altar where some sort of religious incense burns... Devotees would normally gently brush their hands over the smoke for good luck or whatever you want to believe it gives...

So check this out... Today i saw this uncle... At the Almighty Pot... He could have just did what everyone would have done... Brush over the smoke... But why stop there? Uncles of course have to conform to the "Universal Rulebook of Kiasu Uncles" to deserve the title of "Uncle"... So.... He sneakily took out a cheque book... And started dipping it into the smoke! "Please bless my cheque book with more paper... Please please... More paper... Please please..."

Seriously that made my day... If I had a chance to get a go at the Almighty Pot, I would ask for a good life... But it seems that certain people want "more" which is in fact, LESS... To the uncle, I hope at the embarrassment (if you even felt it) was worth it... Otherwise, there's always lottery...

Feeling thankful for my life,
Ivan

The Classmates

Dinner at Joyce's was enjoyable... The butter grill gave me a headache though... Haha... Hope you like your Christmas present Joyce! It didn't come cheap... The fondue was a nice way to end the meal... Also a nice way to find out that Gabriel loves to pee (EVERYWHERE) overseas... Some kind of weird fetish you've got there?

Off to sleep,
Ivan

The Second Bible

Dinner went better than expected, which was, ironically, expected... Wendy was well-spoken and carried herself very well with her enjoyable anecdotes... Her interesting view on youths and religion provided food for thought...

I conclude that Fish 'n' Chips at New York, New York (am i allowed to say this? Please don't send me to jail...) isn't very good at all... It tastes the same at both outlets! Equally powdery... Gross... Stuffed it down my throat and said nothing about it for the rest of the evening...

Hope Victor enjoys the shoes i got him for Christmas... He gave me a Bible... The second one I've received from a friend... Any ulterior motive Victor? I hope not... Anyway, forgive me for being so blunt, but what's with Christians and Bibles as gifts? What is the meaning of it? A simple gesture of thought or a masked motivation for a possible conversion to the faith? Anyone care to shed some light on the issue?

Before the night came to an end we went shopping for Joyce's gift... You would be surprised how hard it is to get a girl a nice gift... If Christmas was this difficult, i can't imagine what a birthday would be!

And seriously, to that special SOMEONE, if YOU can't manage such a big group of friends then i would appreciate you not including me in it... I really wouldn't mind... Save me the time and effort... PLEASE...

Good Night!
Ivan

Two Cups of Tea...

And one crazy night... Yes my blog's dead... School's starting soon... December was... Rainy... And I'm bored...

Dinner tonight will be with "friends"... PLEASE let me get through tonight... I'll even blog about it if I'm really bored...

I'm terrible at buying gifts for girls... Material vs Practical...

Made it...

Yes, I made it to the Finals of the competition... Don't ask me how i did it... I absolutely have no idea...

With this news comes the problem of an accompanist again... Am i going to pay another $160 to hire someone? Will my original accompanist be back in time to learn the piece? And more importantly, what am I going to play? Thinking of Weber's Second Concerto... Will have my work cut out for me...

Persevering,
Ivan
