Ode to Birds
To the bird
of flight,
who travels the earth
with speed in his wings,
that fly
over mountains and
valleys and rivers;
a few of the things
that
you see.
The gracefulness we see in each stroke
of your wing as you
pull forcefully at the
air.
What other creature
has found this power
to lift
and soar through
the sky.
No need of machines
or oil or fuel
to aid in your journey
above.
Only the need
of what
nature
has already given,
which is there
for you
You have been
mimicked
by others, and
envied
by even more.
Still some don’t see
the might that
you carry,
above and beyond
what a mind could
wish.
And there are those,
who would
quickly end the
life
of one so swift.
The grace
you have, the
charm
you carry, is
seen
above all
things.
