THS Mini Drill 2009

My niece Sierra is on Taylorsville High School's Drill Team. Each year they do a "mini drill" camp as a fundraiser. Sierra asked me to sign Alexa up.
They had 2 days of practice to learn a dance and they performed at the football game on Friday night.
{Practice} ~ I think that they played more games than danced but for a 2 hour practice they needed the play time.

They danced at 1/2 time of the THS vs Brighton football game on Friday Aug. 28th. Alexa did great. She smiled the entire time and did all of her moves! She was very proud of herself. My brother took a video and I'll post it later!

{1st day of school cont.}

Alexa had a great first day of school! Greg & I picked her up and she said that she had "so much fun". The only thing that she would tell me that she did was 'DANCE'.

I think we tried to ask her too much right off the bat because she just kept saying "I don't know" in a frustrated tone.

After school was a fun lunch at Wingers then off to Granny's house for the traditional 1st day of school CoOkIeS! Each grand kid starts school on a different day so Granny has been busy making a lot of cookies. Tim picked Pumpkin Chocolate Chip, Alexa picked "cookies with frosting" and Em doesn't start until next week so we'll have to see what she picks!

Of course Granny made purple frosting for Alexa's sugar cookies and they were delish! She is always so thoughtful.
Rather than trying to keep all of Alexa's school papers & artwork in a box and wind up having a million papers and boxes I decided to scan it all and put in into her very own blog called Alexa's Art. The link is on the right. http://alexasart.blogspot.com/

{1st day of Preschool}

It's official, my baby is a big girl!
This morning Alexa woke up to this!

And she was very excited.
She ate her breakfast like a champ (in her HSM bowl, plate & cup), she let me do her hair with out complaint and got dressed very fast. She was absolutely positively ready to go to school.
The entire way there she sang the 'Sid the Science Kid' song: "I love my mom, my mom is cool, but now it's time for having fun at school. YEAH!"
We arrived about 10 min early so we took MORE pictures. It's a good thing she doesn't mind! :)
More to report after I pick her up!!!
And yes, when she gave me a big hug, said "by mommy, I love you" I did get a little choked up.... what a sap!

Meet The Teacher

Alexa & Mrs Wright

Puzzle Time!
Yesterday Alexa & I went to Pre-School to meet her teacher, Mrs. Wright.
We dropped Gav off to Granny so that we could spend some quality time there with out "distractions".
Alexa was not intimidated or scared a bit. She was VERY excited. We got to the open house only 15 min after it started but almost all of the kids in here class were already there. She was able to pick a cubby for her stuff but purple was already taken so she chose red. I was worried that she would get upset about not getting purple but she was okay with it.
We then chatted with the teacher and I completed an All About Me form about Alexa while she played with puzzles. She had a lot of fun and wasn't ready to go when we were done.
She officially starts Pre-School tomorrow and is thrilled! I'm very excited for her and lets face it for me too! :)
I took my cheap little purse camera and it isn't treating me too well anymore. It is only 1 year old and after sending it in once for repair it is just not the same... obviously by the poor pictures. Bummer!

Croup

Saturday night I was so proud. We were all showered, our Sunday clothes ironed and most of us (not me) were in bed at a decent hour so that we could just get up, get dressed and get out the door for our early church meetings. As I was walking back to go to bed I hear what sounded like a dog barking in Alexa's room. Then I heard her wailing and crying. Poor kid had croup. It was bad enough that we needed to take her to urgent care. So at 12:30 am I packed her up and headed out the door.
She got her breathing treatments and then steroids. We were out of there at 2:25 and home by 2:45am.
She is doing MUCH better now but that was a crazy night. And... we didn't make it to church on Sunday morning. She was sick and poor Gav woke up a bit sick too. Greg let me sleep in! :)

Temple Open House

Last weekend we attended the Oquirrh Mtn Temple open house. It was fun.... okay, not so much. Gav was exhausted and ornery and Alexa was impatient. It was really ridiculous that it took so long. Our appt was at 9:50 and it was nearly noon when it was over. We took 3 steps then stopped, 3 steps then stopped. I ended up ducking out early to take Gav to the car to sleep and he was out cold about 2 min after we got in. They should have scheduled less people for each time slot or told us to expect it to be that long so we wouldn't bring our little kids. Instead they advertised strollers. Can you tell I am super annoyed!!!!

What I did see was beautiful. :)

I had my camera but we were too busy tackling kids to take pictures. I got these before any action!

Swimming Fun

As part of our camping adventure, Chris' girlfriend Lynn and her two boys Wyatt & Cade were able to come join the fun too. They live in Houston, TX.
One night we went swimming and had a BBQ at Fred and Judy's in Saratoga. It was a lot of fun!

Capsized!

A few weeks ago we headed up the mountains to go camping again.
We were only planning to go up for a day but ended up having too much fun. Alexa & I ended up sleeping over in Chris' trailer and Greg took Gavy home. He then dropped Gav off at his mom's early the next morning and was back up to our campsite for lunch. That is a lot of driving!
Highlights of the trip....
1. Watching the boys capsize in the boat. Greg was out in the middle of Mirror Lake in his float tube fly-fishing. Jim, Jayden & Corey decided to take the boat out to fish. Chris, Alexa & I stayed on the shore. About 10 feet off the shore Jayden decided he wanted to turn around and face the other way. As he started the boat really started rocking. Corey & Jim both shouted at him to stop and stay where he was "or we'll tip over". Sure enough, that was plenty to get Jayden to start rocking... ON PURPOSE! About 30 seconds later Corey & Jayden were completely under water and Jim was 1/2 way out of the boat trying to save himself. Mirror Lake is pretty big with probably 50 people nearby so it was somewhat noisy. Not after the capsizing. It was SILENT for about 30 seconds until all you could hear was our group CRYING laughing. I nearly peed my pants I was laughing so hard! It was FANTASTIC!
2. Highlight #2 gave me a whopping headache. Sunday morning before Greg came back up, Chris, Jim, Sierra, Alexa & I went 4 wheeling in the Jeep. It was fun for about 30 min then us girls were D-O-N-E!!! But NOOOOO the boys wanted more. 2 hours later we finally headed back to camp with sore necks and headaches. GRRRRRR We got some pretty good video of Alexa getting tossed around. She was in her car seat but it was still crazy. Oh yeah, on that little adventure Alexa learned how to go potty in the outdoors. She was very proud to tell everyone that she "peed on a rock". (Chris has the rocky video on his camera, I'll have to add it later.

Signin' & Scootin

Here is a good video of Gav's scooting! I shot it a few weeks ago and thank goodness I got it. He is walking so much that he isn't scooting quite like he used to.
