Well, it's official. We have hair.

Well because it took so long for Cache to get hair, today I had to take these shots.  Can I really say it?  Yes, he's a mop head!
Long awaited, by Mom and Dad.  We actually brush his hair!

Christmas Morning

Well, Kevin attempted a 'tree fix' as well.  Let's just say, it worked.  This first picture is Cache's stashes.  This was a picture of just Cache's presents, Christmas Eve night.  I counted, 17 to be precise.

Cache opening a tractor.  He was getting pretty delighted to learn there were toys in these things!  After he took every bow off of every present, he actually opened one!

We got him some new Thomas trains that hook together with magnets.  So, no more bringing trains to Mom and Dad to do it.  Brilliant, eh?

Checking out the hook-together action!

Santa brought him a box for his ever growing train collection.  It's like a metal lunch box, less the obvious shape difference.  There are little trains pictured all the way around the sides, here he is discovering that fact...

White Christmas

Christmas Day it blew and blew and blew.  We had 60 mph gusts here all Christmas Eve night, and all day Christmas day.  Along with some snow, rain, and sleet.  We kind of got it all.  Well around nightfall Christmas night the wind stopped, the cold front arrived and the gorgeous snow began.  You know, the kind you look out the window and just say, "How pretty." ?  Well, it didn't stop all night or all day the 26th.  We got a ton, as you can see by the first picture.  It was so pretty.  Kev got the driveway all cleared, (thank you, Dick, for the snowblower!) then we got Cache all bundled up in his snow gear, and Dad took him for a romp around the front yard, then the back.  He had a great time, other than he refuses to wear mittens and so when he falls down in the snow, it's cold!

New Baby-Nursing

So, I am getting really excited about being pregnant again, and cannot believe the difference from the first pregnancy.  First of all, it's a whole other story being pregnant and already having a little one to look after.  Can't sleep whenever you want to, and if you feel like crap, well that's secondary to the needs/wants of your current tike.  It's cool to know I am entering the eighth week of pregnancy, where SO much is going on with the development of the baby.  It's quite miraculous to know that the baby's heart beats in the fifth week of pregnancy!  That means, about fourteen days after you miss your first period, your baby has a heart, that's actually beating!  I love that thought.  If it has a heart beat, then think of all the other things it has!  Nervous system, blood pumping, amazing.

But most of all, I can't help but think about, anticipate, and get excited about-nursing again!  That was the single most pleasurable part of mothering a newborn.  I absolutely loved it and can not wait to nurse another!  I am going to nurse this baby as long as possible, as I did Cache, who self weaned around 21 months.  : (  I was sad when it was truly over.  But that's why God gave me the ability to have more babies, right?  So you can get all those wonderful feelings all over again!  I can not wait!

I found some awesome quotes on the intraweb:

"While breastfeeding may not seem the best choice every parent, it is the best choice for every baby." -Amy Spangler

"It is only in the act of nursing that a woman realizes her motherhood in visible and tangible fashion; it is a joy of every moment." -Honore De Blazac

People need to understand that when they're deciding between breast milk and formula, they're not deciding between Pepsi and Coke...they're choosing between a live, pure substance and a dead substance made with the cheapest oils available." -Chele Marmet

"Formula feeding is longest lasting uncontrolled experiment lacking informed consent in the history of medicine." -Frank Oski, MD, Founder of the journal Contemporary Pediatrics

I thought those were some of the good ones.  I can't wait to nurse again!

The Great Christmas Tree Debacle

Oh, boy, where do I begin?  Our tree has ornaments on the top third only.  Because little hands and paws, can't seem to resist the shiny balls and sparkle-y snow flakes!  Secondly, the stand snapped in to pieces and the tree fell over! I don't know if you can tell, but it's leaning up against the window.  Oh, boy, indeed.  So, yesterday, I went to WalMart and bought a new stand.  Thinking this would just solve all my problems.  Ha!  The hole on the new stand was too big.  So, I put the new "legs" on the old stand and duct taped the crap out of them.  Being, quite pleased with myself, I stood up the tree, told Cache, "Don't touch.", and stood back to admire!
No faster then Cache and I got into the kitchen, did I hear a giant crash and glass balls breaking.  It was awesome.  So then I had to get out the vacuum, and lean the tree back up against the window.  I guess toddlers and Christmas trees don't mix.  Oh, not to mention, cats.
Next year, we're going for a real tree with a sturdy metal stand and in two days this one, with much anticipated satisfaction, is going directly into the garbage can!

The bottom string of lights failed as well, just to 'top' it all off.

My poor attempt at a fix.

Cache in the Snow

Cache thought the crunchy snow sounded neat to walk through, for about one minute.

My Favorite Morning SIght

Yellow Finches.  They are so brilliant and bright and have a cute little tweet.

Black Capped Chickadees love to get the Thistle off the ground.  This guy is something else, I'm not sure what.  But he's pretty!

Christmas Party Part 2

We got Ingrid's kids 'August Rush'. Awesome movie, great for kids.  If you haven't seen it, go rent it, just get the tissue handy.  And all the kids with their noses in their new books.

Kevin, helping Joe read his new book.

Kevin and Cache.

Christmas Party

Last Saturday we went down to my Mom's for the annual Jacob shabang.  Although none of us are Jacob's anymore, except my brother...and Candace, again, recently!  Anyhow, we had dinner, opened presents, and and tried to visit amongst the little kid chaos.  Cache was very clingy and whiny for the first half hour or so, but then, I guess he realized Mom and Dad were hanging around, so he played with the other kids, Grandma's toys, and even ate some dinner and treats.  I don't think he wanted to leave!  Dad was another story, you know, the BYU game was on, after all!

Julia, sleeping in my arms.

Jess and baby Eliza, and my Mom's beautiful tree.

Joe and James with their new books from Grandma.

Rowen and Cache were dressed identically.  Here they are playing on the stairs.  Can you tell who is who?

Oh, yes, Cache is always the one getting down as low as possible to check out how those wheels turn!

Care Bear

When I was little we all had Care Bears.  The originals.  Mine was Bedtime Bear.  Well Cache has adopted him.   He carries him around the house, loving him, squeezing him and sleeping with him.  He looks at his face, squeezes his neck, squints his eyes, and goes, "Ohhh, hoo, hoo!"

The Living Planet Aquarium

A couple of weeks ago Grandma and Grandpa Horsburgh were visiting and Cache wanted to take Grandma to the Aquarium.  This is what we saw...

I wanna lick the beater!

Licking the beater in my family was quite the treat, since there's two beaters and there were five of us.  So if you were of the lucky first two to shout it out, you got the to lick the beater.  This was sugar cookie batter, the first of many beaters to come...

Yesterday's Sunrise

This is the view of the sunrise over the Wasatch from our back porch. Not a bad view, eh?

Rain Boots

Today Cache kept tugging at his pants and whining.  I couldn't figure out why.  They were even soft, fleece, comfy pants, so who knows?  So, I took them off.  Then, he wanted to wear his rain boots, and there you have it...

I have on pants, I swear!

Potty Training

So, Cache and I have been getting him used to sitting on the potty chair.  We try every night before bath time.  I tell him, "Try really hard to make pee pee in the potty."  And this is what he does....

Then, I ask him, "Did you make pee pee?! Is there pee pee in there?"  And he checks...

Candy Canes!

The other day I busted out all the Christmas stuff.  Cache discovered candy canes for the first time.  He thinks they're all right!

I am learning how to blog, so please excuse me while I hone my skills.  Read the Snowbird post, then you'll understand the picture.  Have a great Monday!

Weekend at Snowbird

We stayed at Snowbird Saturday night.  It was pretty fun.  We got up there around noon on Saturday.  We just hung around in the room and at about four we decided to take Cache to the hot tub.  We were kicking ourselves for not bringing our camera, so forgive the no pictures post!  Cache wore Kevin's giant purple beanie.  He looked so stinkin' cute.  He loved the hot tub!  It was around 5 or 10 degrees so we tried to keep his shoulders warm.  He figured out that if he sat on the second step down, the water came all the way up to his chin, and he was warm.  He had a great time, and we had a great time marveling at our cute little boy.  The next morning we got up early and Kevin headed to the tram line.  He was fourth in line.  On his first run, he lost his iPhone!  It jumped out of his pocket on the Cirque Traverse! (At the very top!)  So, after one run he came back to the room, pretty bummed out.  Cache and I already had cabin fever and I was all packed up and ready to go.  Kevin was pretty mad about his phone, so we decided to head home.  On the way down the canyon I got a call.  It was Kevin's phone calling me!  A girl had found his phone on the mountain!  It worked fine, and we were pretty amazed.  So, when we got home, Kevin loaded up his truck to head back up and meet the gal that had his phone.  It all turned out to be a blessing in disguise.  At 12:30 an avalanche came down, inbounds, on High Baldy.  An area Kevin often visits.  One girl got buried for over an hour.  The probe line of people was quite a sight to see on the news last night.  Thankfully they DID find her.  Unfortunately, she died at the hospital at 5 o'clock last night.  We are pretty sad today.  It hits pretty close to home when it happens on your home mountain, inbounds, and your friends were the searchers.  Our prayers are with her family.
