More Necessities

When you've got 20 plus acres of pasture, a finishing mower won't cut it. (no pun intended).

Two years ago, when our dirt work was started, we were without anything to keep the land maintained.  Unfortunately, when money doesn't grow on trees, you have to do the best you can.  Well, we couldn't do anything....until yesterday.

After searching the country and web for "the" tractor, we couldn't find what we needed and wanted in a used one.  Tractors last forever, and people don't just get rid of them, especially if they are in good condition to do the job.  They are either old, broke down, and not worthy of the price, or used and in condition with a heavy price tag.  So, comparing apples to apples, and apples to oranges, Erik made his selection.  We are now the owners of a brand new Kubota with bush-hog and front end loader.

Erik tried it out yesterday, and well, I'll just say, it will definitely do the job.  He is already on his way to making the pasture and pond look great again.

Mills did not know we were getting it, so he was surprised to see it as soon as he woke up from his nap.  It was just being delivered.

Someone was excited about "his" new tractor....

Of course he had to take the first ride!

Then, Erik took off to start his BIG job.

Cedar Hill Farm 2013

This year's trip to Cedar Hill Farm, last Friday, was as fun as always.  Erik, Nana, Mills, and Myself headed down to Hernando early to start a fun filled day.  It is never a disappointment, and this year they added a lot of new things.

Before heading to the chicken show, and petting zoo, Mills stopped to see "How tall this fall" he was.

We headed to the petting zoo and chicken show first.  This year, they even had turkeys.

Jacob, the miniature horse thought that Erik's arm tasted...well, quite wonderful.

Waiting on the pig races to start

CHF built a new pony ride stable this year for Mills to enjoy one of his favorite things.

Of course, Mills had to stick his head in the chicken coop.  This is no surprise.

Daddy and Mills waiting on the tractor ride back to the pumpkin patch

We stopped for a little playtime on the pirate ship and headed over for pumpkin picking.

CHF also added a zip-line this year  Mills, our little daredevil had to try it out...over and over again.

Before heading home, Mills made his final pumpkin/gourd selections.

I have to laugh at this picture.  He was oblivious to anything going on around him.  It looks like he's relaxing, reading the Sunday paper, while Nana pulls him and his loot in the cart.

Until next year...Farewell, Cedar Hill Farm.

If you've never visited this place, we highly recommend it.  It is almost an all day affair, so plan ahead and enjoy.   Here's the link:

Beauty

I just had to share this picture that Erik took this afternoon while playing outside with Wesley and Mills.
The pasture bottom was covered in low lying fog.  Just beautiful!

National Run Day

TCA celebrated/participated in National Run Day this morning.  The goal of this day is to encourage everyone to get 30 minutes of exercise, five times a week. Our preschoolers were invited to participate and this mama got her workout by keeping up with them.

On their way out, what do they spy?  A water puddle.  Only boys!

The kids watch a demonstration on what they are to do.  There were physical activity stations set up all around the soccer field.

Warm up time!

Jumping jacks

Mills and Miss Andi Katherine decided to race to the next station.

 Mountain Climbers

Hula hoop hopscotch

Whew!  They're done!

Lightning Bugs

They're not "fireflies" here, folks.  They're "lightning bugs."

A childhood memory and pastime.  A bunch a boys, me,( the only girl), a few mason jars who would meet at the basketball goal by the security light and catch lightning bugs.  I think we were pros.  Another thing I have missed about living out here.

Mills, he'll be a pro too, ya know?  We started our first lesson tonight.  Mills just happened to receive an awesome bug net and "bug motel" for his birthday, thanks to his friends Sam Harris and Faith, and The Freckled Frog

Erik and I, along with "Wessie" and Mills caught about six in ten minutes or so.  There were not as many out tonight as usual, but we did our best.

Yes, they went to bed with him, and I am "trusting" that they will still be in their "room" in the morning.  Yeah.  Right.  What was I thinking?

Fire Prevention Day

Pre K3 got a visit from Sparky and a few of the Covington firefighters today at school.  Erik and I were able to go and sit with Mills while they taught the children about fire safety.  I get really excited when we get invited to join Mills at school.  Erik and I both have semi-flexible schedules, to an extent, and so far, we've been able join him.
