Possible locations for wedding photoshoot

This is a good time to type using my new Samsung GS3, might as well pen a few thoughts.

Where in Singapore is a good place for wedding photoshoot?

Criteria would be scenic, accessible and free, if possible.

Perhaps the following will be considered.

1. Raffles Marina (next to 2nd causeway).
It offers wonderful sunset plus a lighthouse.

2. Gardens by the bay.
Admission is partly free.

3. Singapore Botanic Gardens

4. Changi boardwalk

5. Hortpark

6. Punggol waterfront

7. Yishun Dam

8. Pasir Ris beach

9. Sentosa

10. The Helix bridge
(near Marina Bay Sands)

There you have it, located in North, South, East and West.

To break a fall

There was nobody around to help me up. I was entirely on my own.

There I sat, at the staircase at an awkward angle. There was discomfort, for sure.

It is kind of amazing that I could still stay calm and think of how to break the fall, when everything happened in a split second.

I did not use my palm to support my body, neither did I support my body using my right arm against the floor. Both actions would have lead to serious consequences, and I shudder at the thought of my right arm in cast or even a sprained wrist.

To break the fall, I swung the full body weight to my right. I decided to land on the softest part of my body—my buttocks, so as to cushion myself against the cold, hard staircase. I know very well that if I had leaned forward, I would end up at the bottom of the staircase, rolled down and hit my head along the way.

Next,

Falling down was easy.

Picking myself up was harder.

In pain, shocked and frightened, I had to learn to pick myself up. Still dazed, I slowly sat up, made sure that I could stand, and check for broken bones. Not too bad, a toenail was broken. But hey! I still can walk. No broken bones too.

Visibly frightened, I limped and continued my way. Putting on a brave front for the rest of the day and to continue to work was just as hard.

Next,

The comforting words of good friends flowed in for the rest of the day. I felt better knowing that they care for me. The advice given to me to apply first aid was useful. It was only a few hours later upon reaching home then I started to cry. I was in tears. That was because I was still recovering from a state of shock.

Finally,

I take care of myself very well and am hardly clumsy.

This will probably be the last time I write about getting myself hurt. (Smile)

Helloo, my name is...

A name, be it given to pet pooches or babies, should have unique meanings to their parents or owners. A name, by any other name, given to make oneself famous in showbiz, should generate some meanings too. I am not sure what goes into the minds of these people as they name themselves.

A Taiwan actor named himself Alien.

A Hong Kong actor named himself Noodle.

A Singaporean actor named himself IX.

A comic character was named Gargamel by his creator.

And Dopey, Greedy, Clumpsy... were born and introduced into our lives.

I would not want to name my offsprings Oxford or Yale, would you?

Gourmet Popcorn from USA

For a limited time, "spicy cheese popcorn" is on the list.

For me, I like the perfect combination of salted and sweet popcorn, hence bought the "Chicago Mix".

Ask the staff for sample ^__^

The cheery staff who served me took out a huge spatula and scooped cheese popcorn, followed by caramel popcorn into a paper bag.

Oh boy, these popcorns are made on the spot. Fresh! Crunchy! Gone in 60 seconds.

I would like to try the other version that comes with nuts: pecans/almonds.

Prices for a small bag starts from $4.00 - $10.00, depends on flavours.

Medium size bags just top up about $3.00.

Gallon sizes are available, yup, gallons, those huge tin cans that contains "ICI paint".

Haha, thats cost more than $20.00, enough to feed a dozen people.

Heard that the other outlet at Sentosa is doing very well.

As for this outlet at Citylink mall, expect a queue on weekends. But don't worry,

the queue clears very fast.

I have not eaten popcorn for the last 10 years.
Remember popcorn sold at cinemas? Well, I don't like because a tiny part of my popcorn is buttered, whereas a huge part remains plain, yucks!!

Simply put it that there is no consistency, no QC. Eating plain popcorn is no fun, and sometimes, many little unpoped corns can be found in the bag.

Sigh, finally, a heaven send. Garrett Popcorn from USA

shall remain my favourite for the next few months.

For the clever folks at Facebook Inc,
I have not been able to access parts of the functions of the mobile version.

(1) "newsfeed" becomes inaccessible.

(2) "Alert: this function is for employess only" prompt pops out whenever I try to log in.

Oh gosh, perhaps, I should thank you. I survived this long weekend without having to "kaypoh", and without having to try to peak into my friends' live news feed.

Then again, I hate you, because I missed many good bargains opportunities that happened since Friday morning (22 April 2011).

To the dear folks at Facebook Inc, Whatever happened to the updates apps? When are they going to appear?

Hungry in my dreams

This is probably the worst dream I have for April 2011. I cannot believe that I am so unlucky in my dream, so disguted, so depressed, okay, depressed is too strong a word to use, perhaps the feeling of hunger lingers till today.....

In my dream, I was with a group of "customers". We were queuing patiently for our turn at a restaurant that serves splendid International buffet.

As I waited in queue for my turn, I could see succulent prawns, juicy oysters, mussels, scallop, assorted sushi, salmon sashimi.....the list goes on. The thought of feasting on delicious food gets me excited ^__^ . Yeah.

After standing in the line for quite sometime, finally, the chap in front of me has taken his food.

Now, it is my turn.

I am smiling! Hey, who wouldn't?

I bend down to take an empty plate. As I lifted the food thong to get some prawns.....to my horror....I suddenly woke up. I did not even get to lift up any prawn.

All my dream vanished into thin air.

Unlucky me, hor?
Beh Tahan...

难得糊涂 (Blur for once)

In my attempt to eat more fruits, I decided to eat something rich in antioxidants.

I opened the fridge and take out a box of blueberries, not too much, at just 125gms, I should be able to finish eating them today.

I happily took out a spoon and scooped these tiny berries into my mouth. Juicy, yum yum. Good choice. The music played in my bedroom, and very soon, I was lulled to sleep.

By then, I have finished eating almost every berry. I looked at the cover of the box.

Instructions reads: "Rinse before use."

I stopped eating immediately.

It is too late....to wash these berries....Urrggghhh !

Trying to be more healthy

This should be worth rejoicing, afterall, any dentist or doctor would gladly approve my actions.
Ta-da, to stay healthy, I've successfully avoided eating ice-cream, yes, ice cream for the past four months.

Oh my, life without ice cream is a misery, and I shall limit my intake of sweet stuff. Ice cream is one of them.

And.... I've stayed away from alcohol. I'm not a drunk, I drink when I'm feeling calm and happy, but have since stopped my alcohol intake.
Occassionally will still indulge in "rum n raisin" chocolates, "brandy" chocolates, but, I guess should be alright. No big deal.
Yeah :)

Online purchases Part 2

The ultimate whitening serum that won the "Best whitening serum in 2010" has been delivered to me. Limited stock sells out fast. Luckily, Best Buy World replenishes stock regularly. I bought this tube at S$115.00. A check at department stores sell the item at S$159.00. That is about 30% savings! Nice... ...

Best Buy World uses a point system, which translates into cost savings. A facial cleanser that costs S$39.00 earns me 39 points. 100 points equates S$1.00, which can be used immediately to offset purchases.

Free delivery to local addresses with minimum S$50 purchase. Delivery takes 1-2 working days. Major credit cards accepted.
This is one website I would frequent for abundant purchases of trial size products, before deciding if full size products are sutiable. Good choice.

Online purchases Part 1

Finally,

my online purchase has arrived :)

My purchase was dispatched from Hong Kong and delivered by airmail to me.

Online purchases are getting popular. Huge savings and discounts, as high as 30% off retail price. I feel good not having to pay additional, which translates into paying for the saleswoman's salary.

Visit online stores, only the reputable ones that sell authentic products.

This is my first visit to Strawberry Net.

Free shipping worldwide.

1st time customers enjoy fabulous free gifts: choose from lipsticks, eyeshadows, blusher, etc. To celebrate International's Women's Day, I received an additional Calvin Klein lipstick. Yaaaay !

Subsequent online purchases enjoy up to 10% discount.

Delivery takes 4-6 days. Delivered through registered mail.

Payment by major credit cards.

I bought my Shu Uemura Cleansing oil at a price saving of up to 30%. WoW. Not a bad deal.

Keep on striking 4D

This time, it is 2280. I placed bet on my birthdate number using "ibet" version.
Aha, stike 4D again. Being lucky.
Told you all I would share my wealth. Did you place bet using my birthdate number? It is not the first time this year that I strike. :D
I promise not to turn into a gambler.

2 X lucky

This time, I am very lucky with my birthdate number. Imagine my surprise when I strike 4D twice on the same day. 0822 and 8202 . I placed bet using the "ibet" version. How often do you strike 4D two times on the same day?

:)

Late night (Taiwanese) supper

famous all-beef noodles

highly recommended braised pork rice - shiok!

pork floss with brinjal

salt-pepper chicken

Probably the best place to savour cheap Taiwanese food.
I choose the 'Set menu' ($12.40), inclusive of a bowl of beef noodles, one side, and a bubble tea.
Choose from all-beef noodles, or beef with brisket. The broth is rich and good, with strong herbs flavour.
Pity, the salt pepper chicken was extremely salty and dry, it spoilt my tastebuds.
Especially like the porkfloss brinjal, very tasty.
Braised pork rice was highly recommended. It sauce is DAMN good. Fatty pork, but good texture, sigh, once in a while eat fatty food won't hurt my health. :)

I (heart) creamy salmon sashimi

Probably the best cut of a salmon (the belly?)

Choose a good mix of fats (white portion) and fresh salmon.

Tastes creamy, rich in Omega 3 fatty-acid , (Oooooh!!)

Good for the heart,

Best for health,

That's the way to enjoy fresh salmon sashimi. ^_^

Of Names & Games

I hardly know how to pronounce English names in this era. These days, you would probably come across names with an “affix” of “Z” or “N” to the names, as seen in the case of “Jazmyn” (instead of Jasmine).

The Chinese often believe that if a baby lack certain natural elements at the time of birth, hence, the additional Chinese strokes (造字) to the name. On that note, how did English names of this era come about?

Some names are no doubt, interesting. Yours truly, is named after a magazine afterall, hee.

Some names are related to the months of the years, or well known English Literature characters. Others, simply remind you of food. Celebrities, too, are famous for naming their offsprings unique names.

Pehaps, this controversial naming exercise could be related to how the planets are named. We humans have been living well with the names of “your anus”, I beg your pardon, “Uranus”, so what’s the big deal with bizzare English names in this modern era? Hahaha.

However, there is one particular name which I cannot comprehend. That would be:

Rob.
I mean, Rob who?
Rob Thomas

Below are some of the names that I come across, in alphabetical order.

Apple
Clovis
Denzil
Homer
Jazmyn
Jayven
Jewel
June
May
Maximus
Prince Jr
Romeo
Seal
Silver
Summer
Zara
Zeus
Zidane

If ideas run out, here are some humble suggestions to name your offspring, in bizarre manner, of course.

From children’s favourite show range: Elmo, Glover, and perhaps, for baby boys:
Big Bird.

From the vegetable family range: Broccoli, Mustard, Kai Lan.

From the publisher range: FHM, Torque, Zenith.

From the fruits family range: Banana, Kiwi.

From the body parts family range: Iris, Risorius (skeletal muscle).

From the luxury brands range: Prada, Miu Miu.

To Tampopo, for Matcha Chiffon Cake

(Matcha Chiffon Cake)

I discovered that looking beneath that greeny-slimy stuff, lies a treasure: moist chiffon cake with robust taste of greentea, plus Azuki beans and delicious cream, topped with strawberry slices....the cake simply melts in the mouth, ooohh.

Within 30 minutes, the entire cake was sold out.

The trick is to order the cake at the beginning of the meal and instruct the waiter to serve it at the end of the meal. Easy, just like a piece of cake.

I like my piece of cake: Matcha Chiffon cake (~$7.00)

A tasty bowl of "piggy"

( Special Katsu Don)

The special Katsu Don (~$15.00) is the best seller here (^o^)

An oozing egg yolk sits pretty on top of white fluffy rice.
The pork is oh-so-tasty. It is very well marinated. Not hard, not chewy
The don was a huge portion. Pay additional for miso soup.
No other words can describe this meal.

Fried Chicken from ChicKing

(left: spicy; middle: original)

I do not eat at KFC these days.

Once I have tasted fried chicken from ChicKing, eating fried chicken will never be the same again.

ChicKing, all the way from Dubai, opens the first branch here at Marina Link.

Bite into succulent drumsticks, juicy thighs, you get to choose the chicken parts just like you would do at KFC. The french fries here is very good, they remain crispy even after 30 minutes. The way the chicken is specially marinated and deep fried ensures the meat to be juicy and finger-licking good. Choice of spicy or original. I ordered the 2pc meal ($6.00~$7.00, inclusive of two sides, standard drink).

When I saw the chicken, shrivered and shrunken, I thought: "What the H...?" However, after biting into the chicken meat, I smiled, looking satisfied.

I also ordered the crispy chicken strips. These chicken-breast meat were tough and rather disappointing. Better stick to the 2 pc meal.

The coleslaw and mashed potatoes, as I found out, have a weird taste which I dislike. I ended up trading both sides for french fries instead.

After forgiving the "blur" cashiers, this fast food restaurant is worth a return visit.

And I did. Thrice.

Move aside, Colonel, your chicken parts are just too oily and "slicky", definitely no match for ChicKing.

Looking back - Chinese Pop 2000-2010

From the Y2K millienium bug scare till now, a whopping 10 years have passed.
2011 marks not only a new start to a new decade, but also signifies an end to a decade of wonderful Chinese pop songs. Will these songs be remembered another 10 years down the road?
Not posting English songs this time, as previously my blog has quite a fair bit of blogs dedicated to them.

Healthy as can be

Nails
We usually don't pay much attention to our fingernails, but they can give vital clues to general health.

Yellow nails are suggestive of respiratory disease, spoon-like nails curving outwards can mean iron deficiency anaemia, and lines going across the nails may be a symptom of diabetes.

Go to the doctor if there's any major change in the look or feel of your fingernails. Firm, pink nails, on the other hand, can be evidence of a decent general level of health.

Toilet time
Stools can speak volumes about overall health.

It is about consistency and colour.

A good stool is torpedo shaped, soft and easy to pass. Colour can depend on what you've eaten, but it shouldn't generally be grey, very pale, too dark or bright red. A mid-brown stool, passed easily and regularly without any sudden change in bowel habits is one sign of decent digestive health.

Urine
If you have pale yellow pee, you are drinking enough fluids and - in the absence of other symptoms - probably don't have any urinary tract infections.

A good colour is also a sign that your liver is working efficiently. Don't worry if you drink a lot of water and you're urine turns almost clear - apart from the inconvenience of all those trips to the toilet, that's no problem.

A darker yellow probably just means you've been drinking less - this colour is common especially when you pee after you wake up in the morning - drink more to avoid the symptoms of dehydration.

Dark or red-tinged urine - or pee with a sweet or strange odour - can be a symptom of health problems.

Drinking water
Drink a cup of water (100ml) every 2 hours is sufficient. It helps to flush out toxins. Drink two cups of water (200ml) every 2 hours if you are actively involved in outdoor sports or if you work in air-conditioned room most of the day.

A misconception about drinking lots of water is that we tend to gulp down too much, think 500ml of water all at one go. This method is wrong, and it can lead to too much water in the body, as a result, water-drunkardness occurs. This dilutes the blood and can cause serious health problems.

Shiny Healthy Hair
A fine and luscious head of shiny hair is a sign that good things are happening in your body. In particular, healthy hair can be a sign of a healthy diet.

Dull, dry and brittle hair can be caused by a lack or protein, vitamin E or essential fatty acids. Hair so healthy women want to run their fingers through it may be evidence that you're absorbing plenty of body-friendly nutrients.

In Whatever “Way”

I call it the generation gap between me and youngsters.
I loathe the way some terms are used these days.

It gives the reader the impression that the sentences are said out of convenience.
It is insincere, too casual, and to me, improper use of connectors.
I can understand that if the sentences are said in a casual context, for instance, between friends but other than casual friends, is it improper?

Some overheard dialogues are:
"Tomorrow, I have piano lessons followed by Math tution, anyway, Happy Teachers’ Day."

Adults, not youngsters say the same thing.

"I will be in a meeting later… ...should end by 6pm, by the way, today is our 100th days of courtship, happy 100th day anniversary."

"My new boss is very pretty, by the way, happy birthday to you."

You would not catch me using by the way or anyway, in whatever way.

A letter to all Men

Boy, you play many varied roles. Son, brother, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather....

For the best relationship with woman ( yes!! the one you love), I suggest you read the following with care:

1. Listen. And I mean quiet please, just listen to us when we talk to you.

2. Support our dreams, and speak up when they turn out to be too silly.

3. Be the FIRST to apologise, even if it is not your fault.

4. Give us the space that we need, hey, we need private time to ourselves, you know.

5. Don't be put off by role reversal, occasssionally, we enjoy the chase while you get all the pamperings.

6. Wear that scent that we adore.

7. Deep down, we are damsels in distress, be our heroes, enough said.

Perhaps, I should change the title of this post to " Seven deadly sins".

Yuzu Pear tea (green tea)

A clever way to eat fruits and cakes and can still claim "It is healthy food".
Like the fruit cakes and fruit tarts from this outlet.
Recently, fell in love with the tea.
Various green tea are available, and if you prefer, red tea as well.

YUZU PEAR TEA (green tea)
I like it for it is
soothing
calming
refreshing
tasty
smells really nice (yaaay!)

A slice of the fruit tart and an individual pot of tea (your choice) sells at
$9.80.

Normal price for a nice pot of tea costs from $6.80 while a slice of
fruit tart/fruit cake costs $5.80 ~ $7.80.

I regret that I did not take photos of the pot of tea.

We ordered a birthday cake from Awfully Chocolate after hearing much publicity.
It was a moist, rich, dark chocolate cake, with fudge sandwiched between spongy chocolate cake. Not too sweet, does not stick to the teeth and best of all, eaten when chilled. Simply too good.
Word of caution.
It is 'heaty' !
At least, for me, it is heaty, because the next day, I 'kena' constipation.

The place for great Tonkatsu

Twin Special Set 46.00

The twin special set is sufficient for 2 person.
My meal comes with pork, shrimps, asparagus and lean meat, crab with cheese. Simply delicious. The cabbage goes very well with the fried items. The dressing (1. creamy sesame 2. mandarin orange peel) compliments the freshness of the cabbage. I enjoyed it so much that throughout my meal, I asked the cabbage to be refilled thrice. The food items are breaded and deepfried and taste crunchy. The oil used to fry the food does not taste "recycled", if you know what I mean. It is so tasty!

Cabbage - simply fresh and crunchy

All set meals come with unlimited refill of miso soup, rice, cabbage, green tea. Complimentary green tea icecream. Service is excellent.
