He's fierce. He's feisty. He looks cute in green. He's my 'Camo Kid'. But mostly, he's my sweet boy.
His favorite color just happens to be GREEN. Today just happened to be his last day of first grade, he just happened to get his face painted at school, and this week's "Thematic" just happened to be..... you guessed it!
Head over to Written Inc. where you will find more exciting photographic interpretations of this week's theme: GREEN!

Thunder and lightening storms made for some really amazing skies last week, and "June gloom" has been especially heavy this year.
Not much to report here, except that I am so ready for school to be out for C2 and C1. It will be so nice not to have the morning rush. Maybe we'll even stay in our PJ's! Along with a few day trips we want to take, the kids and I have been working on a list of things we want to do this summer on those days that we're at home with "nothing to do". I've asked each kid what they are specifically interested in doing, and then we've come up with some things that we're all interested in. Here are some things on our list:
--Do science experiments with household items. We have a great book with hundreds of ideas.
--Make things with wood scraps. Grandpa has donated lots of his scraps from his workshop.
--Paint. We have an old chalkboard easel out on the back patio that we will turn into a paint easel.
--Learn more Spanish. The kids love saying the words they've picked up from Dora the Explorer. I also teach them lots of Spanish words, and so does our good friend and former neighbor, Sealaura (who also happens to be a profesora de espanol!)

One of Cheryl's kids named this one Skippyjon Jones, and since we love the Skippyjon Jones books the name kind of stuck! Here is Daddy C below, reading about the famous kitty. I swear this picture was not a set-up, I came in the front door, and there they were so I grabbed my camera.
Skipito, as we sometimes call him, has proven himself to be a very mellow and good natured kitty for a family with 3 kids. Baby C adores him. Even Daddy C loves Skipito.
"Do you know what coffee tastes like? Like water, milk, rotten chocolate....and dirt!"
-A quote from my son, when he was 5
On that note, I decided to join in with this week's Thematic Photographic over at Written Inc. The theme this week is "HUMAN". And what could be a more human experience than drinking coffee, and everything social and cultural that it includes?
This leads me to want to open up a discussion: Do you have any interesting, silly or humorous coffee stories?
I will share one:
In my college years, I went to Mexico to study in a language immersion program. It was there that I drank some of the best coffee I had ever had, and on one occasion, the worst! I was staying with a host family. One morning, as I sat down with the family for breakfast, coffee was served. I loaded up my cup with some milk and a few large teaspoons of sugar from a bowl on the table. I kept trying to sip the coffee but it was awful and bitter and made me want to gag! I didn't want to be rude, but I was only able to get down about a third of it. Later I learned that the white, granular substance on the table was not sugar, but salt!
Other fun coffee memories:
-Finding a golf ball in my coffee (compliments of one of my sweet little angels!)
-Having regular coffee talks over the past four years with my neighbor, Sealaura. Check out her blog. She will put a smile on your face.
Ok, your turn!

Since I have not been able to run lately, I have been pouring my energies into gardening. I have not tried to grow anything edible since before I had my first child. Now, three kids later, I am back at it again, and thoroughly enjoying being outdoors with my kids. I love to see how excited they get over a rolly-polly, a new bloom, a ladybug, or just digging in the dirt with a plastic shovel.
Here are some snapshots from today of what I have growing:
Some yellow squash, squeezed in between rose bushes,
A velvety daylily in burgundy,
A daylily in firey reddish-orange,
Peas growing up the wall,
A cactus crowned with flowers,
And the prettiest picture of all:
Can I just add that today I did something I have never done before:
I mowed the lawn all by myself. The grass was up to our knees. Daddy C has been busy with lots of work, and I wanted the time we have together in the evening to be chore-free for him. I wanted to surprise him but could not figure out how to start the mower. I finally had to call him and let the cat out of the bag. The job was completed, with a few minor glitches, but overall, I feel very invigorated, and it was kinda fun!
