Birthday Boy

I remember holding my first child in my arms and thinking to myself, "I'm so glad they don't grow very fast because I don't even want to think about what it will be like to have a kid old enough to go to kindergarten." Well, now that I have a 5 yr old, I know that I was wrong about a lot of things. Kids do grow fast.... REALLY fast.
I attempted to start a new tradition of breakfast in bed, but it is a little difficult when my kids get up as early (or earlier) than I do.
Jarom's favorite present... the scooter that I have been saving for him for over 8 months. (I knew he would love it!)
Due to the fact that we just moved and live so far away from most of Jarom's friends, I needed a party idea that would be inexpensive (as in free) and fun so he would feel like he actually had a birthday a party. I decided to go with an ICE theme... And though not all the games and activities revolved around ice, most of them did revolve around water... without getting wet.
 Best idea ever!
 A water-filled plastic drop cloth.
Fold it in half, tape the edges together and fill with water. They had SOOO much fun on it even though it didn't last as long as I wanted it to. (I should have bought the heavy duty stuff and stickier tape) but they still had tons of fun on it while it lasted.
 Birthday Surfing!
When my crappy tape came off one end they had even more fun playing inside the giant "tunnel" that still had enough water in the bottom to hold it to the ground.
It was such a windy day, it blew the plastic completely open and held it open while they ran in and out of it.
Then it became a parachute.... (kids have the greatest imaginations.
I can honestly say, I have never had a cake turn out so awful as Jarom's 5th birthday cake, but everyone ate it, so I guess it could have been worse.... it was just a mess!

Monday I spent the day with the kids at the sand dunes or more specifically, Egin Lake. They had a blast, and the water was pretty nice... not warm, but not icy cold either.
Phoenix wasn't okay with the water, but the sand made her happy... even though she doesn't look it.
 After hours...and hours... and hours...
We finally called it a day. It was a fun birthday for all of us.

My 5 favorite things about Jarom...

1. I love how good you are to your sisters. You look out for them, and help them just like I always dreamed you would. And whenever I thank you for being so nice, you tell me, "they are my sisters, that's what I'm supposed to do."
2. I love how you can make me laugh with your random humor and your hilarious facial expressions... they never fail.
3. I love how tough you are. You are actually convinced that one of these days you are going to pin one of your uncles to the ground in a wrestling match, and every time you loose you just start doing more push-ups.
4. I love the way you are a Momma's boy. I love your hugs, your snuggles and the way you would do just about anything to make me happy.
5. I love your imagination. You can create the most incredible stories in your mind. I love peaking in your room when you are playing and listening to what you come up with. You are very creative.
I love you Buddy. I loved you from the moment I held you in my arms for the first time, and every day I love you a million times more. I am so blessed to have such a wonderful boy.
