Driving....
Over the past week we decided to travel to Washington for a little reunion with my Grandpa and Grandma Loew. We had so much fun visiting with everyone, and catching up the old friends and family. The down side to the trip was the large amounts of driving, and the time that we spent sitting on the side of the road waiting for the tow truck.
We left our house at 6:00 pm on Wednesday, expecting to arive in Vale around 11:30, but after about 4 hours of driving I looked down to see that our temperature gage was maxed out, way over 260 degrees. We pulled over and made a few phone calls while we tried to figure out if the engine really was as hot as it was saying it was. It didn't appear to be acurate, but we called a mechanic just in case. He advised us to get a tow truck, but since we were in a creapy little town with too many strange people walking around at that time of night, we decided to try to drive to a better lit area. We had only gone maybe 5 miles (at 50 mph) when the gas gage started acting funny and jumping around a lot. By the time we got to Mountain Home even our speedometer was off. (we were supposedly going 25 mph whether we were really going 55 or 0)
We stopped at the first gas station, and called the mechanic again. He guessed it had something to do with either the computer or the temperature sensor, which if our car really was overheating, it could have really messed up the sensor. He offered to tow us, and loan us his personal van so that we would have a way to transport us and the kids to my parents house.
Durring the 2 hour wait for the tow truck we tried to get the kids to sleep, but unfortunetly, they were ready to wake up and play. Jarom had been fighting a feever off and on all week, and of course it had to come back now, while we were sitting in the car. He was miserable, and Taysia was past tired, to the point that she wouldn't sleep. It was a long wait. Finally we were able to switch vehicles and continue driving. We arived at 5:00 am.
The next night my little sister Shaylona and I stayed up all night (literally, we didn't sleep until like 10:30 when we were driving in the car to go to Washington) sewing her homecoming dress. We almost finished it, and I LOVE it! It turned out super awesome! It isn't totally finished, she still has to finish a few seams, hem it, and add a zipper, but we really got a lot done in one night.
The next day we drove all the way to Washington. It was about an 8 hour drive, of which I slept only about 2. The other six were spent trying to entertain 2 kids who were more than sick of driving in the car.
Saturday was spent with family. It had been WAY too long since I last saw my cousins and grandparents, so it was fun to catch up. I also got to meet 3 new in-laws all of whom I LOVE! I have awesome family!!!
Sunday we went to our old ward. I miss that ward!!! It was so fun to see everyone, and how much they have all changed. I can't believe how everyone has grown! All the kids who used to be under four feet have shot up and turned beautiful! lol. Five years is a long time to go without seeing anyone from your childhood years.
Sunday night we drove back to Oregon.
Monday we spent the entire day waiting for our van to be finished. We decided to get our thermostat changed Monday morning because it was sticking. Sadly what he thought would be a 2 hour job turned out to be a 6 hour job, so we left at 5 and spent another night driving. We got home at 11. The worst part is, four hours after we left, our temperature gage shot up past 260 degrees again, so $300 later, the problem is still there. Sigh. Atleast we know it isn't overheating. We are thinking it is probably something electrical.
We did have a lot of fun, even though there was a lot of driving, most of it was spent driving with my mom and sisters, so it was a lot of fun. I am so glad we went. If nothing else, we made a lot of memories. I only wish I hadn't packed the camera back with our luggage because that picture that I never took of us trying to sleep on the side of the road would have looked great in a scrapbook.
