1. What does the Cross mean to me?

It signifies the cleansing of the sins of the world and marks the beginning of a new person, new life which are brought into this world by Christ. It also represents the re-inheritance of freedom by mankind. It marks also the clear division between life and death once again as only those who believed and willing to carry the Cross could have life.

2. The Cost of Following Christ (Luke 9:57-62)

Through this camp, I have indeed benefited plenty and have discovered more about being a disciple. It is indeed a great blessing to be able to serve God. However, some of us may not know what is the whole meaning of being god's disciple. We treat servanthood as something which we do at times (not all the time) and the extent to which we contribute is not always consistent. We often hesitated at times and we often get distracted by things around us. We get tired at times and thus give excuses to escape. Why? Because we miss the first step - knowing our purpose.

  • Services to God is so much more significant compared to our services to man and we should never compromise our services to God with our services to man.
  • Services to God is not a job but a lifetime and eternal commitment with no turning back while giving 100% of ourselves without any division or reserved concentration. It is simply a service without "but".
  • The Cost also means sacrificing what we currently hold tightly.
  • We should always keep in mind that this is not a one-time payment but a lifetime and daily payment which we have to pay.
  • We simply got to know the purpose and motives why we want to follow Christ before we can take the next step which will never end.

3. What is a Disciple?

A disciple is a Learner, Believer, Servant, Witness, Follower and Imitator. As a Learner, we listen and we learn from God's word and teachings. As a Believer, we practise faith and believe in Him. As a Servant, we practise what we learnt and allow Him to use us. As a Witness, we go around testifying His love and sharing this Love with others. As a Follower, we allow God to be the leader of our lives. As an Imitator, we reflect the Christ-likeness in us and do what He does.

3 Basic Principles of a Disciple

  1. Continuity
  2. Love
  3. Fruit

As a Disciple, we should listen, read and study God's word, follow by memorising them and medidate them and lastly apply what we learnt. This should be done continuously and not once in a while. For walking with Christ is a journey, not a destination.

Love is an authentic badge of discipleship. It is about giving ourselves without demanding anything in return. The greatest commandment speaks very clearly, that we should love one another just like how Christ has loved us. Then the world will know that we are His disciples.

If you remain in me and my words remain in you, ask whatever you wish, and it will be given you. This is to my Father's glory, that you bear much fruit, showing yourselves to be my disciples. - John 15:7-8

Fruit in Characters - Galations 5:22-23 says, "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. Against such things there is no law." The Scripture clearly stated the 9 characteristics that we should reflect.

Fruit in Service - This simply means Evangelism. We bear fruits through Evangelism via sharing the gospel to the lost. To friends, schoolmates and even the strangers on the streets.

3 Essential Conditions

1. Unrivalled Love (Luke 14:26)

We should always love God because by loving God, we can also learn to love God's people.

2. Unceasing Cross-bearing (Luke 14:27)

We should ask ourselves the following question, "Are we willing to take up this cross?" He clearly stated that unless we carry our Cross daily and follow Him, we cannot be His disciples.

3. Unreserved Surrender (Luke 14:33)

In life, we are not the owner and the things we have do not belong to us but God. We should surrender everything to Him, trusting that He has a plan for us, to prosper us.

Down the Via Dolorosa Called the Way of Suffering

Down the Via Dolorosa in Jerusalem that day
The soldiers tried to clear the narrow street
But the crowd pressed in to see
The Man condemned to die on Calvary

He was bleeding from a beating,
there were stripes upon His back
And He wore a crown of thorns upon His head
And He bore with every step
The scorn of those who cried out for His death

Down the Via Dolorosa called the way of suffering
Like a lamb came the Messiah, Christ the King,
But He chose to walk that road out of
His love for you and me.
Down the Via Dolorosa, all the way to Calvary.

The blood that would cleanse the souls of all men
Made its way to the heart of Jerusalem.

Down the Via Dolorosa called the way of suffering
Like a lamb came the Messiah, Christ the King
But He chose to walk that road out of His love for you and me
Down the Via Dolorosa, all the way to Calvary.
