Momentary Lapse of Reason

It’s a shame – I have kept this blog up and running without any updates for more than weeks. The most compelling reason for this ignorance is the loss of anonymity. A bunch of people have approached me in the last few weeks, asking me, “Are you techiedude? Are you techiedude? Oh!! We shared a few emails during the application process etc. etc.” Once the blog lost its anonymity; at the same time techiedude lost its flair. There is no fun in blogging anymore – no fun in invoking thought provoking arguments, philosophical discourses, regular whining and pining and the usual “you are a crap, I am a superstar” stuff. Boredom has crept into the blogging synapses in my brain and requires electric shocks to decimate it once in a while.

On the other side, the phone has stopped buzzing – endless weeks of recruiting hustle and bustle have ended. I have gladly accepted an offer in the west coast where I will be spending my summer this year. I could have never foreseen the amount of stress involved in the entire process. Thank God! It’s over. My biggest takeaway from the process – Quality matters, Quantity doesn’t. It can be best summarized by a piece of lyrics from a Pink Floyd song:

“To martyr yourself to caution
is not going to help at all
because there'll be no safety in numbers
when the Right One walks out of the door”

So, well said…

And with recruiting at rest, the first part of the internship has already started – MAP. We are doing a European expansion study for an IT outsourcing firm based in Michigan. I cannot talk in details about the project due to non-disclosure confidentiality agreement but I can surely blog the process – to help future prospective learn what MAP is all about? I am still toying with that idea.

And I didn’t miss HBS119. I will just mention a small anecdote from my interview experience (This is a real story and I am not making it up):

This was one of the first round interviews back to back. I was sitting opposite to my interviewer on the other side of the table. Half way through the interview, my interviewer was taking notes in full view to my disbelief. He kept the paper over the table and was scribbling stuff – I tried consciously to keep my eyes off the paper. To my horror my eyes wandered off in the direction of the paper and at the same time my interviewer’s eyes landed on me. I immediately apologized…

I got invited for 2nd Round interviews with that firm…

I should end this post by extending Congratulations to all the 2nd Round admits. We hope to see you all during GBR in April.
