New Years Eve

New Years Eve was my dad's last day in town, so we spent the morning at Shorline park with the girls.  We had a fun morning walking with the girls while they rode bikes and scooters.

Adele is really getting the hang of the balance bike!

And we had a nice lunch with my dad.

Our New Years Eve was much more special than most, because we got to celebrate the wedding of my cousin Mary and her new husband Sam.  I decided to relax and let the photographer take the pictures at the wedding, but now I realize I don't have many pictures to share of their beautiful evening.  Here are a few of my favorites from the night that Mary shared later.

Mary and Sam!

My cousins Kristen and Mary and my beautiful Aunt Joyce!

And here are Wes and I, all dressed up for a NYE wedding...

And my Uncle Daniel dancing with my Grandma at the wedding.  Such fun!

If only I'd gotten a picture of the donut cake!  Happy New Year and Congrats Mary and Sam!

3 and a Half

Katie Sue is 3 and a half!  On this particular morning, Emeline was out with Grandpa, and Wes was off work, so we had a fun morning out with Kate and Adele.

First we went to Adele's 2 year check up.  She's growing well!

Then we stopped off next door for a hair cut.  Kate had been asking for one ever since Adele got hers.  I was very sad to chop off all this beautiful long hair, but she hates brushing it or putting it back, so we went for it.  Here she is before!

During...

Adele lounging and watching Frozen...

And after....it's a super cute, short bob.  It looks great, but I already miss that beautiful long hair.

Then in the afternoon, we decorated her half birthday cake together.  Mommy regrets starting this tradition a little bit...it makes for a LOT of cake around Christmas time.  But the girls have lots of fun with it.

Singing happy half birthday after dinner :)

So Kate at 3 and a half....where do I start?

She is such a ball of energy and ideas.  She has so much to say and so many thoughts about the world.  I wish I could write more of them down, but she is always asking questions and trying to figure things out.  She talks a lot about storms coming these days, because there was a storm with thunder and lightening a few weeks ago.  We don't get much rain around here, but when it's cloudy, Kate says a storm is coming!

Kate has the sweetest heart.  The other day she was crying and upset about wanting juice. And then she said, "Angels are in our heart." I said, "Angels are all around us protecting us and Jesus is in our heart when we ask him to be." So she started whispering "Jesus please come into my heart". Then I asked her if she just asked Jesus to come in her heart. And she said "Yes, and to take away my tears." So then I asked her if I could pray for her and she said yes. And I prayed for the Holy Spirit to fill her and guide her and for Jesus to be her strength and song.  At least that was some of what I prayed, it as all while driving.  It's hard to know what God is doing in her at such a young age, but I'm so grateful for her openness to Him.

Along with her sweetness, she is also stubborn.  She is not very quick to say sorry, and she is not so quick to forgive.  She needs her space to process and think things through.  That is the same thing when doing new things.  She won't do anything until she is good and ready, but when she is, she is whole hearted and happy about it.

Kate is doing gymnastics in addition to preschool these days, and seems to be enjoying it so far.  We had a few weeks of her refusing to participate (did I say stubborn?) because she felt uncomfortable having a male teacher, but once she got a girl coach, she's been loving it.  We hope she opens up to guy teachers soon, there are a lot of good ones out there.

Kate also stopped using pull ups at night recently, and it's been pretty smooth sailing...for the most part.  She is growing up so fast.

And Kate is full of jokes and games.  She her favorite joke these days is "Guess what, mama?" ... "CHICKEN BUTT!!"  It's hard to get annoyed at this silly joke when its followed by her big jublilant smiles with squinty eyes.  :)

We love our Katie Sue!  Happy Half Birthday to you!

Christmas

We had a very busy Christmas this year, with lots of little ways to celebrate the birth of Jesus.

We started out the festivities on the Sunday before Christmas with a Christmas play at Church.  Emeline and her other 5 year old friends got to be angels.

Here she is with two friends from church who are also in her kindergarten class.

And here's the whole sweet group of all the angels.

After the service, they had crafts and games for the kids, including face painting.  Everyone got to choose anything they want...so what did Kate choose?  Spiderman of course.

Emeline went a little more Christmas themed with a reindeer.

And Adele just had fun running around.

On Christmas Eve, we joined our friends Greg and Elizabeth for church and then came home for dinner, and birthday cake for Jesus.  This year I made a burnt almond cake.  It was yummy!

Wes smoked some salmon and we had a lovely dinner of appetizers with Great Grandma Diane and Grandpa David.

The girls were very excited to open gifts after that.

To follow the musical theme we started with Adele's birthday piano, Emeline got some drums...

Kate got a ukulele...

And Adele got a harmonica....which she hummed into cause she's still learning how to blow :)

On Christmas morning, we opened some more presents, and headed over to Aunt Diane's and Uncle Miles' for brunch, and yet again more presents :)  The matching pjs from Grandma Chris were a hit.  We let them wear them most of the day.

We came home for naps, made a quick stop at Uncle John's to see family and say Merry Christmas, then back to Aunt Diane's for Christmas dinner.    Lots of family time and good food to celebrate.

We are so grateful for the gift of Jesus and all the gifts God has given us!
