Here's a little update on the Merkley's.
Erik: halfway through his pediatric rotation, with the worst of it behind us. Next up is internal medicine and then OB/GYN. Then he gets a Christmas break to recuperate in sunny Arizona. So far there are good and bad things about pediatrics, as there were with surgery. I'm resigned to a last minute career choice. In his spare time (ha!) he tries to keep up with his second love, college football (you might think I'm first, but alas, it's the NBA). Morgan supports him in this, although they don't always see eye to eye.
A House Divided
Watching the game together
Erik taught Morgan to clap whenever the spectators cheered
Morgan: crawling everywhere, getting into everything, and yet still charming everyone, including me, chief picker-upper and fun-thwarter. She's been pulling herself up on everything in the house, one of her favorites being me and any hair she can grab in the process. Lately she's been fascinated by the dryer. I've been very tempted to let her crawl in.
Our child prodigy
Me: I was asked to play a harried mother in a skit for a church seminar. You know, crying child, messy house, husband unexpectedly bringing boss home for dinner, at wits end... I feel like I can pull it off, even with my lack of acting ability. I've been practicing just such a scene for months now. Except the boss part. Every time I start getting overwhelmed and depressed about life, God sends me reminders that I have it good. Tonight I read about Queen Noor, an American who married King Hussein of Jordan. They didn't even have privacy on their honeymoon. Even when life is hard, at least it's the hard I picked, and it could sure be worse!
