Spring Break 2009

It's a loooooong drive to southern California, but Gregg made it in 16 1/2 hours! The boys and I had to consolidate all rest, food and stretch breaks of course, because we were 'making good time'. We did arrive in good time, although a bit wilted and saddlesore!

Disneyland was great fun as usual, and we visited Legoland for the first time. The boys liked it as much as they did Disneyland, so I'm glad we made the trip!

Check out this little video of our fun times!!

Now it's back to school and the long final push to summer! The boys are both playing Little League - Jake in T-Ball and Tom in Farm League. They both love baseball and are having a ton of fun!

First Communion

Hi everyone!

Tom made his First Communion in April, soon after his 8th birthday. It was a big day, and Tom was very excited, possibly more about about his new tie than the actual event! There were about 50 children making their First Communion that day. Most were from the Holy Trinity parish school. Holy Trinity is our parish, but Tom attends Valley Catholic. There were 4 other Valley Catholic kids receiving the sacrament at Holy Trinity that day. The remainder of the kids attend public school and are Holy Trinity parishoners.
The little girls were so darling in their white dresses and veils...made me just a bit sad that I won't get to dress up a little girl that way. But Tom was so very handsome and I'm sure Jake will be too when the time comes!

It's only May, but I find myself very ready for school to be done for the summer! Here I'm an adult, but I look forward to it as much as a kid. The school year is just so very hectic, with homework, Cub Scouts, sports, etc. I don't know what I'm going to do next year when Jake starts Kindergarten and it's TWO times the hectic-ness! What do you folks with 2+ kids do??? Seriously, you are my heros. I'm sure I'd crash and burn.
Mother's Day is on Sunday and I've told Gregg that my biggest desire is to sleep in LATE (that's 8:00am in our world) and go out to brunch! I hope I'm going to get my wish!

So here is the debut of the Team Hefner Family blog! Hopefully, I'll find the time and motivation to keep it up!

It's been a busy winter for us...Gregg was gone for 4 weeks in January/February in Oklahoma for Army Reserves. It's always tough for all of us when he's gone for long periods of time, but we're not complaining...4 weeks in Oklahoma is nothing compared to the 13 months in Iraq we all endured! We spent the time having fun; we had a family Wii tournament/slumber party with Aunt Laurie, Katelyn & Kayla. Tom is a Wii tennis star, and Jake is a Wii champion bowler (and Mommy ROCKS at Guitar Hero III!). And Tom almost won his Cub Scout Pinewood Derby (second out of what seemed like 200 cars)!

We also spent a lot of fun time skiing at Bachelor this winter. This is Tom's third winter skiing and he's getting very good...and fearless of course! I've been skiing for more years than I'd care to admit and on the last day of President's Day weekend I had the perfectly humiliating experience of being left in the dust...punked by a 7 year old! He's quite certain he's ready for double black diamonds but we're trying to keep him on the blue squares for now! We'll start Jakey skiing next year (he says "On Team Hefner we start skiing when we're 5 yrs old!") and he's really excited to get going. So watch out for Team Hefner in the 2018 Winter Olympics!

The boys are doing great in school...Tom loves Science, Math, Religion & Social Studies and does not like handwriting...practicing cursive is akin to a communist plot as far as he's concerned ("Mommy, No One writes like this!!!"). Jake is getting ready to start Kindergarten in Fall and is excited to join Tom at the 'big boy school'. He's the Mr. Social of the 4 year old preschool room. We've heard the term "Class Clown" more than once from his teachers - so his next couple of years of school should be good fun.

We'll try to keep this up and keep in touch! Best Wishes to you all!
