Advent Calendar

For Christmas we had an advent calendar growing up that my mother made.  My brother inherited the advent calendar but I loved it and I wanted one for my kids.  So I recreated it.  It is red corduroy with a felt tree.   Each day the kids pick out an ornament to put on the tree, a treat to eat, and an activity to do for the day.  It is nothing fancy but I love it.

It does go all the way to 25 even though this picture doesn't show it.

Update

It is not that I haven't been crafty or put things together I just am terrible about posting them.  I have made several scrapbook pages, cards, and blankets.  I have made some things for my kids' rooms and some activities for them.  I will work on posting things, but then again, I am not sure anyone even checks this anymore.  So, here is a preview of some of the things I have done.

This was an idea I got to display my son's pictures.  We were running out of space on the fridge and he had a big empty wall.  I just found some pre-cut round plaques at the store and some scrapbook paper with balls on it.  Painted the plaques, distressed them, mod podged the paper on the plaques.  Stapled twine on the back of each one.  If I had to do it again I would have made the plaques bigger but I like it.

I know you are impressed by my son's artwork...This was taken close to a year ago and you should see his drawings now! :)

 Rocker blanket.
Toile blanket. (What gender would you use this for?)
 Giraffe blanket.
One of my favorite cards I have made.

Fun black and white card.
Congratulations on having a baby boy card.

Birthday card for my friend who works with cows, well kind of.

Bows, Bows, and More...Bows

A good friend of mine wanted some cute fabric bows but didn't know how to do them herself. And she had no desire in learning how to. So she asked if I would. We went to the store and she picked out a ton of adorable fabric and then I went to work. I looked at several tutorials to get ideas and it took me forever because I had a lot of other projects going on at the same time. But, I got them done. I was able to make a few for me in the process (not pictured). It was fun, but after making over 70 bows, I need a break.

Most of the bows. I had already given about 7 or 8 to her, some of my favorite ones...

Go Hawkeyes

Just another update of something I made a while ago. I made this blanket to sell at a bazaar we had a few months ago. It didn't sell but nothing Hawkeye really sold that day. Not sure why. No problem though, because I love it enough to consider keeping it for myself!

Homemade Hostess Cupcakes

Of course, since I am terrible at blogging, a friend and I made these forever ago. I don't have the exact recipe we used but here are several websites that look about like what it was:

http://www.foodandwine.com/recipes/chocolate-cupcakes-with-cream-filling

http://www.crazydomestic.com/2010/06/homemade-hostess-cupcakes.html

We used a cake mix for the cupcakes and made the filling, ganache, and frosting. They were UNBELIEVABLE!! I truly couldn't stop at just one. One thing we learned is to fill the cupcakes until they feel heavy. Not just until it starts to come out the top. A little time consuming but SOO worth it!

My Baby Girl's Blessing Dress

In my church, we give babies a name and a blessing. It is done to have the babies name put on the records of our church and a blessing is given to the baby with guidance and inspiration. Of course the baby won't remember it so usually someone writes down what was said.

Anyway, this is the dress I made for my little girl's blessing. My mother-in-law traditinally makes every family one baby girl dress when the first girl is born. She passed away in last January however, before she got to make the dress for my daughter. She had purchased the lace to make the dress (She used TONZ of lace on her dresses) so I used some of the lace and made my own. This was one of my firs real sewing adventures. Thanks to a dear friend for holding my hand through the whole thing. It is much more simple than what my mother-in-law would have done, but I loved the way it turned out.
