Re-Creating a Favorite
Growing up, we had a blanket that was Magical! Taking a nap was always perfect. The blanket was made by my Grandma, and was made of leftover upholstery scraps. The reason it is so magical, is that the fabric is really dense and heavy, making the blanket heavy...which feels like a warm hug. Curling up in a chair with this blanket is the best 20 minute catnap ever!! So, when my old company was clearing out our fabric library, I snaged a bunch of fabrics to take home and recreate the Magical Blanket.

NAREK
Who got freaked out when they read the title of this post!! It freaks me out typing it!!
Anyway, I saw on a friends post on Facebook, that she watched "Watcher in the Woods" (the most-all-time-scariest-movie-on-the-planet)for Halloween with her kids. She said that all these years that she didn't know that the "watcher" was an alien....well, that is news to me too!! How did I miss that one?!?! I have seen it about a hundred times (and all 100 times I was scared out of my mind!!!), and most recently watched it a couple years ago at Halloween time (which scared me to death then too!!) Not once do I remember there being an alien. So, apparently on the DVD, there is an alternated ending, so I got on youtube and did some searching and it is all there...you can see Betty Davis and her freaky eyes for yourself:
p.s. it took me a couple minutes to psych myself up to watching it...it is near midnight on Halloween....not the ideal time to watch the most-scariest-movie-of-all-time's alternate ending when you live alone in a big house in the middle of nowhere!!

Moving!
Ok, I am a lame blogger...I have no excuse...I still have no job. But much like my own journal, I only make entries on big events in my life. Well, this is a big one...I am moving to Utah.
After graduation, I thought "there is no way I would ever live here permanently", I am a California girl at heart, and will probably always will be. Well, I found the reason I would live there permanently...to avoid being homeless. I lost my job in January, and the job market is still not up to snuff in my field, interior design. Honestly, I don't see it turning around here in San Diego for at least another year. Because of other circumstances, it became necessary for me to sell my condo, and it went fast--7 days! So, since there is no chance any landlord would take me in as a tennant with no job, I am moving up to Heber, about 30 minutes from Park City, and 30 minutes from Provo...it really is pretty up there! Hopefully, the Utah job market fairs better than California. I am anxious to have a change of scenery that might produce a job, so I can contribute to the working world.
I will be taking care of the "farm" and welcome visitors...there is plenty of room!

Checking out Chicago
Now that my schedule is a wee bit more open than before, I figured I should take some time to go visit some of my sisters and their families. I was lucky, I had a free ticket that was expiring this month, so I didn't have to pay more than $7 for the taxes. So, as soon as we settled on the right week, I was on a plane. My oldest sister lives near Chicago. I have visited a bunch of times before, but mostly in the fall. The last time I was there, this little guy was much littler...I remember feeding him peas and carrots in his high chair, so it was about 2 years ago. Isn't he so cute...I love his big smile!! Since his older sisters were in school, I don't have any photos of them. But, as usual, I was the designated hair french braider EVERY morning for Jenna. Her mom isn't that talented in the braiding dept...which I can't figure out why, there were 6 of us girls and she never had to do our hair? Anyway, I was woken up every morning at 7:30 on the dot to braid her hair.
Heather's kids have such different personalites and looks. The oldest, Haley, is 15 blonde and looks like her dad, but her stubborness is just like her mom. She is funny, so smart, creative, sporty, musically talented. She is the "all around girl".
Jenna is 8ish (I don't really know) and looks like her momma, but is so fashionably savvy. She thinks about what she is going to wear, what accessories she will add to it. She is musical too, and is a typical little girl that loves all the things kids her age are into....Miley, High School Musical, glitter and sparkles. When she gets upset...she is UPSET!! (look out Heather, teen years are ahead, and I can't imagine what she'll be like). One night she was crying about something minor, and I looked at her and said, "Why are you crying like your mom and dad are dead, your house caught on fire, your legs got chopped off and your puppy got ran over?"
Payton is such a sweet little boy...and ALL boy. He loves all things CARS (as in the movie), baseball, trucks, puzzles...your typical boy. Unlike his sister, his cry is the sweetest. You can tell when he is really crying or faking. His real cry is painful to hear...he gets the flubs and starts to hyperventilate...he has a sweet little heart.
So, while I was there, I ended up going through all of Heather's food magazines and copied a bunch of recipes. We baked, went to the library, played games, shuffled kids to and fro, and just hung out. One night we were getting the kids ready for bed early so we could play a game (Dad and Haley were at church), and the lights flickered...then were OUT. In about a minute, Heather had the flashlight and lantern out. The kids finished getting ready for bed, and we got Uno Attack out to play a game by lantern light. When the lights go out in the freezing cold, it gets cold in the house pretty fast, so I bundled the kids up and we waited for Heather to come down. I made the mistake of making a ghost noise...that freaked Payton out, his eyes became HUGE and started to get scared. So, I had him try it, so we could scare mom (quick thinking Tanya...he caught on quickly and thought it was funny). Then we played Uno Attack for the next hour till the lights came on and they had to go to bed.
Here are some pics of what Payton and I did during the day...just him and me.
Riding the big wheel. Surprisingly there was no snow on the ground when I got there....just the way I like it.

Look at that perfect stance! When I was up to bat, he was sure to tell me how to do it right. Same with pitching...aparently I throw my leg in the air, just as I am about to throw the ball, and I am supposed to step ONLY.
Puzzles every day, sometimes a couple times a day. He loved to pick up a piece, put it down, and say "Told you it went there!"

I thought I should make a new post and let you all know what I have been up to.
I am looking for new employment....It is hard work. It took me about 2 days to update my resume. I want it to look perfect! In my line of work, the visual is very important. So, I have done that, and applied to a couple different places. Right now I am applying online to a bunch of different job hunting websites. Hopefully between them all, something will turn up. I am going to visit my sisters next week, and I have a couple things that I can do while I am there, so the job searching doesn't come to a complete halt while I am away.
If any of you have any advice, I would love to hear it. I figure finding a job should be my new job. It isn't a full time job...but I am devoted a lot of my time to it. I hang out at Maren's house a lot. That is fun, and gets me out of my house. Last week, I walked 16 miles...that is pretty good! I made a castle cake for Olivia's birthday party. While babysitting Maren's kids one moring, I took a great nap and woke up with Olivia standing over me saying "Tanya, Momma made chocolate chip cookies, they are delicious! Do you want one?" What a way to wake up!
Today, I need to clean my room, I have some girls from church coming over tomorrow for a movie night. That is top priority today after I finish up this last resume. Hopefully it will go fast, I need to take a nap. I am pretty crabby today. A crotchity old man opened a door for me and I said "thank you" but he didn't hear me, so he yelled "you're welcome!" I then said, "thank you" again, a little louder, and he snapped back, "well, I had to drag it out of you!" I then snapped back, "I said thank you, you just didn't hear me, (jerk, softly so he couldn't hear)" .
When you call an old crotchity man a jerk, I think it is time for a nap!

Goodbye DLI
Today I got the dreaded pink slip!! The interior design industry has been suffering for quite a while, and honestly I have been expecting it for the last couple years. However, I didn't expect it today. I thought I was brought along for moral suppport...till I was handed a bouquet of flowers, and I instantly couldn't breath. We all cried and laughed our butt's off for about 2 hours. My boss was heartbroken about it, and she was struggling to get it out. At our largest we were a company of 130ish employees. We (they) now only have 10 or 11. Each person does something absolutely necessary for the survival of the company, so I don't know what will happen if they have to do more layoffs. We all were promised our jobs back if we got more work. She even thought about giving us a leave of abscence for a couple of months, but she wanted us to be able to do what we needed to survive, and didn't want to limit us.
Anyway, I don't know what to say, I am heartbroken over it. I feel like I just got served divorce papers. This company has been a big part of my life for the last 10 years. I have grown in more ways I could ever have imagined. I have made great friends that I will know for life, and I have learned a lot about the working world, and the world in general.
So, if any of you know of any work out there for an interior designer...spread the word!
