Pan Pacific hotel stay!

Well I for one had a blast during the cousin gathering last night. It was fun seeing all of us coming together and then having fun chattng, updating one another. And then there was also fireworks and oh me and a few cousins who are into photography had quite a bit of discussion and tried to learn from one another. Well i did pick up a few tips from them. I'm going to be even more serious in learning it. Especially with scenery and nightmode stuff.

The kids in the room were also crazy and thank goodness no one bothered to complain about us. We were really really noisy! The adults were laughing and busy chatting while the kids were high!! My aunty got a bit worried and scolded all of us for making too much noise... =p

Before going to the hotel me and stef met up and went on a food trekking in Chinatown. We walked throughout Chinatown and went to eat some of the delicious things that I know there. We had laksa for lunch, mango with sago and pomelo for dessert, my favourite pumpkin cake and then had putu bambu (Indonesian version of the Malays putu piring), which is basically just steamed rice flour with gula melaka topped with coconut shreds and sugar. I think i made her walk too much also, so much so that we were both really tired and just sat down at Mc's while waiting for Sheena. That girl got herself in a mini accident. Her back of the car was hit by the car behind cos he thought that she would beat the red light. Thank god she's fine.

After the cousin gathering, Tim and I went to MOS to look for Stef and the rest for clubbing. Well it was pretty fun just that the crowd was really mad and we bumbed into some irritating people. But hey we met some decent guys who are nice and then we also got to know Jackson campmate, who's basically a RnB walking encyclopedia (just like how my cousin call him). pictures have to wait for Sheena to upload them cos with the change of my camera, I couldnt and wouldnt possibly bring my SLR along. My small camera had been passed down to my sister.

All taken from Pan Pacific hotel last night. Tim was saying that i should sell it to be made into a postcard thing. I love the 2 scenery pictures. =) The fireworks was kinda blocked by Oriental so couldnt take pictures like last year. It's okay. There's always National Day! =) Right people?? Be prepared to go there with me buddies.

I'll blog abt the rest of the stuff tonight or tomorrow. VEry tired now from lack of sleep.

CNY eve and CNY with the kids and Chan family

Well if u rely on the pics, they are mostly the kids picture. It was fun this year. I had 3 reunions in a row!! with Stef, with the Indos and with the family. Hmmmm too bad i didnt have any cny dinner like last year! I still remember last year i cooked up a storm in te kitchen and i think it ws fun!! hehehe.. this year it was a minor one.

This weekend is a busy weekend as everyone from overseas has come altogether. People like Eli and Sbass especially whom i only get to see once a year and because i've made plans this weekend, it looks like it's hard to get to see them this time round.

Oh and actually i think i just remembered that I'm supposed to take Stef on a food hunt, hunting around all the food in SG.. probably we'll do that tomorrow at Chinatown. There's lots of things to try out in Chinatown. Or maybe River Hongbao. right Stef? =)

Welcome to the family!!

Sunday, February 11

Hana, Hany, Nata and I went to Chinatown today! And we had a really good time there despite the crowd. Initially we thought we wouldn't even be staying for long. But the excitement of being in the crowd and finding good deals in Chinatown was too much to be contained. We ended up walking thru every street of Chinatown and joined in the festive mood of New Year. It was really fun taking pics and jostling with people.

I guess it was the festive mood. Well i've been so tired out the whole week being chased after tutorials. And now, i'm being chased by deadlines. Right after new year, I have a deadline to meet. And that it is followed by mid terms. Haiz. This sem though the timetable is slack but the preparatory work that i have to put in is really really a lot! And it's tiring me out every week.

At the end of the week i just wanna have a slow relaxing time where I'm not chased by anything. Nothing too wild, but just something that I can have a really slow pace. And i guess today was the best way to end the week. Taking a nice stroll in Chinatown despite the jostling. We didnt even realise that we actually stayed there for 6 hours!! We were looking at every single thing there and well looking at all the commotion during Chinese New Year. The shouting, the bargaining, the cooking, and most of all the joy in everyone's faces. It was only after realising that we've been walking for so long that tiredness started to take its toll on me.

We left Chinatown at midnight, where the last bus had left! And we were left with no choice but the cab. Thank god it wasnt difficult. And now it's time for me to just take a good night rest.

To a bright new day!

Thursday, February 8

Well these days i've been pretty busy with school. When i'm free i'm helping elaine with her last assignment (she's graduating this CNY). She's been so stressed out so i had been accompanying her. Then afternoon pretty much stayed in school the whole time and this time's timetable can really help to lose weight. I have classes from 10-4 straight without break. AS a result, i can only eat 1 meal a daY!!!

The past 2 days (probably coffee deprived) i got dizzy spells in the afternoon and it just developed to slight fever. Really bad but it's good also cause it forces me to sleep early and rest more. The weather is also so scorching hot probably after 1 week of winter i still cant adjust yet. Either that or it's the starting school syndrome. Each time i start school, i'll always fall sick...

Today, i just got back from a badminton session with the Fidz, Samuel and Fanjun (Church peeps). Today i also realised how far is Jurong West stadiuM! sounds so near yet so far. Had a good workout, and boy im really tired out!!! my legs were like jelly and my right arm is very weak. Well we are still working things out to make it a weekly thing. We'll see how.

Next week wed, it's valentine's. Well there's been no plans for it yet. But there's been suggestion (by Fidz) to come over to my place and spend the day using the facility in my house, especially the bowling alley and spending the night watching dvds.. We'll see how...

I'm somehow itching to play mahjong these days. Come to think of it, I haven't played it in a realllllyy long time. (Right nat? When was the last time we played?) It makes me look fwd to CNY cos normally we play the most when it's CNY!

okay let my update stop here cos I need to get back to my tutorial. Looking fwd to a good night sleep!

Jiang Jiu

yes I'm finally back in the blogging world. The short break that I took had been the best time that I ever had with my family. We rarely go overseas together. It's either my siblings and I go together or just my parents going on holiday! The last time we went together as a family was when we went for Cruise together about 6 years ago. We had a lot of fun going to China to have a look at our ancestral home, visiting our 96 year old grand aunt, and of course tasting the local food.

The main thing about going to China was to introduce us the 3 kids to my parents relatives in China. The Chinese relatives were fascinated and got excited when they knew I could speak Chinese and understood a bit of Hokkien (I'm better than my dad! He doesnt understand Hokkien!)

We visited our ancestral home in both Xiamen and Jiang Jiu. Xiamen is the Chan's hometown while Jiang Jiu is the Goh's hometown. Both ancestral homes are so different. The Chan's is considered to be a big house (at their time at least) while the Goh's is pretty small. My mum told me that the Zeng Cuo An, a village where all the Chans lived, consisted of all the rich people. And thus their village didnt look at all like a backward place. They had bungalows in there. In my mum's the people are more friendlier though.

While mum and sis found cheap thrills in shopping, Dad, my bro and I amused ourselves looking at the different foods around. Basically where there is food or a small eatery shop, we would look around and look at the stuff they cook. If it's those snacks my bro and I would actually go and try each one. We had the local's popiah, egg burger, sugared candies (the san zhas were VERY VERY sour, i love the strawberry ones, taste so much nicer), the fried buns and yu2 diao. We were well fed when we stayed at my mum's hometown. There wasnt much to see and look around there but the food were really so nice. We had no problem at all adjusting to the food. All thanks to our wonderful mum who always expose us to her hometown specialties, like oyster omelette, lo mie, wu xiang. Our cousins and uncles over there in China brought us out to eat all the time. And it's "terrible" eating there. Their restaurants serve 13 dishes!!!!! and that's really too much for us!!! But we had to eat to give respect and we couldnt just eat a little. Knowing the Chinese, we the youngest ones were gorged with all the food. Oh and that includes the drink as well. My dad couldnt drink the chinese rice wine, so we the children had to drink for him! It's really a very very strong liqour. I didnt get drunk but it was enough to get me the best sleep I ever gotten from the entire trip.

In Xiamen, there's a small island across it, named Gulang yi! And it was interesting as it almost has the same concept as Sentosa just that there is really people living in there and that it is not a man made island like Sentosa. Someone in Singapore invested and built Underwater World over there and it turned out that it's my uncle's friend. Well of course it cant be compared to ours, but it was passable. The dolphin were so cute! We had to get there by boat and it was bloody cold due to the wind. My nose felt so numb that i almost thought that they were gone.

It was a truly fun and interesting trip! Well at least China isnt as bad as I thought. The people were still backward but they are changing and keeping up with the times. But the traffic is still as bad. Their driving is horrendous and really dangerous. Crossing the road is pretty much like a suicidal act on my part but at least they slowed down in the end. The worse was when the cars drove on the pedestrian pathway! We were really really shocked!! But hey that's their culture.
