Christmas Continued... the Lake House

After a morning/early afternoon of presents, we packed up and headed out to meet the Lonsdales (friends from Medical School that are doing their residency in Marshfield, WI -a few hours from us) at Jacob's family's lake house.
We spent the next couple days there... it is a huge cabin that even has a game room downstairs.
We ate, played, talked (finished off most of the Christmas goodies both families got from neighbors) It was so fun!
We also got to go sledding!

Christmas Morning

Christmas morning... presents, playing, opening toys, eating candy... you know - the norm.
We also had the traditional Oysters which Lucie LOVED (and ate most of - although we all tried some as usual).

Christmas Boxes- More fun than presents

Christmas (although it's not the same without our families in Utah) has its advantages out here.
Because we aren't home, people send us gifts in the mail. Although the gifts are great, the real treat that keeps on giving and giving throughout the whole month of December are the boxes and packing supplies.
They make great houses, robot costumes, mailboxes, Sponge-Bob pants, monsters, dog houses, doll beds, the packing peanuts make great digging games, and the air-filled-pillow things make great bottoms for boats because they will float in the bath, and nice pillows for dolls. You name it and I'm sure our kids have thought it up.

Cutting Down Our Christmas Tree

I sure do love this tradition! We found an even better place to get our tree from than last year.
First off, picture a 40 minute drive down country roads, listening to Christmas music as a family, gorgeous scenery on each side... large farms, trees... gorgeous!
Then, this tree farm was great! Huge piles of firewood, acres and acres of trees to choose from, a tire swing, and when you're all done picking your tree, you can roast marshmallows while listening to Christmas music.
To top it all off, as the man (it's just a husband and wife that own this tree farm) is helping Adam tie our tree on the top of our van, his wife comes out of their house to offer us Chocolate Chip cookies just warm from the oven.
All this.... "what do you say Mastercard?... Priceless?" Better than that...only $30.00 tree and all!
I told you it was awesome!

This picture really doesn't do the tree justice. It was just so pretty. In fact, I didn't take it down until mid-January and even then I really wasn't ready to yet.

Gingerbread Houses

We went to the Carter's to have dinner & make Gingerbread Houses along with the Kasmers & Curreys. All I can say is what talent! It was a blast.

Happy #1 Lucie

Lucie's birthday was fun.

Book & stuffed animals from Grandma & Grandpa Kopenhefer

Booties from Papa & Grandmerry

She didn't have any problem with the cake eating either. I just had to post this succession of pictures... it is exactly what happened.

Not feeling so good now Mom.

Snow

The kids get home from school about 4 and it starts to get dark around 4:30... but it doesn't impede them... Seth especially. I can't even get him to come into the house sometimes after school because he just wants to play (note that he's still wearing his backpack).

Four kids...a whole new level of chaos (and fun)

Lucie is a climbing fiend! Yesterday I was on Seth's top bunk making his bed. I glanced down the ladder and there was Lucie, half-way up it... didn't think that was possible yet.
Lucie's favorite toy is the dishwasher. If it is open, she is unloading it. And her favorite place to sit is on the open door. Between Lucie unloading dishes (very fast) and the dog Etta trying to lick any parcel of food off that may still be on the dishes, I have to be very stealth about when I load the dishes.

I am also graced with dinner preparation music quite often from Lucie and Caleb. All the while being asked homework questions from Kennedy sitting at the table, and stepping over, scissors, tape, glue, and paper scraps from Seth who is making some sort of art project.

Celestial Chaos I tell you... Celestial Chaos!
