An Inconvenient Truth

I know, I know, I'm a little behind the times... but last week I finally watched the show, "An Inconvenient Truth". I've been meaning to watch it for the past year now, but never remembered to request it at the library until just lately. All I can say is that if you haven't seen it you need to.
I think that before anyone makes up their mind to believe or not believe in Global Warming, they should make sure they watch this show just so that they have been educated on both sides of the issue.
As I was watching the show I just couldn't help but think of all the things that are going to happen in the last days before Christ comes again. We all know that God works in natural ways and this pretty much explains how much of the things predicted could come to pass.
Anyway... if you haven't seen the show, you should.

Why Projects take 3xs longer than they should

The other day I was thinking to myself... I don't think we'll ever get this new room finished. It just seems like we never have time to work on it and when we do have time, it seems like we don't get much accomplished.
This Saturday Adam and I spent some time working on the room, and during the middle of it I was reminded why we don't get much accomplished. It is because we have to stop and do damage control and clean up "projects" that our kids are working on while we are working on ours upstairs. The kids project this week?..
I glanced outside only to see Seth, in the garden (well, what was a garden spot), he said he was looking for Polly Pocket. He was having way to much fun to be annoyed at him so I told him to keep on playing until he was all done, then we would hose him off.

The Hair Battle

Kennedy is a very old 6 years, and can do EVERYTHING by herself... including her hair. It has been a battle with her for about a year now. So, I finally decided this is a battle we can both win at. We now have an agreement that if Kennedy lets me do her hair without a huge fuss, then the next day, she can do her own hair. This way I figure I don't have to put up with crying and her undoing what I just put in her hair. At least every other day she will look like she does have parents who care about her and take care of her, and the other days, when she does her hair, she's very proud of herself and feels "beautiful".
I've been taking pictures of the days she does her hair though. I figure that this way, when she is a mom of an independent 6 year old who wants to do her own hair, I can pull up all these "beautiful" pictures of her hair and say to her, "I can't imagine what you are going through."

Too Honest

Yesterday Seth was looking at his face in the mirror and so I came up and put my face right next to his and said, "Look Seth, we look alike." He looked for a second and then he said, "no, my face has skin and yours has all those little spots on it."
Thanks a lot... yes, a little more sunscreen in my youth would have been smart. Not much I can do about it now... I married a Dermatologist, that's as close as I can get to redemption for those many hours bathing in the sun as a teenager. Kids are too honest at times.

Expanding our Garden

We have a little garden in our back yard. This year is didn't do that great so we are working on it so next summer it will be WONDERFUL. This is a few-week-long project because the kids and I work on it every now and then when they get home from school. First off we pulled out a huge raspberry bush that was in the center of it. It produced some raspberries last year, but not enough to justify it taking up so much room. We are also digging and doubling it in size. Seth and Caleb love the dirt. In fact, Seth can't walk by our garden now without at least touching or sitting in the dirt for a second. He talks about how he wants to be an archeologist when he grows up ("but one that wears a clown suit as he digs"). With his love of dirt and being dirty... that may just be a good fit.

Friends

Look at all these cute kids. We swap babysitting with our friends the Hubers while we go to the temple since it is at least a half-day event. This is when they are all at our house.
