THE FAMILY. We were a strange little band of characters trudging through life sharing diseases and toothpaste, coveting one another's desserts, hiding shampoo, borrowing money, locking each other out of our rooms, inflicting pain and kissing to heal it in the same instant, loving, laughing, defending, and trying to figure out the common thread that bound us all together. ~Erma Bombeck

Melissa's Birthday!

The Cake...

This beautiful chocolate cake was one of the best birthday presents I have ever received. Weeks before my birthday I told Drew that the only thing I wanted for my birthday was a "homemade" birthday cake made by him and the kids.

Sure enough, the day before my birthday, Drew came home from work with all the ingredients to make this scrumptious dessert. The kids mixed and stirred and poured and put their blood, sweat, and tears into the cake. After it baked Drew decided to speed the cooling process to insure they could decorate it before bedtime, by putting it in the fridge. During transport, he accidently dumped the whole cake on the floor.

The kids weren't upset though. They just said "Can I have some now?" I told Drew it was OK, and the fact I got him and the kids on video cooking together was present enough. But NO, Drew wouldn't be defeated. He stayed up until 11:00 that night making a new cake and decorating it. And this was the result. A fabulously colorful and YUMMY birthday cake. Just for me. I was thrilled. I feel like the luckiest woman to have such a great husband. And on my birthday he brought flowers home too. We went to Texas Roadhouse for a birthday dinner. And finally came home and ate the yummy cake. It was probably the best birthday I've ever had. Simple and wonderful.

The Cowboy Shirt

The tradition continues. This vintage 1970's cowboy shirt was worn by Drew when he was a little baby. It's the only piece of clothing from his childhood and I've made sure that both my boys had a chance to wear it. Here's a couple of photos of Luke in it.

Blessed in the New Year

Our three amazing kids constantly remind us of how blessed we are and how fast time flies. We'll most likely be moving from Texas in just a few months and it feels strange that we may not be back, even though so many memories were made here. First days of school, the birth of a baby, new friends, broken bones, first steps, new discovories, and lots of laughs. We are so excited for the adventure that awaits our little family, but we will never forget all the great moments we experienced and the friends that we made.
