Vuoden viimeinen Stadi scrap!

Skräppäilypäivä

la 3.12.2011
klo 10.00-19.00

Kadunvarsiparkkitilaa on koulun ympärillä. Klikkaa tästä , niin löydät kartan.

-Maksaako se jotain?-
Sisäänpääsymaksua ei ole :)

-Voinko tuoda lapset?-

Pass it forward handmade 2011 -part 1

This was a fun challenge that was making its rounds on Facebook in January.
I would send off something handmade to the first five who commented on my post.. I sent off two of the packages last week, I have three more waiting to be packed.

My first package already arrived in Sweden.
I made Lisa a bangle I found inspiration for on Pinterest (where else?!?).

The map shows where she lives :)

Oh I hope she liked it...

I'll share more once I know the packages have arrived.

Houston.. we have light!

I spent some quality time yesterday hanging up Christmas lights outside.
Brand new LED-lights that I'm fairly sure they can pick up with bare eyes at the International Space Station ;P
They are b.r.i.g.h.t.

And even straight out the box... tangled... sigh..

Let's just shift this out of focus a bit, shall we?
Oh yes.. much better .

You cannot see my frustration quite so clearly anymore..

Or me dropping nails in the dark.
Or nearly stepping off the stool while reaching for the hammer.
Or any suchlike things.

I've got colored lights too.

Hello bokeh season.

Out of focus works for me.

Too dark to focus anyway.

Camera or attention... ha!

And for dessert...

A nice apple crisp.
I can never make enough of this at our house :)

Start with buttering a pan.

Then peel and cut eight juicy apples.

And throw them in the pan.

In a bowl you will mix:

2+ cups of rolled oats (I eyeball the plus part)

1 cup brown sugar

½ cup flour

1½ tsp cinnamon

1/4 tsp salt

if you like you can also add a little nutmeg in there.

Once mixed cut in 150g which is about a stick and a half of softened butter.

If it seems a bit dry feel free to throw in some more.
This recipe is not exact science :P

Knead, cut, put in some elbow grease until it all resembles this:

Spread evenly over the apples and put in the oven 180C/375F for 40-45 minutes.
It will smell divine...

Plop some in a bowl with some whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

Be prepared to fight for more.

Trust me.

This is why I've increased the original recipe..

My favorite tomato soup

You will need:

2 cans of crushed tomatoes (I know.. the brand I got isn't in cans per say)
2 dl of water (that's 3/4 cups or so)
2 vegetable fond cubes
2 slices of toast (mine is oats)
4 cloves of garlic
200 g of cream cheese with red pepper and chili flavor (I've also used garlic flavor)
½ tbl oregano

The tomatoes go into the pot along with the water. I like using hot water.

Then you add the fond. The one I use is gel like, the dry cubes work just as well :)

Cut the crusts off the toast. I ended up using three slices as they were small.

Tear into crumbs and add to soup.

I crushed my garlic cloves, you can slice them, dice them.. whatever floats your garlic boat :D

Then sit down with a magazine while the soup simmers for 15 minutes.

Add the oregano. Now at this point you have the option of adding a little sweet chili sauce in there. I like the little kick it gives on a cold day. This time however, I was out of it.

I know.. *gasp* the horror of it...

Finally add the cream cheese and let melt.

Then you take your handy-handheld-mixer-thingy and pureé until the soup is lovely and smooth.

Really it looks much better than this horrid picture taken in the darkness of November.

Enjoy a bowl (or two) with fresh bread.

Or throw some croutons on top.
I guarantee it'll warm your toes too :)

Saturday sewing

My old Singer was.. well if not humming, then atleast working hard on Saturday.
I had a list you see...

First I needed to make Susie the camera strap cover I had promised her.
It was mailed today, so it should reach you next week!

Then I cut and hemmed this fabric piece into three kitchen towels.

Yes, from the "cannot-for-the-life-of-me-pass-without-digging-into-half-priced-Marimekko-scraps-bin".

These will be a surprise present for a sweet friend.

Oh I wish I could see her face when she opens the package!

On Pinterest I came across a cute tutorial for a tiny zippered pouch for your ear buds.
I don't know about you, but mine are as a rule, always tangled.
This might be the solution.

While I was at it I made three :)

I still have some more presents I'll be making :)

There's a scarf, a huggy monster and something for my co-workers, I better not tell about yet...

riveting...

The book is even better than I thought it would be.

I'll finish it by tomorrow.

I'll be watching the movie on Thursday.

And I will not compare ;)

Warm ears are happy ears

She chose the yarn.

She approved the pattern.

She wanted a flower on it.

She got it.

love

Two weeks ago we celebrated my sister-in-law's 40th birthday.
It was a big event for her.
Great seeing that side of the family again in bigger numbers.

Here Minna is with Saara and Niina. She is such a sweetheart.

I love this out-take!

Niina had waited to see her second cousins, and they spent some time having fun outside the restaurant.

Happily galloping :)

Niina will be wearing that outfit for her big Indepence Day Ball. I'm happy we found something girly and age appropriate, as opposed to some dresses I've seen in previous years. This one has a nice 50's vibe to it with the halterneck.

The mayor of Helsinki hosts a huge ball at the Finlandia House for all the city's 4th graders. The class has been practicing their dances for three weeks now and the general concensus is that it's fun. yes, even the boys have told me so.

They will perform the dances for the elementary school and parents on Dec 1st, before heading out to the Ball.

Expect loads of photos that weekend ;)

oh my..

.. last night I went to turn off Niina's light..
And I giggled as silently as possible.. and tip toed to fetch my camera.

..still holding onto Donald Duck comics.

Raking..

Can be made fun.

This was all Saara's idea :)

Still digging through that pile...

-birthday pals-

I still have a little "meh" feeling about this page, but I'll let it slide, as I can't figure out what's missing :P maybe some more black stitching under the journaling to anchor it?

These three share a birthday, but Saara gets to be the coolest as she's a year older than the boys.

-4th grade-

What does Niina like best about 4th grade?
Her homeroom, art and music teachers... I like those people too :)
I dumped some antique (yup, yup) KI Memories alphas on the page, as I was never going to use them up otherwise...

-season three-

Glee! Yay!
I watch it online....

-lovin' life-

Yes indeed.
She has a piercing.
It's called a rook.
I really like this page.

-almost-

Thinking about the Shel Silverstein poem that says: almost perfect, but not quite...
Three cousins, three identical summer dresses..
One very stubborn toddler who didn't want anything to do with said dress :P

-snaphappy-

You thought I take a lot of photos?
Oh no.
I'm venturing a guess that my friend has atleast 80 photos from this barbeque.
*grin*
I bought some great camera stamps and used them to make the background.

-STS-135-

This page just makes me happy.
To look at..
The fact that it was the last shuttle mission makes me sad..

The photos are a screenshot of the lift-off and the cool photo of the shuttle I found on the NASA website.

I've always been a bit of a space nut.

Well what do you know.. we're almost through the pile.. only four pages remain.. but those are DT pages you'll have to wait a bit to see ;)

Get inspired pages

I'll start going through the pile, shall I? :)
I'll start with some DT pages.

-ex tempore-

I crocheted a little owl .
To sit on a branch made of lace and torn paper leaves.

#181- sparkly

What you cannot see is that the background paper has sparkle on it too.
You can never have too much bling...
Yes, I confess to being a magpie :P
(that translates to harakka in Finnish)

#182- streetview
-42-

Waiting for my morning bus...
I love how the paper has a street grid on it.

And this was supposed to be
#175- 0 to 10
-12345678910-

..umm.. but I forgot to send it in on time..oops!
That happens sometimes :/

On this one I'm counting airplanes :)

More tomorrow, if you'd like...
