its been more than a year since the last post.

just to offer a 'balance sheet' picture of life right now:
- last paper (finance) is in 6.5 hours - and i am not done,
- flying off to Nepal on Project Namaste IV on thursday 3rd dec and have yet to pack
- my camera. its scratched. much more than i remember it last..

friends are funny. to be more exact, relationships (here i mean friendships, largely) are. friends surprise, irritate, disappoint, bitch, neglect, celebrate, share, gossip, ...

recently i have been all these by my friends. new ones are always a joy to have but old ones are a comfort. somehow.

and myself. its strange how well i can click with guys. i always think it had to do with my upbringing, hanging round brothers, male cousins (no other girls, sadly), growing up in a girls' school... perhaps one day i should just not be so comfortable around them? i mean, not that i actually am uncomfortable, but more for the purpose of not appearing to be 'one of the guys'.
do you think that will help?

on another note, this second half of the year has really brought about much change in me. a few things more i know now about myself:
- some things just Don't and Can't change - at least not without extensive effort and lots of time
- some things just cannot be, so cut it short right when you realise it
- perhaps i'm too logical? some have found me cold and mechanical...

in any case, I can't wait to get to Nepal. the new team is great. made so many new friends whom i really enjoy being with. not to mention.... *wink. yeah. thats it. thats the one!

well hello its been a long time
but it doesnt seem so actually.

i dont know what to say,

except that smu was what i thought it was, and more

quite conflicting really

just hope i like what i learn, soon. i triple hope it will be soon!

ramblingok

Not all A are B
= Some A are not B
DOES NOT = Some A are B (rmb always to take it at face value - not all A are B says nothing about whether there are any A that are B)

Not all A are not B
= Some A are B
does not = Some A are not B

smu sports camp

was fun. tiring, (for someone who was sporty uh, 8 months ago) but fun.
and every sailormooner made it all the better.

highlights:
- hitching rides
- dinner at 10pm
- handball, frisbee
- sunburnt faces (ql!)
- dinner at ICB: stupid games like cai quan (kena thrashed by wx)
- the stocking-over-head experience with yf omgggxx!!
- more even sillier games

---------------------------
gosh i miss the people going overseas to study already.

):

a pity, sometimes, that a precious things like 6-year friendships have to be tested.

did anyone read today's article on perfectly chipped nails in Urban.
i found it quite ridiculous, really.
i think people shouldnt be too hung up on such unimportant things. now when oil has long passed USD 130 a barrel, unemployment rates are climbing, rice is increasingly expensive - do we really care if chipped nails are in.

perhaps that is why we need distractions such as attaining perfectly chipped nails from real life.

Idol 7 finals: David vs. David

I wanted to post before the Idol finals tonight about my thoughts pre-final, but because I was out all day and Indiana Jones III was on before Idol there was no time to do it.

Hence, a post-idol final post on pre-final thoughts will suffice.

Notice now, that the title of this post is not "Cool Cook vs. Average Archie" even though I am very aware of my bias toward the older David.
I was hoping, pre-final, that the special song written for the Idol finalists would not be a smarmy, schmultzy one about faith, hope, dreams, reaching high for the sky .. etc, because we know whose voice and style is better suited for such a song.
(Is it suited for, or suited to? Grammar has left the building.)
Now, post-final, I am quite sad to say that the songs were on the smarmy side.
---
I honestly feel David Cook is the more versatile singer. However, comparing this to David Archuleta, I find that D.A has the better voice for his genre of music.
---
Post-final: Absolutely adored D.C's first U2 song. Faint. The second was okay, I guess, for a rockish song with peculiarly mushy lyrics. The third was good too, only it wasnt the kind of song to provide the Idol final atmosphere where everybody listens and watches, thinking that this is THE moment of the season for the finalist on stage. In other words, it did not end D.C's Idol journey with the superdupermega Bang it was supposed to.

Since this is not a GP essay, and I am no longer in school, I shall not bother with the other side of the argument much, except to say that D.A's voice is really very good, but I kinda wish he hadn't sung 'Imagine' a second time. the first time is magic, the second is well, perhaps near magic, but one can't help but feel the song sounds... familiar (which is what it is).

The thing I am most upset about will be said now.
The judges really ought not to praise one to the skies and leave out the other (even though not criticising him) and thus make it so obvious who they think are going to win. Ultimately it is still up to the american people! Unless of course, it is for the evil intention of swaying the public to share the judges' opinion of the finalists' performances in order to produce the desired voting outcome. and I know I would still say this even if the one who got 'knocked out' was D.A and not D.C. Imagine if it were this way round how little David would feel.. I think he would be quite crushed, to have to live through this day not hoping and wondering if he were going to win, but thinking that he probably will lose, after all the judges said about D.C's performance. There's a difference! I mean when they've gotten this far... be nice. Say positive things so they go back feeling good about themselves la! hai..
---
Sadly though, in the end I think the majority of voters are adolescent and pre-teen girls, who probably aren't all too keen on stubble.

Some last words: I still cannot wait for DAVID COOK to release his album.
And omg Sembawang has moved out of Eastpoint now I have to go all the way to faraway Tampines to find a cd store!!

Oh before I forget, here is a segment of an interview. This is the link:
http://www.realitytvworld.com/news/simon-cowell-predicts-david-cook-will-win-american-idol-7140.php

Simon says:
"I think you'd struggle a bit on the interview. Once you got past 'gee' and, 'gosh,' there's not very far to go," Cowell said about Archuleta's speaking skills. "But that's just the way he is. He's a young kid. He hasn't got that charisma, experience. You get the feeling that he's kind of being almost like trained to do this over a period of time. He hasn't really experienced life. I like people who have had to work a bit... then get a break."

Just found it funny. haha.

-----
Totally unrelated but, it has just been released that Yao Ming donated 500,000 yuan for earthquake relief in China, and critics are calling him stingy. I wont give all the details, but the salient ones are: "Last year he earned some 55 million dollars from basketball and sponsorship activities", and: "A migrant worker, at the bottom rung of China's labour market, donated 600 yuan which amounted to his entire monthly salary."

And the Bible speaks of the poor widow who gave her entire wealth of two small copper coins, while a rich man gave alot of money, but relative to his total wealth was not much...
