Here we are - Summer 2009!

For this week's SFG challenge -- here's what I do to cool off on a hot summer day. Yesterday it was 106 degrees in Concord, CA!

New Experimental Illustrations

More fun experimenting with the new direction in my Illustrative style. Here are two, simple and similar illo's I did. One of them was already done, but since the new one resembled it so much, I figured why not bring it into Photoshop and add some texture to it.

Enjoy.

It depends on what your definition of "hot" is

They were just so "hot" they had to jump in the pool!

PS - I should mention that these where drawn by freeze framing a video, and then sketching from the TV set across the room. It allows me to pick any action and pose that I prefer. I'm currently working on a whole series of these, inspired by Glen Fabry's great book Muscles in Motion.

SFG: Hot!

Temperatures are rising, Summer is here. Swimming pools, barbeques and.. cold beer! As the mercury rises lets all give it a shot, the challenge this week is red...HOT!

All corniness aside, set aside some time this week to try out the latest challenge. Another broad challenge, open to a lot of varying interpretation.

Above all else, enjoy yourselves!

The SFG Challenge was created to challenge every member to stretch their creative muscles, venture outside of their artistic boundaries and post their interpretations each week on a specific theme. You are enthusiastically encouraged to participate! Don't forget to label your posts!

My Store Is Open

Finally. It only took me five years but it has happened. My store is finally open. In fact, someone discovered it while I was in the middle of getting it ready and they actually bought five prints. There are a lot of things for sale. Many beautiful prints of my famous drawings. Each is embossed, then stamped with my Korean chop, signed and numbered. Also there are some originals for sale too. Everything is very reasonably priced. I believe in affordable art for the people. Please check back occasionally because I will be putting up new artwork on a frequent basis. All my work looks great framed and matted. Don't be afraid to give one as a gift. Your friends and family will think you are a high roller, when in fact you are a cheapskate. Don't be afraid to just browse. You can just go to my blog and click on the store button. It's right under the squirrel holding a handgun. When you are at my blog check out my new header. It was created by a brilliant intern working at my ad agency. If you are impatient and can't wait you can go directly to my new store.

Placards Kill! - *New Store + Contest*

This is my menacing street placard. A friend of mine who manages a travel agency was scolded by a city worker who told her she needed a permit for her street placard. His reasoning was that, people get hurt and die. I laughed when she told me this. I wondered how paying for a permit could prevent street placard deaths.

***In other news, this print is now available for purchase in my store. However, that's not the fun part! The fun part is, is that I'm having a contest! Sign up for the quarterly newsletter and you'll be entered to win 1 of 3 prints!

Winners will be drawn on August 1, 2009

Best of Luck!

Some illustrations I made for Dokadi children's magazine, published by Averbode. End of this year. More from these series on Flickr.

Ink & Mess at Carnival of Darkness

I have been asked to show some masks as part of the rather exciting Carnival of Darkness Festival in California. Carnival of Darkness is the creation of Alex Bram and Leah Ann Cevoli, "showcasing the very best new work from independent horror filmmakers around the world. Carnival of Darkness will culminate in a one hour panel discussion featuring Godhead guitarist Jason C. Miller and Buffy/Angel darling Juliet Landau."

The masks below will be shown by Alex Bram during the panel discussion. If you're going to be in California at the time of the festival, you should definitely book in advance. Although I wish I was going cause it's going to be aces, I'll be in Edinburgh for August, doing many fun illustration things...more on that later!

By Gelfing hand, or else by none."

This is my first post in this great blog! I´m really happy shareing with the sugar community these works that I think are representative of what I try to offer in a piece of illustration.
A big hug!

Wilhelm the Flying Whale

Here is a new illustration I did recently.
I also have a little story that I wrote for it:
In Wangerland, a small town in Northern Germany, there is talk of a dark shadow in the sky. It is said to be larger than any structure known to man. They call this shadow Wilhelm the flying whale. It is believed that Wilhelm in an attempt to get away from whalers swam so hard and so fast that he went through the earth, flying into the sky on the other side. Unable to return to the oceans Wilhelm haunts the sky and brings darkness to any land he passes.
Hope you like it!
More new work on my site!
Cheers!

Shop Coming Soon

I just wanted to say that I have been working on putting up a store. I'm getting very close. There will be prints for sale at a very reasonable cost. I believe in affordable artwork for the masses. There will be lots to choose from. I also plan to sell original drawings at a very low cost. After it opens you can check back frequently to see if new items are added. It is coming soon so be on the lookout for a post announcing the actual opening date. Thanks.
