Not busy...just lazy...

Well actually I am a little busy (having the day off tomorrow, so need to get some shit done), but the real truth is that I am far too lazy to write anything of significant length...

Here's a fresh new track from 80's inspired synth-pop duo New Arcades. As usual it sounds fine and all that, but still waiting for them to hit that home run.

To any diehard fan of Richard Hawley (like me) the debut album Softly, Softly by Sheffield band The Hosts should be just perfect (to me it most certainly is)! Gave it three spins yesterday and it pretty much blew me away!

Not really music related in any way, but thought I'd share that last night I finished reading Hundraåringen som klev ut genom fönstret och försvann (The Hundred-Year-Old Man Who Climbed Out the Window and Disappeared) by Swedish author Jonas Jonasson. Why worth sharing? Because it's arguably the funniest book I've ever read!

My inbox tells me that SXSW is coming up...checking...sure enough!

Everything I've heard so far from Norwegians Making Marks has been just lovely, so seriously need to check out the debut album A Thousand Half-Truths...they'd be a pretty good fit for Copenhagen Popfest too, me thinks!

In need of a healthy dose of vitamin D? Then check out this wonderful and very summerly video by Adrian Sieber for Hurts So Good...reminds me that we haven't booked (or even planned) a holiday for this summer! Italy perhaps?

SXSW vs. Rome...

Not exactly breaking news that I won't be going to SXSW this year...either! I really wish I was (like I always do), because that way the hundreds of emails coming my way promotion various showcases at said festival could perhaps be of some use. Instead I've spent the past 6 months preparing for a Marathon, so on Friday March 16 I'll be flying to Rome (that's the capital of Italy, if you somehow ignorantly thought I was thinking of any of the American equivalents) instead of Austin, where we on Sunday March 18 will run the 42.195 kms (or 26 miles 385 yards) in hopefully less than 4 hours. As stupid as you may think I am, I actually prefer the Marathon to the SXSW, as it's probably better for your general health with far less junkfood and beers being consumed. But if (and that's quite a big IF to be honest) I was going to the festival, I would probably try to catch shows by these artists (or at least by some of them)...

+ Bear in Heaven - The Reflection Of You
+ The Drums - Money
+ I Got You On Tape - Chuch of the Real

People will probably have a ball no matter what, but so far I'm slightly underwhelmed by the line-up/schedule...will give it another look!

+ A Classic Education - Baby, It's Fine

Bits and...bits...

Mails, mails, mails. It’s the same old story. And with SXSW just around the corner it’s perhaps worse than ever (takes some imagination I know, but it's true). Lots of people wanting to meet and say hi in Austin, but sadly no mail so far has included a plane ticket etc. So as much as I’d love to go, it just ain’t gonna happen!!

Grab new track The Bigger Picture by The Floor Is Made Of Lava in exchange for your email address. The move towards a more "classic rock sound" continues and I quite like it!

Don't forget to enter the "Ceremony" contest!

Whence this sudden interest? Recording cover versions of The Raveonettes songs seems to be the new black! Two popped up last week and here's another one. Does this imply that the Danish duo is about to become mega?
+ Suckers - Boys Who Rape (The Raveonettes Cover)

Danish label music for dreams has mailed this track from the Giana Factory debut EP Bloody Game to post and share. Some remixes in the mail as well, but quite typical me ignoring those (unlike a few other bloggers). Is this a sign of an album being in the making? Let's hope so!
+ Trippin'

No rules without exceptions. One of the (many) SXSW related mail included this fairly decent Caribou remix of Oh No Ono's Eleanor Speaks.
+ Eleanor Speaks (Caribou remix)

It's now possible to order the self-titled No Blood In Bones EP. Vinyl and download.
+ Safe Way Out

This and that...

I’m honestly happy for all the bands announcing that they’ll be playing at SXSW in March. Even think it’s quite understandable that they fill up my inbox with messages telling me this. Obviously it’s easy being excited as a band, when something like this happens. But when the bands start asking if we should meet or hope that I will consider them for any showcases I might be hosting, things start getting slightly ridiculous, as the obviously haven’t read a single word I’ve been writing. Then they’d know that I’m 40, married, a father of two small children and living in Denmark. What are the chances exactly that I will be in Austin in March?

In my New Year’s post I vowed that I would continue writing about bands that you’ve probably never heard of. One of those bands could be impressive new Danish rock trio The Minor Collective, which has just published three tracks. Don't be surprised if these guys pop up in some future post.

Like everyone else, I’ve decided to jump on the Loney, Dear bandwagon. Listened to the 2007 album Loney, Noir numerous times yesterday, which then made me order the forthcoming album Dear John. Gorgeous stuff!

Hate this. Promo track Like Lunatics from the Modern Skirts album All Of Us In Our Night was dreamy and beautiful, so I asked for (and immediately received) a download copy of the album to hear if the rest was equally great. Sadly the album (a few tracks aside) is rather uninteresting, and certainly not what I hoped for. But nonetheless please give Like Lunatics a good listen.
