Please don't think I'm silly

but I have a question.  And I know there is no such thing as a stupid question, but....

Is there any "color" generally thought to represent Ramadan/Eid?  Like, Christmas is red and green, Halloween is black and orange, Easter is all pastels, Valentine's Day is pink and red....  Eid is...????  It's driving me crazy.  I'm trying to make decorations and such to decorate our house so our son can have some Ramadan traditions, but I'm not sure what color to make things?  Ranoon.com has lovely decorations for sale, and they seem to be themed around red and gold and green and gold...is this simply the creator's preference?

If there are no 'official' colors of Ramadan, I may make the colors at my house deep blue and gold, kind of like the night sky since the moon is kind of the symbol or Ramadan.  I think they would be pretty together.

In other news, I'm trying to get my Muslimah paperdolls done in order to be sold in time for Ramadan/Eid.  Unfortunately, my parents printer hates me so whether I'm done or not, I would not be able to print them here.  :(  I think they're cute.  And I'd like to share them, but alas, another setback.  They are hand drawn and colored (the originals, I would then color copy them to sell) so I'd like to think that the imperfections only add to their value...hmmm.  I don't do the whole computer illustrating thing. So far I have four girls with different skin tones and hair, etc.  There will then be four sheets of outfits, each sheet with 3 outfits.  An abaya set, a maxi (dress and skirt) set, a tunic set, and an "occasion" set which is tentatively set to have a Muslim swimsuit, wedding gown, and prayer garment.  I'm hoping to offer them as one girl with one set of clothes or the whole set of 4 girls and 12 outfits.  What do you think?  Would you consider buying them for a little Muslimah in your life?

Does Anyone Want

to buy my old slutty prom dress?

Yeah.  Didn't think so.

A friend offered to buy it for a military ball she's attending in November.  I was sooo excited to be getting $100 even if the dress cost almost $400 initially.  But her husband said it was too expensive.

Problem is, would a 2006 prom dress even still be in style?  Should I just give it to her for less to have some cash and get it off my hands?  Hmmm.  It's a ridiculous dress.  I loooooved it my senior year, but now I wish I had bought something more classic that I could potentially wear again.  Nope.  Pink frills.  Long train.  High slit.  laced (as in lace up, not made of lace) back, strapless, sheer bodice, boned corset, beads, sequins, embroidery.....  it was like every idea that ever popped into a dress makers head was thrown into this one dress.  I can't believe my parents bought it for me.

My friend apparently thinks it is the perfect dress to wear in Vegas (and she's probably right).  She's pregnant, due in Sept. and thinks she can wear a size 6 boned (sheer, as in see through) corset strapless gown in November.  Wishful thinking?  Eh, I'm not going to tell her if there's still a possibility of selling this thing.  My parents said not to take less than $100, but I've already lowered it to $90.  At one point I thought to keep it for sentimental reasons, but now I could use the money, and I don't really think my husband enjoys the reminder of my "romantic" evening with another guy.  (and no, my prom experience was not particularly romantic, but it does not matter to hubby)

What do you think?  A dress originally $340-390 (I don't remember exactly), worn twice and hanging ever since (never smashed into a box or stuffed in a closet) selling for $90? Should I just forget my friend (not rudely, as in tell her I cannot lower the price further) and try on ebay?  I doubt it would sell with prom season over.  It's not really a good pageant dress.

Ugh.  Why am I blogging about this?  I'm not sure.  Just talking to myself, I guess.

Etsy Update

If I ever stop making things for myself and my family members/friends...I may have something to sell one day.  I haven't given up yet.  Insha'Allah by Ramadan 2012 I will have a shop up and running (and stocked).

I

miss my husband.  And have had about enough of living under my parent's expectations, er, roof.

My trip to visit him was absolutely lovely. Out of the routine we've fallen into, freed of our parenting duties, it was like a much-needed second honeymoon.  I don't believe I could possibly love him more than I do right now.

Alhumdullilah, Allah has blessed me with a kind, caring, compassionate, intelligent, (and extremely handsome) husband.

I've gone overboard...

with this Etsy idea.  It started as just wanting to sell Ramadan advent calendars and since then I've taken off on numerous new ideas of things to "sell."  In reality, I'm spending a bunch of money on supplies, starting a project, researching a new one, setting the old project aside, starting the new one, setting it aside...in a big repeating chain of events.  Currently I have started:  1 crochet baby blanket (almost complete), a recycled crayon project (huge mess...), 1 Ramadan advent calendar (for my son) probably won't even be complete by this Ramadan the rate I'm going, 6 completed crocheted kitchen towels (but all have been given away as gifts), 1 embroidered dishtowel (for myself, has mine and my husband's names in Arabic inside of a heart), 1 Arabic/Islamic stationery set, AND an Islamic cross stitch that so far I've resigned myself from beginning until something else is completed.  In addition to all of the above, I have plans for numerous other things that I'd like to try my hand at making, and am continuing my weekly sewing classes.

So now you see why the blog has been a bit neglected.  I have seriously taken off with this and RUN, but now I think perhaps I should slow down and focus on just a few things.  If I don't, I'll never have enough of any one item in stock to have an actual, reliable store going.  :/  I just love learning new things, but then once I've got a VERY basic mastery, I get restless and move on to something else.  Oy.

Flying

So I'm supposed to fly on a plane, for the first time EVER, next Friday to go see my husband.  It's a 2 hour nonstop flight so I figure it's a good one to start with.  We can't really afford it but we haven't seen each other in a month so...  we'll make it work?  I'm a bit down because I just checked airline prices.  We can't buy the tickets until Friday (payday), but the tickets are already about $100 more than when I checked on Wednesday.  For the EXACT same flights, of course.  Grr.

I can't wait to see him, though.  <3  My second flight EVER will follow soon after on Sunday.  My dad's a bit down about me missing Father's Day, but he understands I've got something (weddings and showers coming out of my ears) every other weekend.

Insha'Allah all goes smoothly with the planning, flying, and babysitting (my parents have our son for the 3 days).  Ameen.
