Going back to December of 2005... I had just graduated from TCU with my BS in Engineering.
It was always my dream to work for one of the "Big Three" automotive companies in Detroit. I always assumed that I would work for GM, because I wanted to buy myself a Corvette and thought that I would get a better discount if I worked for the company, ha! What crazy logic. Well it turns out that God had something else in store for me. When I was at the Society of Women Engineers National Conference in the Fall of 2005, I got my first interview with Ford Motor Company. Chrysler and GM were in the middle of a hiring freeze at the time and were not even conducting interviews. To my surprise, Ford liked me enough to fly me up to Michigan for a second interview. I did everything that I could to prepare for that interview because I wanted the job so bad. Long story short, I got the job! I had zero hesitation about taking a job in a scary city where I didn't know a single person. It was the right thing for me, and I just knew it. I have known it all my life.
So I packed up and left Texas to move to Michigan and take the job with Ford Motor Company in May of 2006. From there, it has just been one good thing after another, and life just keeps on getting better. I cannot even believe that I have been here for 5 whole years! There were definitely some difficult times after moving to a city far away from home, but looking back on it, I needed that change in my life. It helped me grow as a person. I got used to hanging out with myself pretty quickly. It was my first time living alone, and completely off daddy's payroll. =)
I met Steve (who also happens to work at Ford, in the same department as I do) in the early months of 2007 while we both were on temporary work assignments in Phoenix, AZ. We didn't start dating right away, just emailing, texting, flirting, and building a friendship. We went on our first official date August 2nd, 2007. Two years later, he took me back to the same restaurant where we went on our first date and asked me to be his wife (June 2009). I love him with all of my heart, and was happy to accept the proposal. We set a date for the wedding (May 2010), and then immediately started planning the honeymoon, haha. I didn't realize that two people could get along so well, and make each other so happy. I am so very thankful for such an amazing loving husband.
Icing on the cake... we are expecting a baby girl in August =)
I am having so much fun getting ready for her arrival, and we are so excited to meet her. I hope/plan to blog more frequently about all of our experiences along the way as we welcome another member into our little family.
So many other exciting things that have taken place in the past 5 years...
- Bought a house in February of 2009.
- Became an aunt in October of 2010.
- Bought and have fully paid for my first vehicle on my own, my awesome Ford Explorer, which I still love to this day.
- Vacations - Vegas, Hawaii, cruise to Bermuda, London (first time overseas for both Steve and me), road trips - Ottawa Canada, the UP (upper peninsula) of Michigan.
- Got to live in downtown Chicago for 6 months on a temporary work assignment.
- Taking up golf again (Steve and I play in a league together and really enjoy the sport)
- Shelby went to doggie heaven. She was the most awesome and loving black lab in the world. I miss her.
- Adopting our dog Rocky. A spunky lab/pit mix who brings so much joy and happiness to our lives.
- Many friends and family getting married and having babies.
- Building new friendships.
- Lots of work on the house (ongoing). Including a fully remodeled kitchen (LOVE!), which has opened up my world of cooking. I think my cooking spree in the past 6 months is part of my "nesting" to get ready for the baby. I have even taken some awesome cooking classes.
- Fulfilled a lifelong goal of working in the auto racing industry - glad I got that one out of my system. It was an amazing experience, and I got to travel all over the states and work with NHRA (mostly John Force Racing) and NASCAR (Wood Brothers Racing), but a way different lifestyle than what I want for myself now.
All in the past 5 years!!
I hope I didn't forget to include anything.
