Guess who?
That's my daughter! Well, it's my husband, but it looks JUST LIKE my daughter -- hair, nose, smile, mannerisms, expressions. Eeeeeeeeeerie.

Stella Dot's hearing loss
We've had a couple people contact us since we sent the picture of Stella Dot getting the mold for her hearing aid yesterday. So I wrote up a little something in response to one of those inquiries, and I'm posting it here for everybody to read. Thanks for your kind notes and thoughts.

We didn't realize anything either. It was the school district's hearing screening that they perform on all kindergartners that picked it up. I don't know if you remember that she was having some anxiety last year? We think now that wasn't anxiety at all but that it was related to her hearing.
The doctor and nurses were surprised at how well she has been able to mask any symptoms of the hearing loss. Moving from low to high frequencies, her hearing loss increases dramatically to the point where at the highest frequencies she has severe hearing loss. But because her left ear has 100% normal hearing, it is easier to function as a child because so much of your life is interactive. They said that when you get older and school becomes more lecture-based, hearing loss is much more obvious. Although the "s" sound and "th" sound both occur in the high frequencies, no one has been able to tell us if her lisp is connected to the hearing loss.
Anyway, she can barely tell a difference. She insists that she can hear just fine. And yesterday she got to choose what color her hearing aid will be. In case you're wondering it will be blue, purple, and red. No hiding that behind her blond blond hair!
She was such a trooper, too, yesterday. The CT scan tech even went in search of and gave her a special teddy bear because she did such a good job.
Then she had to have the mold of her ear done later in the day. By the time we got back in the car you could see she was exhausted from just keeping it all together. And even before we got home she had fallen asleep. Poor little thing.
As long as she doesn't lose the hearing aid once we get it, it'll be great. If she does lose it, though, we may have to take out a second mortgage on the house. š

Grant and Stella Dot are having a father daughter weekend. But apparently mommy is there in spirit. So is the dog.
