Tip of the week: How to paint small items without getting all your fingers inked!

Hello My painter friends:

It's being a while since I have not shared one of my "tips of the week"...
so here we go...this one is a simple but effective one...for all the painters out there!!!

How to paint small items
without getting all your fingers inked?

Place a double sided tape on your mat, adhere the items on top of this (see orange arrows) take a brush and PAINT !!
It's that simple....
Now I do not get my fingers all inked.
I leave the item there to dry and voilà!

Note: this tip can work with any other medium that you wish to use such as: ink pads, inked sponge daubers; misters, colored embossing pastes, dye or pigments re-inkers etc etc...anything that you want to color

I used "DecoArt Americana" acrylic paints to paint these items...because these will go into my much anticipated  " Wood Halloween House"...
I will soon have it all ready to show it to you!...
You do not want to missed it,  it is really stinking cute!!!....

Tip of the Week: How to know if a certain color will work on a painting project

Hello My dear Crafter friends:

Here we go with a quick, simple but very effective tip!

The tip for this week is:
How to know if a certain color will match your project...

place a color on an acetate sheet and over your project...
and decide!

tip paint on acetate to see if a color works on a painting

Place a drop of that color paint on a clear acetate ( this is a good recycling tip as well)

tip paint on acetate to see if a color works on a painting

My acetate comes from the packaging of craft products...
I die cut mine to make them to look like bookmarks, and give them as gifts to my fellow painters  friends...

Place the acetate over the painting, and see if that works or not...

In my case I did not like the red so I left it that way...without a red flower...
In another post I will revel to you what is that painting project, still working on it!

remember to clean your acetate !!! for future uses...

thanks for the visit, have a wonderful day
hoping that this tip will help you...
let me know how would you plan to use this one!!!

Tip of The Week: how to ease "crafter's" pains

hello My dear Crafty Friends;

The tip of the week is how to help to ease the pain when having pain in your arms and wrists...due to arthritis, repetitive stress injury, swelling of your thumbs, carpal tunnel syndrome etc  specially while crafting repeatedly,  blogging constantly or doing other repetitive activities ..

creative comfort items

I have being getting for several years now this recurrent health problem..."Tendinitis"

"Tendinitis" or "Tendonitis" is the inflammation of the tendons generally in the upper and lower limbs...and we crafter's have a tendency to suffer from this ailment since we tend to use repeatedly our hands...

As for me, My problem, began when I started working on the computer for long periods of time...It became so serious that I  had to stop working for a while, then had to go for several months to physical therapy... with time it got better but it never quits me though!
and with my blogging and crafting now,   I have to be extra careful and I implement these little "helps" to ease my pains...

So, Now every time that I use my big computer with the mouse I place this wrist rest...

Ice is a real good thing to use when having lots of pain, so I sew one wash cloth and made a small cover for my soft gel ice pack and I placed it under my arm...

When using my laptop, I use my glove cover, which is reversible and comes in different sizes and  I place the ice pack underneath...
The glove is filled with ergo-beads and  has a removable plate to maintain strait and in a correct position the wrist...

And lastly I use this elbow band that supports my strained forearms...

Besides using these items, of course I have to stop and take many breaks, make my exercises,  improve my posture and ... sometimes unfortunately when it is too painful seek for medication and I am good to blog and craft for many hours !!!...

remember these are just suggestions,  I am not a doctor and I do not intend to give you any kind of miracle remedy, this is just something that works for me...and maybe for you too!

and this is why I choose my "creative comfort" items
to be the tip of the week...

Tip of the week...Flower Pin in Glue Caps to prevent clogs

Hello My Dear Stamper Friends:

The tip of the week is for preventing your glues from clogging...
by inserting a pin on the cap

But you can decorate your pin as well
with a cute silk flower or a Butterfly...

You can insert as well the pin through the cap and have the glue all the time sealed...but I am using them so constantly that I do not even put the cap anymore just the Flower Pin...

I used silk flowers that I cut from the bunch,
-some long pins (thin ones), that you will insert from the top, (on the middle of the flower)

- some jewelry beads for the base of the flower ("crystal spacer beads")
- and all glued with the heat glue gun..

and have at your desk  all your favorite glues decorating your area...

Tip of the Week...How to Clean your Stencils!

Hello my Dear Stamper Friends:

Today, I would like to share with you how I clean my Stencils...
If you are like me ...that I like to have my supplies "Clean"...well this tip is for you!

I know there a lot of people who don't care to have them "stained, " which is Ok too...
it is just a matter of preference!...
Your stencils will work just fine as long as you are using only inks or paints...

Very simple: use any type of FLAT surface to place your stencil, it can be any tray...I use a baking sheet. This is important as the stencil remains flat and you will NOT ruin any of the design...
Tilt your tray, scrub it with a fingernail brush very gently with MILD HAND SOAP and run it through WATER and that's it!

Updated on May 2014:
NOTE: When you are at your Desk  (not near a sink) , clean the stencils with baby wipes..then take them to the sink and do the step explained above!

If you want to get rid of tough stains:

I used my stencil with a "Magenta" color, an acrylic "Golden" paint and the stencil looked like this after finishing my project...the hand soap did NOT took care of the stains.

So I rubbed "Stazon " cleaner with my fingernail brush on the tray, then run it through water and here it is the result...

After this step,   I used mild hand soap to get rid of the chemicals from the "Stazon cleaner", (which it is a very "Strong" chemical and not advisable to leave it on any surface)...and Voilà!
Almost as new...although my fingernail brush absorbed the color and stayed all stained :) , this paint was very strong...!!!

Updated on May 2014:
if you forget to clean them and the stain is DRY.
Here I used "Viva Inka Gold" metallic rub and I forgot to clean it...
The "before" with the stains dried

clean it with "Stazon"...(this cleaning step will works as well if you use "Archival Inks", specially when using Black...clean the stencil with "Stazon" and it will look almost as new!
The "after" result

As I said earlier if you do not care for stains, you can leave them like that and this will NOT ruin the results of your stencil designs... BUT

IMPORTANT: the only time that you MUST clean your stencils, if you want to re-use them is when you are using glues or molding pastes...if you do not clean them right away these products will ruin your stencils...so use the steps from above...

*Remember to DRY them as well:

place them flat on a paper towel, roll on top of them, the whole roll of paper and they will be ready for your next use

OK my friends, hope all is well and see you soon
