Reminders and thoughts

We are coming to the end of the June holidays. I believe that most of you have rested well and ready to continue the journey to pursue your aims of achieving better results in semester 2. Of course, let's not forget that this semester, you will be taking your GCE O level exam for your triple sciences. Besides this, I have a few things to inform all of you:

Firstly, I would like to remind all of you, on behalf of Mdm Ong, that you will be having Maths extra lesson on the 20 June 2008. Attendance is compulsory and she expects full attendance. If you have any doubts about attending holiday lessons, please refer to my previous post.

Secondly, as you know you will have a new timetable for semester 2. On the 23 June 2008 (Mon), you will be given the new timetable. However, the new timetable will only take effect from 24 Jun (Tues) onwards. Therefore, we will follow the old timetable on Monday. Please bring the necessary books for lessons on Monday.

Thirdly, the Social Studies and elective projects will be due soon. Please get ready to submit. The presentation schedule will be given on the first SS and elective period on week 1.

Ok, now I would like to share an interesting information with all of you. Recently, there has been a lot of discussion about "freedom of speech". Seriously, many of us have a misconception of what freedom of speech truly is. At this juncture, I would like to share a website that will help us to have a better understanding of what "freedom of speech" truly means. As this is important, I would like all of you to read it and be prepare to discuss this article during the EL or VE lesson on 23 June 2008. Hopefully, true this discussion, we will be a more informed person. The website is http://plato.stanford.edu/entries/freedom-speech/. At the lesson, I would like you to discuss the following questions:

1. What is freedom of speech to you before you read this article?
2. How have the reading of this article change the way you think about freedom of speech?
3. How can we practice the freedom of speech with due respect to everyone?

I think there will be an interesting discussion on 23 June 2008. Do read up and think through my questions.

Attendance for Holiday Lessons

It is imperative that all of you attend all lessons that are planned for you during the holidays. Teachers have sacrificed their holidays to conduct extra lessons to help you improve your results for CT2 and EOY Exams. In the event that you cannot turn up for lesson and know it way in advance, it is only polite and responsible of you to inform the teacher straight away and seek for permission to miss the class. If you are sick on the day of lesson, you should call the school or inform your buddy or partner of your absence. We must all learn to be responsible people.

One should not absent the class blatantly and expect the teacher to find out why you are absent. This is an irresponsible act unexpected of a student of 3EA.

I hope in future, I would not have to post such an annoucement for the class.

Meanwhile, study hard, rest well and see you when school reopens.
