Its For the Birds Blog Hop--Day 4

Miss Z at 7 months old
If You can't tell by the name of my blog I love birds, especially sparrows!  Last year I turned a blouse pattern into a nightgown for my daughter and it worked out great!  Recently, Miss Z has gone through a large growth spurt and I felt it was time to makes more nightgowns so I turned once again to my yardage of birdy fabrics.  This time however I went with a different blouse pattern to convert!

I used I think Sew's Ella Raglan Blouse Pattern, I chose the Next size up from her current size and then I added about 4 inches.  It comes down to her ankles, but it will be up to her knees before too long!  I have two more of the exact nightgown in process only I plan to use a different colored biased tape where you see Pink.

Ready for bedtime in her new nightgown!
The following is not a newly finished project but I love the little birds from this line of fabric from Connecting threads!   I am hoping to get a little bit of yardage of the birdie print to make Miss Z some simple tops for this fall as it is still pretty warm here.

Finishes 35: Back in the Saddle Again...

Before Ziona was born we received a lot of clothing up to 24 months at baby showers.  I also was given clothing from friends that had children out-growing clothes, so I thought I would have some time to leisurely come up with larger clothes that I would of course make myself.  I mean seriously what is cuter than making little girl dresses?  I decided that I need to make a night gown first.  I adapted an Oliver + S Pattern that I bought off digital download from a blouse into a sort of nightgown/dress.  I have a review that will be posted next week about my thoughts on this pattern.  I used flannel, which I totally forgot that I hate sewing with because it causes drag and takes double the time, so I am also planning to make the actual shirt in regular cotton too.  The white plastic buttons on the back are from my Great-grandmother's stash, which places them sometime before I was born.  I also had some Jet buttons, but I thought that just might not be right for a baby nightgown.  Even with the drag of using flannel this project was completed in one day; in fact just in time to put her to sleep in it.

I started making blocks for the Leafs Me Happy Blog Hop and actually found a pattern that they would incorporate into a full quilt perfectly!  I decided to get it finished up for the fall fundraiser at my church's school.  I decided to show my finished quilt because I am sure that I will have many more leafy projects coming along.  Afterall, Fall is my favorite time of year and of course also my favorite fabric!  Last month for Friday Night Sew-in I ended up winning a charm pack of my favorite fabric designer, Sandy Gervais' Phenomenal Fall.

My last thing to share is my posting for the Bowls with Borders Blog Hop project.  I was so excited because I got chosen for one of the top two projects for that day!  I have this wall hanging in my kitchen and it just cheers me up every time I see it.  I still have two Large project Squares that I haven't decided on what I shall to with them.  What do you think I should do?  I am also in the middle of several quilts that I hope to get further on tomorrow while my Husband is at class.  Baby Girl and I hang out and I ask her what she thinks of things.  Sometimes she does seem to prefer one fabric over another when I ask her which she likes.

Well I am back form my break.  I have several tutorials that I have promised in the past that I will get set-up to post one a week.  I am signed up for a couple blog-hops on Sew We Quilt, and I have fire under me to get my WIP list completed at a faster rate than I am adding things to it!  Thank all of those who sent me messages that they were praying and thinking of me and my family.  I am sad, but Life goes on, I have Ziona to care for and so I cannot dwell in my grief forever.  It does help to get things done and have something else to focus on.  And so I am off to play my computer game with some friends from around the world, don't you love technology?  See you all later!

Are you already thinking of projects you want to get completed for gifts or perhaps decor for the holiday season?  This will the first year we will pull out all our Winter/Christmas Decor.  Plus it's Ziona's first Christmas, so much planning to do!  After 8 years of marriage we are thinking of finally buying a Christmas tree larger than 4" and with a little more room underneath!

Table Topper Blog Hop: Mini-Quilt

There is the sound of faint music and creaking from the livingroom as I write this post from the bedroom.  Baby Girl is happily sleeping in her swing (thus the subtle creak) after a volley of cute smiles and hysterics intermittently as she still is recovering from her 2-month check-up (and shots).  Thankfully she is quite an easy-going and delightful child who normally coos, smiles, and sleeps through the night (a good 7 to 11 hours a stretch)!  I cannot believe how much there is to do daily to care for her and how much all other things seem to fade away in light of that.

Unfortunately last week I had a horrifying thing happen:  I realized that I had not checked email for quite a few days.  Once something that I checked about a dozen times a day now seems to never come to mind.  My eyes bulged out of my head as the numbers climbed ever higher as the messages were downloaded to my computer (378 messages)  including a few comments wondering where my mini-quilt post was!  Oh No!  I am very sorry to be late to the party but thankfully Mdm. Samm has allowed me admittance to blog hop. Now that I have a few plump black birds to eat, I shall get on with sharing my mini-quilt!

I really enjoyed making this mini-quilt as it gave me something to do while I had been waiting to have Baby Girl!  From the moment Madame Samm, at Sew We Quilt, started talking about this last year I felt like this was something I really wanted to do (plus I had been looking for a reason to buy a table-topper stand).  The colours chosen were in mind of the originally plan of posting in the month of February with the colors of Red, white, and Pink.  To be honest I did not have any Valentine's Day decorations so I plan to bring this out next year, and hopefully be inspired to make some other items to go along side of it.

I went with the Biblical "Fruits of the Spirit" using the terms I have on a set silver bracelets I wear.  I took some "crums" of left over bits and sewed them together to make a "fabric" of sorts, traced the "love" backwards on the back of the fusible paper for the word Love in the middle (I used the left over "fabric" to make the red coasters for the Colour My World Challenge).

I am rather new in the department of FMQ stitches, but I wanted so much to capture Leah Day's Heart Stitch around the letters.  Have you tried any particular FMQ stitches that you like to use?  I normally just use the generic "meander" stitch myself.

Here is a shot of the back of the mini-Quilt.  I added a bit of fabric on the back to make a place to slip onto the Stand, but I also like the idea that I have seen through this Blog Hop of adding it with clothing pins.

Thank you all for stopping by my Blog as part of the Table Topper Blog Hop.  For those who who stopped by random or by following me, please meander over to Sew We Quilt to check out all of the projects that are a part of the Blog Hop!
