DISCLAIMER: If you want to read way too much and look at more pictures of me and hubby than you probably care to….proceed. Also, lets come up with a better way to upload photos mmmk?:)
I think this trip was so much fun because the entire thing was so spontaneous! I mean sure, we were planning to take a cool vaca to Can Cun but we had never been to Hawaii! There was so much to do and explore! The first few days we were there, we basically drove up to the north and down to the south exploring and stopping like every 5 minutes to check out the sights or jump in to snorkel. We were lucky enough to be staying with my parents in their time share condo which was the east side right in the middle of the island, so we spent plenty of time in the Northern rainy hiking side and plenty in the Southern sunny snorkeling side. On Halloween we took a catamaran ride along the Na’pali Coast line which is the west side of the Island which is incredibly mountainous, so you cant drive it. The only way to see it is to take a boat, hike the 11 miles, or helicopter. Heli was out of the question seeing as while we were there one crashed killing 4 passengers and the pilot but also, 2 people died on the hike which we still did. It’s a dangerous Island! No I’m kidding, but you do have to be very cautious. They have the most deadly beach in the U.S. and very high swells this time of year and very slick trails. I swear I came out with more bumps and bruises than I’ve had in my whole life. Worth every single one! Ok back to the boat ride. This was mine and Stephens favorite day. They took us snorkeling and toured us around the Island, viewing it from the water was completely mesmerizing…I couldn’t stop saying, “WOW” and the crew made it super fun too. They played cheesy Hawaiian music which us tourists ate up! We loved it. We had dolphins swim along side us, and sea turtles and flying fish. I kept saying, “this is the life I was meant to live” I did not want to ever leave that catamaran! Its amazing how many movies were filmed there, Jarasic Park is a big one and just go with it and soul surfer….these are recent ones because they are the ones I recognized but they named like 20 movies filmed there. After that we drove up the canyon to the look out and it was cold up there! But very cool. It was like a lush grand canyon. The next day was our Hike of the Na’pali coast, called the kalalau trail or as I lovingly refer to it the kill me nowa trail. First half of the hike, I loved. It was gorgeous. Challenging of course, it rained but all in all I just couldn’t believe we were there doing this. It was spectacular. As I said before the hike is 11 miles, 2 miles to secret beach, 4 to secret waterfalls, 6 to a camp site then 11 to the Kalalau Valley. We chose, at first, to go as far as the waterfall. But as we were hiking in talking with people, we realized the beach would be all the further we could get. You have to cross a stream and it was too high apparently. And it poured rain 5 or 6 different times on us, it was still warm and fun, the rain just made it more slippery. Its not mud its like a clay and it is SLICK! Plus I swear its like an old river bed, its so rocky and steep. Dad fell straight on his tailbone and I fell on my hip/knee/ankle. It was brutal but nothing fatal we still finished the hike fine and I’m so glad my mom didn’t fall. The hike out seemed never ending, but was still great. You knew you were almost done when you saw people wearing clean shoes! We were ready for a nap after that one. 4 miles in about 4 hours…. Yeah! Not easy. Then we bummed around because of the rain, did a few small hikes and chased down a few waterfalls, ate at great restaurants and sat in the hot tub! Surfing is next! Holy moly I think I backed out 6 times but I knew I couldn’t come home saying I didn’t try surfing. I didn’t even think I would stand up, I was just going to go paddle around on the board. But the instructor grabbed my board and gave me a good shove and said “POP UP!” and I did and guess what? I rode that sucker all the way to the beach. OH YEAH! I was so proud, but I think my dad was prouder The lesson was an hour and a half, and I did great a long as he would shove me and tell me what to do, but then there was free time for an hour and I had to do it solo and that’s when I failed. I’m not so great on timing. I got up a few times but mainly just got rolled and thrown into the beach. Stephen and dad did great though, and mom had fun taking pictures and hangin on the beach. Our last and final day, we did a Zip and dip tour! They took us on a hike where we zip lined, and kayaked and swam in a waterfall. Another solid day of fun in Hawaii!! Stephen was totally impressed by my kayaking skills. Dad and I got super silly on the zip line, and it was a total blast. After that we had a delightful dinner and jumped on a plane to LAS VEGAS (to be continued….)
We had a most excellent time. We were bummed that our spanglish practice was wasted, but we picked up hawaiian lingo pretty quick, ya? haha mom and Stephen were amazed at how alike my dad and I really are, I guess I am too sometimes. I sure love that guy. I was so glad to be able to share this with my mom and dad and my sweet amazing Husband!! To many more adventures to come, Love. We are so blessed to have these fun trips and to work hard for them. I'm so grateful for a hard working husband. I love my family!
