Turkey Day
Had a good Turkey weekend. To start things off, it was really cold. We went to dinner on Wednesday night but almost wanted to cancel cause it felt too cold to be outdoors. We skipped the watching of the blowing up the Macy Parade Balloons cause we would have been too cold. So of course we had a decent evening of drinking. Met some new peeps from Cali...weird how being here, I'm meeting all these Cali people...and not just Cali people but Bay Area people. My Thursday wasn't very productive. I finally got to sleep in...felt nice. Then got up, watched some tv and then got ready to go to my friends place to make our turkey dinner. Wow, was her place nice. It's on the upper east side. She works for the Canadian Consolate and they subsidise her place...it's a 2 bedroom. Anyways, she's such a good cook too...it was her first time making a turkey but it turned out perfect. Nice and juicy. Then she made Mac & Cheese, cranberry sauce and stuffing. I only made mashed potatoes and put together the salad. But the meal was sooo good. After the dinner, we watched a movie, but it was hard to stay up from all the turkey we ate. Got home around 2.On friday, it was an even lazier day. My friends from my old job in the Bay Area came to visit and were showing up at 11pm. I slept in, watched tv and cleaned my apartment...oh and ran errands. Thank God Dim Sum is in Vancouver cause there was 5 of us in my little studio apartment. They showed up at 11pm and we went to a bar in lower east side...after we were finished with that bar we went to Meat Packing to drink at a few bars there and met up with one of my friends from work...long night...left the bars around 4:30 I think...not really sure. On Saturday, we spent the day walking around NYC. It was really nice cause I hadn't really walked around NYC that much either. We were so tired towards 5 that we had to stop for wine...then went home to rest...dinner wasn't until 10:30. We went to eat at Mercer's Kitchen...the food was ok, the service was good at the beginning and then faded and they sat us at the worst possible table...right by the kitchen. It was so damn hot in there, we were dying and had to ask for so much ice and water...made the meal very uncomfortable. Oh well...after dinner we went to BlueNote and watch a jazz show...it was really good but we were all so tired and ready to go to bed...and the show didn't let out till 3am. On Sunday, we just went to brunch, watched Dirty Rotten Scoundrels (it was really good), went to the top of Rockerfeller Centre, had dinner, went on the Staten Island Ferry and watched a movie at home. Another long day.Anyways, everyone left today and I think this weekend, I'm going to try to clean my apartment and do a lot of my xmas shopping. Should be fun! Not really...we'll see what happens.
New Work Issues
So I thought things were finally ok at work. Wasn't happy about not travelling internationally, but I finally let it go. Afterall, I've been wanting to be in NYC for a long time. But today...great. So I've been assigned on this one client with two of my friends. We've been here since November 14 and haven't gotten too much done. The client has been really nice, but they've just been really slow at getting things to us. This was the client that my Brazil trip got cancelled for since they knew that there was going to be issues here. So anyways, I was scheduled to be here until Dec 6, one of my friends was scheduled to be finished here tomorrow (and leave for Brazil), my other friend was scheduled to be finished here tomorrow and go to work at another place in NJ and this other girl (who hasn't been here all week but is in charge of the project) is only here next Monday and Tuesday. As the week was going by, we've been calling the in charge and letting her know that we're not getting the information in a timely manner. So here we are with very little information and not enough time to finish everything. My friend that is scheduled to go to NJ suggested that she didn't mind staying here. I don't know if she meant it, but I mentioned it to the team leader. After all, the team that she will be on in NJ is there with five people for two weeks. What do they need that many people for? So our team leader has told us that she will put a call in to try to get my friend to stay here for another week. Not a bad deal. So each day we're in conversations trying to fight for my friends time. They allowed her to come back to help for a Monday...what the hell is one day going to do for us? I guess it'll lessen my load by 12 hours but what the hell? Still not going to finish. So we talk to our team leader again...this time, she's starting to get worried. She puts in another call to request my friend to stay...but for some reason they don't want to let her go from the other location. Then we get a phone call in the afternoon from our team leader...BAD NEWS!!!! We only get my friend for the Monday like they have already told us...but worse yet...they pulled my other friend from the Brazil project to stay and help for another week! How stupid is that? He's already went and gotten shots ($700), a visa ($300) and prescriptions ($80) for the trip. I thought I was pissed about not going to Brazil but geez...if I was him, I'd have a fit. To top it off, he's going back to Cali for the long weekend and cancelled his return ticket back to NYC cause he decided to fly directly to Brazil from Cali...what a headache for him to rearrange all of his travel. See how he's not even that angry Can't believe how everything is so last minute and people just can't plan properly. This could have all been avoided if they had just let my friend stay here and not go to NJ.
Peru
So back from Peru...it was fun! It was nice to see a different culture...it was dirty, crowded and overall crazy. We had a lot of issues since it was such a big group of us but in the end, I'm glad I went. I didn't think I'd ever want to go back before I went but now that I've been, I really don't mind it. It was really good for me to see where I was from and what my life would have been like if my parents had stayed there. Thank God they left to Vancouver when they did. Good thing I didn't get sick. My sister, uncle and cousin all got sick from the food. Guess everyone is different and I tried to eat clean things so I wouldn't get sick. So I got back to NYC and I got bites all over...I think they are bed bugs. I was laughing at my sister cause she was complaining about bites when she was there and I never got any but now it's all over! Can't believe it. But it was so nice to be back and be able to shower with hot water that I knew would not turn cold and blow dry my hair with a normal hair dryer.
New Project at Work
So I started my new project at work at the beginning of November. Was all excited cause they presented it to us as international travel. I even went home Halloween weekend to drop off Dim Sum so that I could go internationally. Pissed me off now! Cause I find out that I'm working in NYC and that I dropped Dim Sum off for no reason...now she's in Vancouver and I'm here with out her. Then they told me that I get to go to Brazil after Thanksgiving and that same day that they told me (at the end of the day), they retracted it after I reserved my ticket for the trip. Sucks! Now I'm in NYC which really isn't so bad cause I really haven't been able to spend too much time here but I wish Dim Sum was here with me. I'll have to see how the rest of this assignment goes. I want to travel internationally!!!
