D.C. Adventures
Here are a few of the things I have been up to this summer in DC:
We hit the National Zoo after church yesterday. So HOT! Turns out middle of the afternoon - not the best time to see the animals. All the empty areas made us feel like we were in Jurassic Park ... this was just too fitting!
Hannah and I have been reading the Lost Symbol by Dan Brown, and are both trying see most the places in the book. Saturday we went the the Masonic Temple in Old Town Alexandria
Another place featured in the Lost Symbol is the Library of Congress. We took the tunnel from the Capitol Visitors Center over the the LOC, just like in the book! This is the reading room... amazing huh? We also got our official reader cards for the LOC.
Shannon, the awesome staff assistant in our office, got the interns a tour of the White House! I had to be there about 7am but it was worth it to say I've been to the White House.
It was awesome to be in D.C. for the 4th! We spent the day on the Capitol lawn saving spots for the festivities that night. Again it was SO HOT! (do you see a theme?) We had a big group that was lots of fun, a great view of the fireworks, and yes we even heard David Archuleta! (Nothing says America like an American Idol singing the National Anthem right?)
We hit Mt. Vernon a few weeks ago. It was so pretty impressive. At one point it was almost completely self sufficient! There is only a small part of the estate left today, but that 'small' part is huge! P.S. do you like Jeanette and I's matching bags? Yup I'm a trend setter! :)
Weekend trip to Jamestown & Williamsburg:Apparently the recreated Jamestown not in Jamestown. They are doing an archeological dig at the actual site, so they just built it somewhere else instead. Here are the roomies on one of the ships they have recreated.
Just chillin' in Williamsburg. They have reacreated an entire colonial town. Some of the reenactors even stay in the homes they've restored. We ate a tradition lunch there and even tried Virginia Ham... talk about salty!!
We went to Duck Beach (outer banks in NC) for Memorial Day weekend. Can I just say that I LOVE the beach!
