Romantic Country magazine brings all the shabby and cottage look into one beautiful group of pages. Each issue is just breathtaking and it's hard to put it down! I don't think you can buy a subscription yet but I will be first on their list when they offer that service.

Weird Thing About Me #3

My husband is a walker. He walks many miles everyday. I am so proud of him. He takes care of himself.

When he comes home, he takes two Gatorade bottles from the FREEZER that have turned to slush during his 1-1/2 hr. walk. One is for him and one is for me!! I look forward to that Gatorade drink - half frozen into a wonderful crunchy slush! It's my favorite part of the day to sit there with him and have this great treat.

Well, I was out with errands the other day and he didn't put one in the freezer for me. I HAD to have that time with him so I went to Sonic Drive-In and got myself a Diet Cherry Limeade - whose slush - is almost as good. Then I had my slushy with my darling husband. All was well with the world again.

Bye!

Maybe This is Weird Thing # 2 ???

I like being an adult because I can eat pizza or cookies or spaghetti or leftover shrimp or anything I want for breakfast and no one can stop me. :-)

Weird Thing about Me #1

A few blog posts back, I said I had been tagged and had to tell 7 weird things about me. Here is #1.

~~~Have you ever ordered a salad in a restaurant? Then when they bring it, it's a nice size all full of the things you like but it is stuffed into a really small bowl.......so if you want to put your salad dressing on it, how do you get the dressing to the parts underneath? Then, if you cut part of it, the lettuce falls out of the bowl. Ugh. The bowl is too SMALL!~~~
So, what I do now is ask for a larger bowl or plate to accompany my salad - even if I order a small salad. My husband says I am the only person he has ever known that cannot eat a salad stuffed into a small bowl...... I don't want to. I want a larger bowl. :-)
Watch the World from your Computer
I have discovered one of the best things on the internet. Cams and Live Video Cams. There are evidently hundreds and probably thousands of cameras all over the world and we have access to them on the internet!!
Some of the cameras take still shots and update at predetermined intervals. Some are live videos.
This is my favorite:
http://www.earthcam.com/usa/newyork/timessquare/
Someday, I plan to go to this camera and have friends meet me there on the computer at an appointed date and time. Check out the other cameras around NYC!
I also enjoy watching the remote areas of Alaska.
http://www.akmining.com/webcams.htm
and
http://akweathercams.faa.gov/index.php
There is even a camera that updates, I think every 5 minutes, on Mount St. Helen!
http://www.fs.fed.us/gpnf/volcanocams/msh/
There are MANY more websites that offer more of the same. If you don't have anything to do, go look around the world - LIVE!
If you find some that really interest you, send them to me and I will post the link!
I was told about this really interesting site: http://www.flylady.net/
You just have to sign up for it and try it. WHEN I apply her suggestions, the change is amazing!
The emails can get overwhelming sometimes, but on those days that I really cannot follow her lead, I just delete them and pick them up the next day.
The shabby / cottage style is so varied in its design! It can range from old flea market finds to very sophisticated victorian fancy decor. I call it Primitive to Prissy. :-) I really like the old chippy distressed look. The more distressed the better! My husband still cannot understand why I want to buy something new for the house provided it looks old!
Old architectural pieces on each side of the hearth and old chippy window screens camouflaging the fireplace screen gives it a very unique look (window screens are removed when using the fireplace, of course).
Then there are the pink shutters.......
What is the shabby and chic cottage style?
I love the shabby style. In fact, I've been decorating that way for the past 30 years. I started going to flea markets and thrift shops when I was in my 20's because I could not afford to buy expensive furniture. I began to get such a feeling of accomplishment when I would take an old beat up table or box and transform it into something that received praise from my friends! I got addicted to that feeling!
Well, someone else came along, put a trademarked name to it and marketed it internationally. Well, it's just the flea market decor many of us have used and loved most of our lives and by now - WE are the experts!
I'll be talking more about this look on my next post.
I tell you, Make Mine Pink has lots of talent over there!
These are some of the eclectic shabby pink chic items I recently bought from Laura's Pretties
:
http://www.lauraspretties.com/
She does the sewing herself.
This pretty fabric sachet bag below is so sweet. It came with a lace sachet inside.
It was made from a retired Rachael Ashwell (TM) fabric. I love it!
I LOVE teapots and this has become my favorite!
This is the whole collection I bought.
Have fun at her site!
This is another of our Spring items!
So Shabby Pink Door Knob Hangers
I love these gorgeous doorknob hangers. They are soft and make of fabric and trimmings.
These are the only 3 I have left. They are currently on sale.You can see them at :http://www.soshabbypink.com/
Another product I received recently from another Make Mine Pink member is this adorable little chocolate bunny pulling a wagon full of jelly beans! The little sheep in the foreground is going to live hanging around on door knobs from now on. Her products are available at:
