Alright today's all about chilling out at home. Family thing. Haha. Oh my mum just brought my out to shop. Haha. I guess she needs someone to accompany her to shop, but me, my bro and my dad are not overly enthusiastic about shopping. Haha. Read alot about maid abuse in Singapore. I really do not understand why some employers ill-treat their maids. Maids or domestic employees todays are part and parcel of many people's lives these days. Today, the cost of living is high so dual-income families are crucial. So these domestic helpers take care of the household to give us a peace of mind at work. Hence, why go to the extent of not giving them enough to eat, or being stingy about the food he maid consumes, or wear, or whatever superficial issues? They too are humans and they are already paid measly, as compared to normal Singaporeans! So give them greater leeway and not only would you feel happier, but it lowers your chances of getting strokes and high blood pressures! It is already very stressful at work, so why make life at home so terrible too? Haha.
Alright, I guess thats enough rambling for the day. It feels damn nice and comfortable to be sitting with the laptop in front of you, the TV on, in an air-conditioned room belonging to you.. haha. It's like your heaven. No one disturbs - peace. Haha. I love it. Thats THE life. Haha.

Alright, after that we went Holland V. Haha. Has been quite some time since I've gone there. haha. Anyway, 1st went Starbucks there to chill out. Haha. The Starbucks there is damn niceee. Haha. Not that many people and the ambience is perfect. Haha. Love it there. Haha. Waited for the other guys to make their way there. Met up with Choon Wei, Chris and Kang Sheng before going Crystal Jade La Mian Xiao Long Bao at Holland V. Alright we ate ALOT! Haha It's buffet u c. Haha. Steamboat plus Tim Sum.. Haha. It was nice at 1st.. but after alot of food, it becomes dreadful. Haha. Anyway had a great time there! Haha. Exchanged gifts for X'mas too. Haha. Happy occasion.

Alright, after that meal that busted my daily calorie intake, I went to run today! Haha. Went to run with my dad at East Coast Park. Ran a good 10km! Haha. Nice. Burn off all those fats. Haha. Haven't run in a week le.. but guess my stamina was fine. Did it in around an hour or so. Haha. Weather was great too. Running along, I get to enjoy the sea breeze, the aroma of the BBQ there, and the crowd. Haha. ECP was as usual that crowded to day. AHha. Nice to enjoy some fresh air, especially in todays urban environment, where cars fill up the roads and produce tonns and carbon dioxide. Haha. Feel so refreshed now. haha. Almost a week of my break gone le. But I guess it was pretty well spent. Haha. Now to enjoy the next half of my break! Haha. Chow! =D

Today was supposedly to celebrate Yewei's commissioning as an OFFICER, make up for his birthday on tuesday since we couldn't go out then, and yes, wanyee's sudden urge to go to the Zoo. Oh and it's damien's 1st visit to the Zoo! Haha (coz he's Malaysian u see.. )Alright the day started with everyone calling our dear dahlia to wake up in the morning. Me and yewei like call her multiplw times but she never pick up the phone! Evil. So we thought she was still asleep. Haha. It's expected. But our ever so persistent john called her for like 20 over times before she bothered to pick up! Haha. And to everyone's surprised, she was already awake! Amazing! Haha. She was just too lazy to pick up the phone. Haha. Alright so I first went to meet yewei at bedok b4 going to meet wanyee, dah, john and damien at AMK. Haha. Believe it or not, this is my 1st time to AMK MRT station. Haha. Alright, everyone was pretty much on time. (once again to my surprise. I've known these guys for 3 yrs le and they are NEVER on time. Haha. ) Ok, next we took bus 138 to the Singapore Zoological Gardens!
Great place. Havent been there for eons le. Everything has changed le! Haha. The tix are pretty ex tho. $23 for admission plus unlimited tram ride. But alright they are worth it for a day of fun and laughter. Haha. Took lots of photos. Yes Lots of them. See my facebook for them. HAha. Its was really fun but yea all the walking and laughing made my legs ache and tummy growl at the end of the trip. Haha.
So yea, after that we went on to CityHall where we 5 hungry people went to chomp at Hotpot culture at Marina Square. Haha. Ate so much i wanted to puke. And John and Yewei can really eat man! Haha. Steamboat Buffets are always the most interesting. Coz it gives us time to chit chat while enjoying unlimited flow of food and dessert. Yum! Haha. U know it feels great to be able to sit down and have a good meal with a group of good friends. Really enjoyed it man. Haha. Buddies for life! Haha. So thats about it for now. I'm busy uploading tonns of photos that we've taken today! Haha. Dahlia u must really thank me ok! ahha. And john I'm too lazy to send u the photos. U get them from facebook k! Ahha. =D

Anyways this week everyone seems to be busy. The Uni kids are having their exams. NS guys all like book out late too. Haha. Damn sad weekend. LOL. I'm freaking degrading in NS. No idea what to do with my life now.
Oh and bro's birthday's coming. Gotta get something for him next weekend.
Oh and i read through One of my favourite singer 林宥嘉's 神秘嘉賓 lyrics. Found the lyrics to be pretty interesting. It's very metaphorical in nature. It literally depicts a person's life as a stage. A performance. A journey. Sounds cliche but hey, it does work sometimes.
It's an apt description of life I guess. New people enter and leave one's life at various points in life and each and everyone contributes to the excitement and passion of life. I guess everyone has to move on no matter what happens and yes, we control our own lives. Not god. Not your parents. Not anyone else. It's nice to have such songs that make one reflect on life once in a while. Makes NS more passable. Gives people some sense of hope. Haiz. That's life.
Oh damn gotta book in later.
SIAN-NIFIED.

Have been rather lethargic all week long. Anyways, just wanna rest this weekend. Haha. Have been back tracking and reading my past entries. Realised this blog is more than 4 years old already. Haha. And yes alot of things have happened during this span of years. Happy memories or bad experiences- All these contribute to the very person I've become today. My entries really make me think back and remember the good old days in TMS and TJC. The people that I've met. The friends I've made. For the good or bad? I'm in no position to judge. All I can say is that many people have entered my life and left. 所谓世上没有不散的宴席。All good things do have to come to an end. And I guess the memories left behind is something really worth treasuring. I guess that's a good reason for me to keep my blog alive. The little things in life that makes spending a few minutes blogging all seem worthwhile. Haha.
Alright so that's about it for now. YawnzZZ

I feel that our world is developing at a rate far beyong what our environment can cope with. This is evident with recent more-drastic-than-normal changes in the weather conditions and the rapid loss of biodiversity. Dramatic weather conditions such as Hurricane Katrina destroying millions of homes in the USA, the underwater earthquake leading to Tsunami in Indonesia, longer-than-ever droughts in Australia leading to widespread forest fires. All these are signs of the environment succumbing to the extensive and intensive damage that we are subjecting it to. These are all the results of our unintentional actions to make the a better place. We all choose to develop our cities in a bid to increase our people's standard of living and quality of life. But who would expect that this results in increased air pollution through vehicle exhaust, increased electricity consumption, and greater dependence on mechanisation, increased waste as people get wealthier and adopt more undesirable consumption habits and greater loss of biodiversity through clearing of land, extensive use of the sea( overfishing, increased shipping, etc). Ironically, it's because of their actions to improve the world that they speed up the destruction of the very place we live in, and hence reduce quality of life as a result.
In my opinion, we are facing such a problem because many key personnel in society lack the thorough understanding of the problem we are facing. On the surface, it may seem as if China's rapid economic expansion of up to 10% per annum since the year 2000 proves that China's development masterplan is one that is effective and has foresight. But it simply takes one visit to the more industrialised areas in China to destroy this entire dream-like senario in our minds. Looking at the state of its natural environment, I feel that something needs to be done, and it needs to be done really soon, before things go out of control. Ask any teenager on the streets and they would probably be able to tell you that there are already measures put into place- Kyoto Protocol, Montreal Protocol, Government initiatives to encourage renewable energy, etc. But to me, what we need now is not these plans. What we need now is concrete action. Some things need to be done now. That's why I would like to commend certain orgainisations and government that have brushed aside political and economic pressures and pushed for environmental conservation.
The Netherlands
This is the country that places the greatest emphasis on the development and use of renewable energy. Such energy sources range from wind, solar, thermal, heat pumps, biomass to hydroelectricity. Currently about 10% of their total energy is met using these renewable sources. Although the Netherland does not own the largest rivers, the greatest land surface area, nor produce the most waste, the amount of energy they derive from these sources are the most. They do not have the highest GDP per capita, but still they are the most environmental friendly country. So much for the stereotype that such renewable energy requires massive funds. This is done by the two-way understanding between the people and the government. The understanding of the people reduces the level of political pressure faced by the government when they plan their budget at the start of every fiscal year. The government also increase employment through the operation of these high technology operations and they see the use of renewable energy and the greater ability to save the environment a milestone for the country and a mark of a highly developed state. I totally agree to it and commend its efforts and ability to stick by it through thick and thin.
Hyflux, Singapore
This is the company that is responsible for the developement of reverse osmosis, an essential process that allows waste water to be recycled into potable water. This drastically reduced Singapore's dependence on imported water from Malaysia and Indonesia. This comes at a perfect time when Malaysia is trying to raise the price of water sold to us. This method of obtaining drinkable water is still not as cheap as it should be, but it still beats desalination that is more expensive and pollutive. Although Singapore's action seems to have a political agenda behind it, I feel that it would be more appropriate to say that Singapore has took another crucial step towards environmental conservation. To add on, this advancement has allowed Singapore to take the lead in water management technology. Never would anyone expect such a tiny country to soon be self sufficient i water even without a fresh water source, but with this technology being further researched upon, it's won't be long before that happens.
The above are just 2 examplary examples of environmental conservation in each of their own fields. Very often it's when a country lacks something that they push for the development of it. Singapore lacks water, and hence pushed for greater water technology. Holland lacks crude oil and hence it pushes for renewable energy technology. It now seems as if these efforts are some what driven by economic and political factors. Once again, there's an irony. It's because of political and economic factors that many people and government do not dwell into research to protect our environment, but it's also because of these same 2 factors that accelerate their advancement in these fields. And this is what makes people think and go nuts, perhaps. Haha. I love how everything in this world is inter-linked. The link between science, engineering, environment, business, economics, politics.. The complexes the issue of environmental conservation, but it also makes it more exciting and this allows for people from different fields to associate with, bringing people together and pushing towards greater conservation of the environment. The vey place we live in.
Alright, these are just some of my thoughts on reading the book and perhaps the book would shed more light on the difficulties and problems of environmental conservation and economics development. But till then, that's all! =D

Anyways, back to the sunny island of Singapore. Yesterday touched down at around 4am, went to shop at the DFS and headed straight home after that. Kinda suffered from abit of jet lag. Haha. Anyways yesterday night went to grandpa's house to celebrate his birthday. There was a crowd and yea I kinda hate crowds. Haha. But that's not the point. Anyway, there was good food (I didn't eat much though, ate too much during R&R le.. haha), and chit chatted with my relatives whom I've not met up with in a LONG time. Yes almost a year. Haha. Oh and they can actually mistake me for my bro. Hmm. Is that a good thing? Haha. Anyway, I headed home pretty early coz everyone was tired from everything. Haha. So the day ended there.
Today woke up pretty late. Went to help at my dad's shop before going off to meet Wei Chong to pass him a few CDs and lunch. Haha. After that went to Parkway to do some shopping. Bought a new book entitled "Hot, Flat and Crowded" by Thomas Friedman. It's a non-fiction book about Climate crisis and all the greeny environmental stuff. It's something that most people my age wouldn't read for leisure, but heh, I do find it darn interesting. Haha. Weird me. Anyways I also bought 3 new CDs. They are 为你而活 by 神木与瞳, 魔杰座 by 周杰伦 and Sixology by 林俊杰. Haha. Just one month away and so many new albums are out. Haha. Spent quite abit but heh! It's been a month man! Hahaz.
It just feels good to be home. =D

It made me realise that some things in life are definitely worth treasuring. Simple things such as friendships, relationships, kinship. And yes, there are many things in life that is fated. Superstitious or Real. I choose to believe. And hence, I believe that some things that are not meant to be will never be. Everything happens for a reason and I would want to believe that everything good that happens is to be treasured, while anything bad that happens is a step essential for future happiness. The unpredictability of life, the excitement of life, the passion for life. Aren't they all the same?
Anyways later probably gonna send Karl off to Australia. Guess he's going there to be a pilot. Congrats dude and wish ya the best! Jia you!
Lol. I, too, is going Australia in 2 weeks time for training. Should be on the 5th. Haha. It's gonna be a very busy 2 weeks ahead b4 Australia. so I guess this blog would probably be left empty till like 6 weeks time. So till then.. chow!

Anyways, last week went to meet up with Xuan Ping and quite a few of the MSU guys. Yea he's got back his pink IC and is going to Beijing University to study econs on a PSC scholarship. So cool right. Haha. Anyways, we met up at Dhoby Ghaut and had lunch at Ajisen Ramen. Haha. Nice to be with the guys away from army. There's so much segregation and politics in camp. Such peace is hard to come by and yea, I treasure it. Haha. After that went to play pool and arcade. Supposed to play lan after that, but I went off earlier to meet up with John and Betsy. Oh wish Xuan Ping all the best in his studies! Oh and he will ORD in like 6 years! Wahahaha. I'm such a bitch. LOL.
Haha. Watched Make it Happen with them at Cine. Hahaz. Quite nice show except that its very short. LOL. After that went to makan Pepper Lunch with them plus Vincent. Haha. Very nice to meet up with my besties for a meal. Really miss those JC days! Oh yah, after that went to shop for Vin's bro's present. Supposed to attend his wedding the next day. Shop for quite a long time, not knowing what to buy, I finally decided to share a nice box of chocs with john. Haha.
Now here comes the twist. After I went home mum told me that my great grandma's death anniversary was the next day! And that all my relatives would be coming over for breakfast and lunch! And i HAD to be there coz my great grandma used to 疼 me the most. Haha. So once again, I had to pang seh john and gang. Didn't go for the wedding. So sorry dude! I sooo owe u a meal! Haha. Sorry to Vin too. Initially agreed to turn up but didn't go last minute. Paiseh yea. I feel damn bad.
Anyways this week's a long weekend. Because Friday's a forced company block leave. So yea. Woke up pretty early to follow my Bro to deliver his mooncakes. Yes he drove, if not i would never have followed him. LOL. His Hall stuff is like squeezing every ounce of energy out of him man. So much crap to do, how to concentrate on studying? Haha. After that went to send my coveralls to the army shop for some sewing. Haha. Friday was such a rushed leave so didn't really plan things to do. Haha. Anyways spent the rest of my day slacking at home.
Oh yea, I bought 梁静茹 new album: 今天情人天. It's a damn nice album! It's a few songs from the older alum but mostly new and live songs. Damn nice. Oh have i ever mentioned that her live performance songs exactly the same as the CD. She's THAT good. Haha. Some song really worth listening is 今天情人节,如果能在一起,崇拜,诱惑的街,梦醒时分 and C'est La Vie. Go listen. It's highly recommended!
Then yeaterday went over to my aunt's house for family gathering. Really enjoyed it man. Good food, good wine, good ambience, good people. What else can I ask for man! Haha. We had a guy to guy talk, literally (Coz my paternal cousins are all guys!). Had great time watching soccer, F1 and yea BOLLYWOOD movies! It was great! Oh and my oldest cousin is getting engaged this year and married next year. Haha. He's only 24 lahz. But god damn it, he's a high flier. Gifted student, RJC, Lawyer. Wow. Haha. Anyways my best wishes. Don't know the exact date yet. Hope I don't miss it coz im going Oz in October. Haha. Everything was nice that night. Next gathering would be at my Uncle's house. So nice. So looking forward to it. =D
And to my bro, go for it dude! Don't let a bad experience hinder your way! Jia You! =D
Oh and to Gerry, Happy Birthday dude! Haven't meet up with u in a long time. But anyways wish u all the best!

Despite so, there's something missing in my life at the moment, and I've got no idea what it is. Strange isn't it. I feel this deep sense of emptiness and sometimes, I would think if it's regret.
Regret about putting no to command school? Maybe. Sometimes I do wonder what life would be like if i did enter command school. Haha.
Regret about not applying for medicine? Maybe. The prospective of being a doctor is fantastic enough for me not to imagine.
Regret about not putting in effort for my scholarship interview? Maybe. The temptation of not having to pay for my education is too much. And the free cash.. Damn.
Regret about not applying for overseas university? Maybe. The prestige and freedom, away from the stresses of the local education system. Why not?
Regret Regret Regret. It's a terrible thing to feel. And I hate it. At every stage in life, one would tend to look back and say to one-self. What if.. What if.. What if.. Too many of these "what if" is terrible, but one can't help but think this way. I know I have to be contented with my life but never once did I stop thinking about what would life be IF I took another route in life. Too tempting. Haiz. This continuous thoughts of possibilities is causing distraught to my mind. So perhaps my 19th Birthday wish could simply be for everyone including myself to be satisfied with the present and believe in the decisions that one make. It's no point regretting in life I guess. Life's too short for that. Minus away such negative thoughts and life seems so much lighter and brighter doesn't it? Haha.
Oh and big thanks to my bunkmates for celebrating my birthday in camp! Haha. Really appreciate it. (minus the taupok! HAHA)
Wednesday, August 13, 2008
Anyways Uni has started for most people (or rather all those that matriculated this year). I guess everyone's gonna be busy with work and everything. BUT I want to get out of house soon! Hahaz. So many things i want to do and buy. Haven't gone out with my JC friends in quite a while. Haha. Anyways so thats about all for now. Cya to all. =D

Anyways yesterday went out with john and betsy most of the afternoon. (coz Vin's stuck in camp doing guard duty!) Went to watch Wanted at GV Marina Square. Pretty nice, lots of deception and violence. LOL. Quite a good plot. Lets just say it's enjoyable. =D After that the 3 of us went to play pool because we had to wait for Cui Xia to knock off before going dinner together. Ate at Fins Seafood cafe. Haha. The food was pretty good and it wasn't that pricey. Haha. After that the of us had a good stroll down Singapore River. Had a good talk with them and yea, it's moments like this that make us reflect about life. Thanks for the company guys!

过后便与朋友们看了一场电影-You Can‘t Mess with the Zohan。

This week has been pretty lax. Had the energy and discipline to run 4km everyday. Kinda proud of myself. OM course ended a week earlier, and i managed to pass the test! Amazing. Anyways 7 July is the start of 1SIR mobilization. Going over to Mandai Camp soon. So i guess these 2 weeks of preparation is going to be quite tiring. Oh wells, it's about time though.

Crappy weekend. Just when I thought that I could enjoy my long weekend, I actually caught a cold which then evolved into a horrible fever. It started on Thursday actually, but i just endured throughout the last leg of my course. Was having terrible headaches then. Oh well. What can I do. But at least my fevers almost subsided by now, but my throat still hurts. Damn. Can't enjoy good food this weekend. Sianz. I hate it. And yes, I missed Zulu PL4 S4 outing! Haiz! Terrible.

Alright have been going out with 01 people for both weeks. Last week went PS and around Orchard area to have dinner and shop with them. Oh and i saw one of my MSU PCs at PS. Haha. Thank god he didn't recognise me. Then yesterday went to makan with Vincent and Shan at Vivo. After that managed to shop a while. Bought the new game Command and Conquer 3: Kane's Wrath. Haha. Wei Lip told me that it was out so i went to look it up. Damn cool game. Guess i will be stuck at it for quite some time. Haha. Alright then i bought the silicon casing for my ipod nano too. It's ORANGE! LoL. I also bought a book entitled " A Thousand Splendid Suns" by Khaled Hosseini. It's about poverty in Iraq and the discrimination that they face. It's fictional but I thought it would be interesting to understand other people's stand on such issues. But the most important thing is that I've really got to read more. I've got many interviews coming up. The earliest being NUS Biz School Interview on 21 April. Got to be more prepared in case they ask. Haha. I think I'm such a realist. Then perhaps I've got to prepare for the NUS and ExxonMobil Scholarships too. Interviews are such a hassle. Haha. But since i applied I've got to stick by them and go for them.
Alright looks like it's gonna be a long week ahead. Looking forward to bookouts. Time please travel faster?

Anyways have been desperately meeting up with friends these couple of days. On friday went to Bryan's house together with PL4S4 people. Haha. Yea, quite fun. Had lots of food and rubbish talking. I always like the idea of putting yi hui, yi xiang and frankie as buddies in SISPEC. Hmm, the smell. (anyone in PL4 would know what i mean. Haha) Alright after that went down from Newton area to Parkway to meet 4E people. Had dinner with them. After that went to play pool, which i apparently sucked at (yet i still won coz adam and meiying kept getting the black ball in the wrong hole. Haha) Alright that about enough activities for that day.
Sat invited TMS ARC people to my house for dinner. Oh mind I had pizza again. Haha. Have been eating alot these days. Alright then we went video EZ get DVD to watch. Borrowed Zodiac to watch. Apparently its super long movie that has no ending. Haha. Watch till kel and ade neck pain sia. ahah. Oh yah supposed to go out with 01 people too, but too bad clash. Haha. Alright maybe another day bahz.
It has been a pretty eventful week of break. Haha. Looks like i won't have much of such breaks in the near future. Haha. Now to look forward to the next weekend...

Sunday was alright. In the morning went to Ang Mo Kio to visit my maternal grandparents. Haven't seen them for ages. Had some talk and then went for lunch with my bro and parents at Thomson. Haha. Brings back old memories. I can fondly remembered when I was a kid, my parents used to bring me to Sentosa, Zoo and all those places pretty often. And for some reason, we always end up at this restaurant in Thomson. Haha. Guess my parents weren't exactly intrigued by the word "variety". Alright, the food was as good anyway, after not going there for at least 10 years. Anyways after that Dad fetched me to NUS open house. Met up with john, ye wei and vincent. Hmm, I realised that the open house hasn't changed a single bit since 2007. It was quite a waste of time actually. My only reason for going there is to find out if NUS Global Merit Scholarship would allow me to do a double degree. I guess it was more useful for john and yewei. The lady introducing Pharmacy was pretty good actually. She gave me quite a good understanding about the course. I was so tempted to change my course of study. But too bad, they didn't offer DD. So forget it bahz. After that because we were so truly bored there, we decided go find a place to chill out. Lol. So there we went, half way through the island to simei to slack. Settled down at Starbucks to have coffee and my blueberry muffin! Haha. Have been wanting to eat some sinful stuff ever since I POPed. After that all of us had to go home for dinner. LOL. I reserve most of my Sundays for family because I don't really spend much time with my family ever since I enlisted.
Looking forward to meeting my other groups of people that I haven't seen in quite a while! N my bunkmates!=D
P.S. Vincent! Faster POP lah!

Anyway, I'm happy that I finally have the chance to meet up with friends and family. Haven't had the luxury to do much of so ever since i enlisted. Haha. Oh yes and there is university admission. I applied for NUS Chemical Engineering and Accountancy Double Degree and NTU Chemical Engineering and Economics Double Degree. Not too sure if I can cope but I feel that it's definitely worth the try. Also, applied for 2 scholarships that I really want. NUS Global Merit Scholarship and ExxonMobil Public Scholarship. Did up a lot of the paper work yesterday. Now just short of letters of recommendation, which Mrs Aileen Lim was nice enough to promise me. My only reason for applying for a scholarship is not to make my parents pay for my university education. This perhaps would give me some degree of financial independence too. Haha. No idea if I would get it, just trying my luck. Competition's stiff this year. Hope everything turns out nice and fine.
