Today's Rant.

Proudly brought to you by some annoying people i know.

Pet Peeve:

i really cannot stand people who tries to act cheem in emails. its very telling from the filler words or strange forms of words you use that they're trying too hard and end up sounding somewhat stupid.

"Should you have any urgent document that require his signatory..."

wahlau, signature then signature lah. signatory is a person. unless you intended to call him His Signatory like His Majesty or Her Highness, but i dont think so.

also, whence, alongside, reckon, hitherto, heretofore, henceforth.

are these really necessary? do they make the message clearer? does this make you sound smarter?

a resounding No for all the above. #dontsoactplease

i'm being incredibly bitchy today, sorry.

HI I'M ALIVE!!!

i've never gone for such a long hiatus on my blog before so this makes me feel a bit guilty. but i've been really really busy, plus micro-blogging on instagram and twitter seems so much easier sometimes.

in these few weeks of hiatus i've managed to read quite a few books (because my mac's wifi-card is spoilt, and my iphone signal is still close to zilch, which means i'm almost living in an internet-less cave, which means going back to primitive forms of entertainment aka reading) so i'm quite proud of myself. i haven't read in awhile.

Books i read which are worthy of recommendation:
1. The Statistical Probability of Love at First Sight (Jennifer E. Smith)
2. Dash & Lily's Book of Dares (same author as Nick & Norah's Infinite Playlist)

family day at my new company went well. it was my first time being part of a team that handled a large-scale event a 100% so it felt frustrating and stressful during the weeks that led up to the event, and yet satisfying, at the same time. we had a FLASH MOB which went down fantastically, so as the mother of the flash mob idea (coordinator and dancer) i was very pleased with myself hehehe.

in other news, i've settled quite well in the new company. my team does a lot of rara work so i'm constantly "exposed" which means in a short span of time i've managed to shrug off the "new girl" vibe and it makes working much easier. not like i want to be bffs with everyone or something, eew, i haven't become that sort of girl yet.

so anyways, christmas is coming soon yay! i was thinking of potential items for my wishlist on my way to work this morning when "shawl" popped into my head. i've never pegged myself as a shawl person, its just so... dowdy. but here i am, constantly hiding under a shawl in the office; it's either draped over my shoulders, tied around my neck, or covering my head and ears fatimah-style when the aircon gets to windy. i need more shawls for variety.

kidding. so here's my christmas wishlist:

1. A new bag (maybe Marc Jacobs idk)
2. ASOS gift cards!
3. More travel opportunities
4. ATTEND COMIC-CON
5. Learn a new language
6. For Gabe to finally find the dream job he wants, or attend the dream school he needs for his Masters.

right.

so this morning, i finally decided i've had enough with not being able to download the latest games (plants v zombies 2 to be exact) and other photo apps because my iOs was way too old, so i tried to update it, and it... crashed. or bricked idk. whatever it is, its in a recovery mode loop, and iTunes politely told me its an Error -1 while the experts i rang up gravely told me its a hardware failure and its as good as dead.

WHATTT.

all i wanted was to kill some new zombies!

remember when we were younger and we wanted to hang out with our friends? we'd use our house phone to call their house phone, set a place and time and that was it? if someone was early/late you just sit there obediently and wait until your friend shows up? i'm finding it very hard to do that now.

so in the meantime i'm going to be using gabe's very laggy unlocked iphone 3 and my very old ipod touch 2nd gen. i've also taken leave tomorrow so that i can go to the Apple service centre because i really can't function without a phone and i want this settled asap.

no mondays are more difficult to wake up to than the one right after a long weekend. (or block leave.)

my very long birthday weekend at the end of july (i took leave on thursday and friday) was healthy (hiked 5 hours at MacRitchie and fed many hungry mosquitoes along the way) and fun (spent a great day at Adventure Cove which i thought was better than USS) and filled with sweet surprises (gabe revealed a giant birthday poster at the top of the MacRitchie treetop walk and made me my favourite potato salad!) and happy moments. have never felt more pampered and loved so i declared it the Best Birthday Yet.

the very long p.h. weekend which just passed went great as well. caught the ndp fireworks, "partied" at Avalon, had a sleepover, had karaoke and beer (haven't sang my heart out in awhile so that was quite shiok) and tried Mookata for the first time!

in other news, between my last proper blog post and this, i've obsessed over Doctor Who, completed my Doctor Who marathon, went on to obsess over Suits, and have just completed my Suits marathon. am moving on to start on Pretty Little Liars now. sigh, the lull period on US tv is always the worst. i'm eagerly looking forward to the return of my usual shows in the fall, like Parks & Rec, The Walking Dead, and Vampire Diaries. woopeedoo!

(also, still trying to work out something on tumblr, thats why this blog has been so dead.)

kthxbye.

BIRTHDAY WEEK!

CAN'T WAIT FOR ONE WEEK OF AWESOMEBALLS WITH FRIENDS AND GABRIEL.

Monday, July 08, 2013

I know today is Monday and you assume it’s going to suck,

but according to statistics, there will be over 5,000 weddings, 10,000 childbirths, and 42 million hugs occurring today throughout the United States. Also today, there will be at least 4 people that will win the multimillion dollar lotteries, 600 people will get promotions at work, and 3,000 people will lose their virginity. There will also be 600 dogs adopted, 35,000 balloons sold, and 800,000 skittles eaten. Plus, the words “I love you” will be said over 9 million times. So again, I know today is Monday and you assume it’s going to suck, but just smile, because according to statistics, it should actually be a really nice day.

So near yet so far.

for all of us. for the things that truly matter.

why must life make it so hard for us to get what we want?

You’ll meet her. She’s very pretty, even though sometimes she’s sad for many days at a time. You’ll see, when she smiles, you’ll love her.

so many things to say but don’t know where to start.

its my second week at my new job at the hospital, but technically I’ve only been in the office for a few days; spent 2.5 days very sick and on mc, and 2 days in a workshop for newbies.

i’m still in the midst of recovering from culture shock; there’s something to be said about working in a “government job” and located on a very old compound, as opposed to working in the biggest bank in Singapore in a less-than-3 year old building. i’m quite used to the pampered life of having a big pantry that comes with sofas, tvs, pool table, free drinks dispenser, and a Pantry Auntie who cleans and replenishes, and our internal postman uncles. its different around here; things are old(er) and processes more manual, and my table is only a third the size of my old table.
But my boss seem really nice and sincere, my colleagues have been great, my desk faces a backyard which houses a family of squirrels (!!!), and i've received more "thank you" and "have a nice weekend" email replies in one week than a month at the bank. and that’s more than i can ask for.

oh yeah, the cabin crew thing a few weeks ago went kapoot when i arrived late for the final interview haha. and we all know the japs have a thing for punctuality, so i guess thats that. wasn't too concerned about it in the end because i wasn't willing to go overseas for training for a few months, and their pay was kind of shitz anyways.

in other news, gabriel just got back from his Mt Kinabalu trip with his family (which i have cleverly chosen to skip) and so i'm going to be spending a few nights at his place hiding from the haze. really surprised the folks were okay with me spending a few nights away from home, and despite all the inconveniences and discomfort from the haze, i'm glad for the opportunity to be spending time with gabe.

but really, its about time my parents understood the importance of having air conditioning in the house. i can't imagine how they can survive baking in the house with all the windows closed 24/7.

what a good break its been!

cambodia was an eye-opener in so many ways. it was my first time touring a 3rd world country, so i wasn't expecting that many houseflies and mosquitoes and homeless people, and so few dustbins. and it was crazy hot! the first day we were there, there was a blackout for nearly 8 hours, and i nearly died from sweating so much. luckily i brought my trusty torchlight along for the trip, not like it helped with the heat.

i think i'm an over-packer, i bring everything for a trip. all gabe has to do usually is settle his own clothes, and i'll settle everything else for the two of us; adapters, portable chargers, medicine, plasters, hand sanitizers, hand-held fans, wet wipes, antiseptic cream, mosquito wipes, surgical masks, etc.

apart from the whining and moaning, i think i'd make a good/useful traveling partner.

stayed at some great places like this and this. spent quite a abit of time hiding from the heat in our hotel, watching AXN (our choice), Nat Geo and Animal Planet (my choice), and WWE and CNA (his choice obviously), and battling it out in monopoly deal.

in terms of eye candy, there were zero good-looking guys or girls in cambodia. except one, which was my boyfriend, as evident from the consistent flirting he gets every time we went for a massage, which was, everyday. (hashtag: if you need an ego boost, get a massage in cambodia!)

so the girls will be like, is he your boyfwen? i'm like, yeah. and they're like (giggles) "He's velly hansum" and proceeded to happily massage (molest) him. okay so maybe thats their ploy to get more tips and they tell that to every foreigner/customer (they even told me i'm "beautiful" but i'm not buying it) but sometimes i secretly want to smack their head so they would stfu and let me enjoy a zen massage moment beside my boyfriend.

overall, it was a nice, long vacation (9 days!), and i leave the place appreciating singapore more, and vowing to be a better girlfriend.

YAY! HAPPY ANNIVERSARY GABRIEL LOW!

XOXO!

Wednesday, May 08, 2013

isn't it scary how quickly time flies? here's a lowdown on what i'm looking forward to:

this sunday: cabin crew final round interview!
next friday: last day in DBS!
next next monday: two year anniversary!
next next tuesday: gabriel ends his exams!
next next wednesday: cambodia!

(yes, everything warrants an exclamation mark.)

but meanwhile, i'm spending every waking moment missing my boyfriend, who has temporarily ditched me for his textbooks. the number of hours we spend together now are about a quarter of what we used to. i miss him so much!

urgh mushy. shut up sandie.

* just realised i have yet to upload the photos of our australia trip last august (gasp!)
