the interlude of the hiatus

I'm still under hiatus... but I'm bored.

Someone please tag. Entertain this blog.

I give you a topic: The solitariness of an impecunious bachelor exemplified in a black minimialist depiction.

Is my cheem English enough to intimidate yours? Or can you think of something better for a blog description for this blog?

physics olympiad

I stepped into the atrium at the entrance of LT28 in NUS. I was surrounded by the greatest brains in the country. What else? It's the Singapore Physics Olympiad (SPhO).

RJC and HCI oversent their people again. So many of them. Shaun Sim jokes about Mr Daniel Khor complaining about this unfairness. He also says about him wanting ACJC peeps to stay for the entire length of 4 hours. Siao. Some unfaithful people just couldn't do it haha.

The paper was just insane. I shall not harp on it. But there were some seriously easy questions like projectile motion ( 4 marks) and 1 explanation question which is free marks. You see, in physics, its not the physics that kills, its the Maths. All in all, I only knew how to do a handful. It was a pity there was no rotational stuff or relativity, which are easier stuff. I consider it an achievement to sit through 4 hours with a demanding paper. For the last 2 hours, it was very unproductive, and that was when the headache sat in.

If Shaun Ng can do only 3 questions, I think my standard isn't that bad after all. Shaun Sim says he knew only the first question and the easy ones. I thought that first question wasn't that hard at all, even though I could'nt do it but I knew the principle behind it (You see, physics is easy, Maths is difficult).

From now on, I shall continue my hiatus till 31st October, my OP day. Then it's time to chiong NRP.

The 2nd hiatus

Ok. It's supposed to be called post-promos. But I still got 4 major stuff I need to do.

1. Singapore Physics Olympiad
SPhO is coming up this Tuesday. I'm at Young's Modulus in the University Physics textbook. Still got a long way to go to cram all the physics. Yes, people, today I've been bombarded with congrats but I'm still a long way from being ready.

2. Nanyang Research Programme
NRP. I'm supposed to resume after promos but obviously I haven't.

3. Project Work
The last hurdle... OP! I've to finish finalising the content tonight but I've haven't started my work.

4. Chinese A levels
I'm supposed to write a Chinese zuo wen everyday but I don't I think I can with all these equally important stuff. Perhaps after SPhO I will chiong here. If I were to get an A for Chinese, it will be the biggest ever shocker. C5 in Os to A in As. Cool. I can say this because I thought my oral and listening was unexpectedly worthy of distinction... which means at least 2 grades up!

In lieu of these demanding and horrible stuff, I've decided to make this blog dead till 29th October 2007. The date of the Chinese A levels. Yes, the second hiatus. Rather unexpected. So goodbye and have fun because almost everyone else can enjoy their post promos with only PW and Chinese As. Also, prevent me from playing and time-wasting if you see me around. Thanks. (:

bubbleteaboi: a short story

My internet username: bubbleteaboi

This is the username that I have always been using since Primary 5. I tell you all a story of why I use this username.

Prior to using bubbleteaboi, I never really had a permanent username. In Runescape, I used pikaking_15. In yahoo mail, I used ianlee_1990. In Neopets, I used charkiller and pikaking_15 and several others. In Tactical Commanders, I used some weird username. Of course, these usernames are now defunct in the mentioned sites.

bubbleteaboi holds a special significance to me. The username occured to me as I was thinking of a username for probably a new account in Neopets shortly after the following event. In Primary 5, I went to some Methodist funfair in which my class, 5.9 of ACS(J) (2001), had to man some store. During that time, it was the peak of the bubble tea craze. Of course, in funfairs, there had to be a bubble tea stall, so across our stall was a bubble tea stall. In all, I drank and bought 3 bubble teas during the whole time I was there. My friends thought that drinking 3 bubble teas was quite a feat and they were quite amused. So there came about the name bubbleteaboi!

In Primary 6, when ACS(J) held its carnival, my class set up 6.9 cafe + LAN shop at the school library. As I was bubbleteaboi, me and several friends thought of making bubble tea for the cafe. It was a brillant idea because many people bought our bubble tea even though it really sucked. In the end, I think my class collected the most money in the funfair and I know I did my part in contributing to it. (:

I have variations of the username. For example, bubbletehboi, NoL.BuBbLeTeA and bubbleteab0i. These were inevitable when I wanted to create multiple accounts for the many games I played. Variations of the username can be found in Gunbound, Neopets and Warcraft III, Hotmail, HardWareZone and the other websites I use.

A search in Google shows that bubbleteaboi comes out in Everquest. Seriously, I had never even played that game. So sad, there's others who use my name, I thought it was original enough. Nevertheless, I have never found another person in any site using my username. That's good enough. (:

Here's another thing tied to bubbleteaboi...
My usual internet password: *secret*

There's letters and numbers, so there's many permutations. (: This was suggested by Bryan, my cousin, when I was thinking of a new password and he just happened to be at my house. I'm still using it now, even though I use different ways of the basic form of the password for different accounts so don't ever think of hacking haha.

That's all. If I told you all the details there is, I'd be expecting a virtual disaster. haha. :D

THIS ONE JUST READ LAH! Makes SENSE. Beauty looking for rich mate owned.
Beauty said:
Okay, I’m tired of beating around the bush. I’m a beautiful (spectacularly beautiful) 25 year old girl. I’m articulate and classy.I’m not from New York . I’m looking to get married to a guy who makes at least half a million a year. I know how that sounds, but keep in mind that a million a year is middle class in New York City, so I don’t think I’m overreaching at all. Please hold your insults - I’m putting myself out there in an honest way. Most beautiful women are superficial; at least I’m being up front about it. I wouldn’t be searching for these kind of guys if I wasn’t able to match them - in looks, culture, sophistication, and keeping a nice home and hearth.
Anonymous replied:
Firstly, I’m not wasting your time, I qualify as a guy who fits your bill; that is I make more than $500K per year. That said here’s how I see it.Your offer, from the prospective of a guy like me, is plain and simple a crappy business deal. Here’s why. Cutting through all the B.S., what you suggest is a simple trade: you bring your looks to the party and I bring my money. Fine, simple. But here’s the rub, your looks will fade and my money will likely continue into perpetuity…in fact, it is very likely that my income increases but it is an absolute certainty that you won’t be getting any more beautiful! So, in economic terms you are a depreciating asset and I am an earning asset. Not only are you a depreciating asset, your depreciation accelerates! Let me explain, you’re 25 now and will likely stay pretty hot for the next 5 years, but less so each year. Then the fade begins in earnest. By 35 stick a fork in you!So in Wall Street terms, we would call you a trading position, not a buy and hold…hence the rub…marriage. It doesn’t make good business sense to “buy you” (which is what you’re asking) so I’d rather lease. In case you think I’m being cruel, I would say the following. If my money were to go away, so would you, so when your beauty fades I need an out. It’s as simple as that. So a deal that makes sense is dating, not marriage.
Somebody's Interpretation of the moral of this story:Financial education is very important! It is always good to be able to write and express yourself well.

THIS ONE damn funny. sillyporeans are smart.

There's a general saying - "Laughter's the best medicine". Hope the following article works wonders for you too.Why Singlish is better?Use Singlish. It's so much cheaper, shorter, faster. Why do we insist on using the Queen's English, when Singlish is so much more economical and effective?Compare and see!

When going shopping...
Britons : I'm sorry, Sir, but we don't seem to have the sweater you want in your size, but if you give me a moment, I can call the other outlets for you.
S'poreans: No Stock!
When returning a call...
Britons : Hello, this is Mr Bean. Did anyone page for me a few moments ago?
S'poreans: Hello, who page?
When someone is in the way...
Britons : Excuse me, I'd like to get by.
Would you please make way?
S'poreans: Siam lai! or Siam, hor! or Skius!
When someone offers to pay...
Britons : Hey, put your wallet away, this drink is on me.
S'poreans: no need lah.
When asking for permission...
Britons : Excuse me, but do you think it would be possible for me to enter through this door
S'poreans: (while pointing at door) Can pass or Not?
When asking to be excused...
Britons : If you would excuse me for a moment, I have to go to the gents/ladies. Please carry on without me, it would only take a moment.
S'poreans: Go toilet. Buay tahan ahh.....
When entertaining...
Britons : Please make yourself right at home.
S'poreans: Don't shy shy lah..

S'poreans: So how?

S'poreans: Talk cock lah you!

Britons : Excuse me, but could you please lower your voice, I'm trying to concentrate over here.

i feel like suaning

After physics SPA went out with 1SA2 peeps and allan and david. Watched Nanny Diaries. Ok movie. Give it 3.5/5 rating. I very lenient already. Basically wasted and let the day rot at Cine.

Physics SPA was no problem. Tricky though. This one's about a metre rule pendulum.

Tomorrow is Chemistry SPA. Hoping for the best.

I shall be random and talk about random stuff. Maybe I should suan my own class.

I just visited the 1sa1 class blog. It's still dead. I just tag it in a bid to revive it. The class jacket project is still in the works. No posts in both the old and new blogs for very long already.
Today at cineleisure, I saw most of the scones watching movie/eating Subway as a class. However, 1SA1 seems to have had no proper class outings since like 1st 3 months period at bala's house.
In class, whenever a person proposes a class outing, not much enthusiasm is shown.
In the candeck, 1sa1 has never sit as a class eating together during breaks since like 1st 3 months period.
Not a single birthday has been celebrated as a class since like 1st 3 months period... even the scones are more interested in this department.
Mr Ong Jin Yi once said during tennis PE that most of the guys don't mix with the girls when playing tennis.
I still haven't experienced the togetherness of 1sa1 as a class that I had experienced with 4A1.

I have presented more than enough evidence to treat my own class as a class which is a not a class. Certainly, this must not continue. I know all of my classmates are proud to be in SA1. It is a class with an outstanding reputation in ACJC. We are surely trying our best to keep up to it. But there exists an innate defect in the intricate social fabric of our class. I cannot pinpoint the source(s) of the problem, but it is apparent.

From now on, I pledge to keep SA1 as a class that truely exists as a class. As an individual, I do not possess the power keep such a pledge. As a class, we do.

blogging using OPV-MOV style

today i will blog some things that concerns many people. I will be using Mdm Ong Leh Hwa's OPV-MOV style lol. Sorry for lack of evidence.

1. Friendster vs Facebook...

Which is better?
My stand: facebook. haha.

Other people's viewpoint (OPV):
Friendster can personalise the profile, can write comments, less complicated than many application facebook, Facebook not many of my friends use...

My own viewpoint (MOV):
Facebook has many fun applications - can interact with friends better. Can also write comments on wall, the photo book can put higher resolution peektures. The company is worth at least US$1 or 2 billion, wanted by google, yahoo... David said: once you use facebook, you're not going back to friendster (i'm using both now anyway)

Conclusion:
Facebook wins hands down because it encourages you to be involved in fun activities with your friends.

2. Is the Singapore education system a waste of time?

My Stand: Yeah, it is.

OPV: Very thorough... CCAs + academic.. "all-round" holistic education... makes you well-rounded (fat!), prepare you well for working life, give you time to mature before you go university or else you make a fool of yourselves there

MOV: Why are there 16-year-olds foreigners in university (my brother discovered this in SMU)? Can't we have more too? (more flexibility), Primary school and secondary school is a waste of time... when reach junior college suddenly must chiong so many things cos the afternoons of secondary school we are very free, the things they teach in primary school or secondary school are all lies... eg. Chemistry O level... chemical bonding... wtf no orbitals... and so on... freaking waste time, hello... give people who want to deprive themselves of a normal playful childhood a chance to study topics that are relevant to them and the topics should not be lies that simplify the gist of the topic.

Conclusion: Singapore's education system should adapt a more flexible system and stop faking to say that the system is very flexible now... it's not, ok... especially when you see young and smart people of other countries in the universities and the ultra smart Singaporeans are still stuck in Junior College or Pre-U. Give them the express route to develop their talents.

That's the end. haha.

no more promos!

Promos have ended. Start of SPA period.

Shaun Tay's msn nick said about the law of diminishing entertainment is setting in. Yes, how true because playing is getting boring haha.

Last friday, there was General Paper and Chinese. GP was ok, at least B, could be A. Chinese was ok, C is enough. (sorry for my lack of vocabulary)

On monday, there was Economics. I cannot figure out why they had to split the paper into case study and essay with a break in between. Case study I can own. Essay was horrible because I managed only 3.5 pages and other people can write 5 at least lol. Verdict: give me A leh! I can't live with B for econs.

On Tuesday, there was Physics. MCQ was lolx. So easy. But in my dumbness, I changed one of the right answers to a question and realised I got wrong when I thought about it just after the paper was collected. lol. Paper 2 was a killer. haha. There was tons of definitions, just when you thought that the education system is moving away from rote memorisation, they are still going back to it. Verdict: A for physics! I need a H3 here.

On Wednesday, there was Maths. A 3 hour paper. I finished in 2.5 hours. Managed to solved most of the difficult questions. Left out 1 entire question just because it was worthed only 3 marks and the working is pretty tedious. People said it was a killer. I say that it was of ok standard. Verdict: Give me A leh! Need to prove to kayden lim that I'm not a weakling at Maths. I'm just confounded by the real thinking that I need to do for doing a H2 Maths paper, so unlike A Maths.

On Thursday, there was Chemistry. Not many can finish the paper in time, including me. Do-able Section B and C, because Kuna said that the MCQ start later. So chiong my resources on these two. When I reached the MCQ, I had 35 minutes left. Aimed for 1 minute per question, but obviously that's impossible for me. I never exactly finished everything as I needed to skip several questions that require horribly tedious calculations to keep up with time. Verdict: sucky paper. If got luck, A is not impossible. At least a B is inevitable.

FINAL WORDS ON PROMOS:
Kuna said to have fun and treat exams as a personal challenge. Obviously, I can't have fun and I will never will in exams, especially that comment coming from someone who sounds like he slacked a lot in his studies (no offence here). When we study, we should be serious and focused instead, and yes, treat as a personal challenge. Fun only comes after the freaking boring study time and then the law of diminishing entertainment sets in... Oops, I got carried away. Anyway, promos was a crazy personal challenge because the time you get to study all the heavy content is only at night because 1 month before it there was still open house to prepare for and then school is like the whole day for the next 3 weeks. This means, very little time to study, and yes, lots of people do pon school. I'm not one of them anyway. As for my promo results coming out soon, I hope for the best and thank God for bringing me through it. I pity those people I know who are already planning to retain.

So after the Chem paper on thursday, me, eng loong, emily and sarah when to wheellock and ate sakae sushi and it cost about 70-something bucks. About 20 bucks per person. I swear we could have eaten the sushi buffet instead haha. I hate wasting my meagre amount of money, becoming bo lui fast. Sarah was so indecisive in watching class movie or continuing with us. Dunno what's with her. In the end, she ran off to Vivo. So there was left yel, em and me. btw, 6 pointers, em and me, think alike haha, we managed to pwn yel in the restaurant. In the end, we were pwned by him at the escalator, idiot. Then, we went to wander in Orchard and then went to Taka and eat somemore ( so full we still eat haha). Over there, Kenneth Koh joined us. Then em left. Then 3 of us met Liling and Cassandra. Liling was so stupid in self-pwning herself by saying why would me, yel and kenneth be together... oh ya, they are in the same section. (zomg. how long you need to realise that especially since you are in band?)We all walked around and then went to dhoby ghaut MRT to the arcade. In the arcade, one of the games was the many mini-games machine. Kenneth very siao in that game, dunno why, owned everyone. Later, I asked my dad send Kenneth home at University Road. He said he going mark bala house after that (I say: wah, rich people party). Kenneth's house is right at the end of the road, about i very very very very long way in from the Dunearn Road entrance. No wonder never see him take bus 48 with me cos he has to take cab to reach his house haha. By the time I went home already 10.30pm.

My weekend, including friday, is boring. Sit in the house only play Wii, which the most fun video console ever. I just started on Zelda: the Twilight princess.

SPA is coming out next week. On this monday is physics SPA and tuesday is chemistry SPA. Maybe I will study for them tomorrow because I know what's coming out already. Cambridge and MOE just got pwned.

Ok, I'm off for now. Very long post indeed.
