NRP... and racial harmony
i'm back.
blah. yesterday i was alone most of the time but it was exciting.
first, school. I brought the laptop to school and kok loaded it with O2jam and it became a gaming machine. go to school to study or play? you decide. yeah, kok with his wonderful jamming skills attracted some attention. I was kept stunned by the way he can combo to insane numbers. The mini-crowd was stunned too.
Then starts my exciting aloneness. After school, I went to the coffee bean at holland village and i bought a caramel ice blended. nice stuff. and it's large too. I sat there and then took out the laptop. I put the laptop on linux os and did my nrp research thingy.
Basically, I have to take readings of the wireless connection there using the signal strength recorded on the console on the screen. first thing, I drew an accurate layout of the coffee bean shop. 2nd, walk around taking 5 readings at each table. 3rd, record the readings on the map i drew and a table. finally, locate the access point.
As I walked around, I felt a bit weird cos I was moving around the shop and there were so many people in the afternoon. Nevertheless, I completed my task. Before I draw out my readings and maps on the computer, I can infer like being under the access point may not the best spot for connection and signal strength could be difficult to create an accurate representation of your position in an indoor space. Maybe I should go and meet my professor to discuss these matters.
Nevermind that the reader of this post finds it unexciting, but the person who does it finds it exciting. If this not exciting enough, you can read the other more exciting posts.
Today is my brother's birthday and so happy 21st birthday to him! today is also the anniversary of the race riots in 1963, or rather, racial harmony day. Normally, this day would be a weekday, somehow this year it is on a saturday.
On the note of racial harmony day, would a day make a difference to the harmony in singapore? dunno lah. I say you go and ask the government, and they say that it is so as to remind us about the importance of racial harmony. This is true but I propose: everyday should be racial harmony day because racial harmony day sounds a bit like for only this day, all the different races will set aside their differences and we have peace.
Ever heard of the term 'racial tolerance'? It's a term that is sometimes used. I just don't like it. Tolerance means like in your heart you don't like somebody, but you try to bear with it. So racial tolerance means that you don't like the other races, but you bear with this hatred. So it seems like there is probably hidden, underlying tension within society when people use this term. Anyway, we should just stick to promoting racial harmony and not racial tolerance.
I going off liao - to study or in today's definition, to mug. I'm still a busy person and forever I will be.

PW EVENT!
I rikes today. What a nice day. Today is PW Event day. It didn't just went well, it was very well.
Thanks to all my group members - Kok, Jia Yi and Yong Ye. Nice job guys. Although I am the person working to make sure everything goes well, I feel so indebted to kok cos he's really the one who held up the event so well. He's the one who really entertained the children. His impromptu presentation was like super entertaining yet meets its purpose. Kok was so influential that he could make the children so happy at the end to pose for the Yong Ye's camera recording. I guess my decision to make him the main presentor of the presentation and the papermaking at the last minute was so spot on. Jia Yi was deprived of her chance to show how to make the jumping frog though. But she was good at being the demostrator for the papermaking part. YongYe, not a bad job after all, in fact, quite good.
Kok brought the turtle and I rike to squash it in front of him cos its so nice to touch. The turtle, our mascot, was the most popular thing during the event after I showed it to the children during the presentation. Even Kok was shocked. So he let the children touch the turtle as they left the multi-purpose hall. The children were so excited.
TYS actually came. He then vanished after a while. He was impressed, according to the email he sent after the event. He said the event was so well-planned, eloquent speaking, nice skit.... blah... Don't believe him anyway; kok saved the event from self-destruction using his skill for being so lame. TYS took YongYe's role and videoed the presentation part for us. So nice of him to come, and so unexpected cos canberra primary is so freaking far away from ACJC. Ah yes, and his email got some part say that we are his best students. LAWL
After the event, we interviewed Ms Pavrl. She was good at it lah. Me, the interviewer, was impressed by the interviewee. I feel as if I want to be an interviewer again. Ms Pavrl had gave a good review for the event, although she critcised about the high noise level of the children. But nevermind, children are meant to be so.
Ah, pictures. I go upload on some online album soon.
Thank you very much. As the group leader, I will treat everyone after writing the Written Report. Continue the good work for now.
I gotta go now. Have to go airport to welcome back half my familiy at this time of the night. And please read my previous post, I think its darn good. =)

Perception
I feel so light. Like a heavy burden that has went off me. No, I didn't lose weight. This is perception. Later I will talk about perception.
For now, I feel so light because my PW event has been finally sorted out. I spent a long night thinking and typing about it. It's on Thursday. Only 1 day left. But it will be successful. And I hope it contains loopholes because there's no way there is going to be much error for the part on improvements in the Written Report. I will see how I am going to spot for errors for improvement on Thursday.
Didn't I say I want to talk about perception? Perception is a how one feels about or views the events occuring or objects in his or her surroundings. Why do I choose to discuss it? Because I was at the bus stop just now when a man in a pink T-shirt came out from a bus. Then I thought, what if the world associated pink with boys and blue with girls? How would life be?
If pink was associated with boys and blue with girls in another world, I can imagine it. This is because this view in our world is simply a perception by most people. The environmental factors that has led us to think in only a 'straight' way is what has caused us this association. This occurs to me too, because I too was influenced by the environment. In order to change our original perception, one must have a lot of imagination to imagine the opposite of what one usually perceives. This is why I can imagine a world where pink is associated with boys and blue with girls.
Let us discuss perception in a different perspective. I once read in a book about one seeing red as blue or green as blue. What if a person was told that the sky is blue but in his eyes he sees the sky as red? Is this possible? I hope not. One would always see a red sky in the day or see blue plants, which is, according to my perception, not aesthetically pleasing to the eye. Therefore, with my personal perception, I would have concluded that this case is impossible. But why is this case still possible? This is because my perception could be wrong. There is no truth in perception.
If there is no truth in perception, does that mean that all our human knowledge could be wrong? Yes. The sciences are all about observations, in other words, how one perceives an event or object. In the same way, the arts are all about how one perceives something. The five senses of a human could be flawed in making observations because they help a human perceive his or her surroundings.
An illusionist presents his self-disappearing trick. The audience are amazed by his skill because they have perceived him to have dematerialised into thin air. Is is true? Certainly not. In fact, from the illusionist's perception, no illusionist actually disappears and no harm is actually done. This is the point I want to make. One should not worry so much about discovering flaws in one's perception. As long as anyone does not discover any flaws with human perception, we should continue to perceive as we always do because our perception does work well for solving the many problems we face.

ranting sucks
It's official. I'm a straight B student (with exception of C for Chem and dunno what's my final grade for econs) as I predicted to liyun. so sucky.
my academic graph! so sucky now at J1.
For the SMC ex-co interview, I dunno how I did. I wait and see whether I getting head of quiz. ang-cle is my competitor for the position. Seriously, I want it because I need a leadership position or else my CCA record quite bare. Sian, I also need more chances to participate in competitions. I need to win something for the school not related to band. I want to do it so badly.
maria (say maaaa---rrrrrrrrrrriiiii aaaa) makes empty promises. I am going to confront her on monday.
monday is stupid. kayden lim wants to collect applications of differentiation. It is also the temperature taking shit day. There's also physics olympiad (dunno whether daniel khor is still there to take us).
That's all my ranting for today. =)
Today I sightread Beethoven's Sonata No. 8 (Pathetique) Movement 1. I did it at a decent speed. What an achievement because I never managed to complete it as I got fed up at the 5th page last time. Tomorrow I will do Movement 2 (adagio cantabile). The one nodame played in the first episode of nodame cantabile. The piano should sing. For Chopin's Ballade No. 3, my teacher is making me master the most difficult part of the piece in one week. I will see how I cope with it.
blah, thats all. so late liao. i doing oscillations now. not hypnosis self-practice. physics tutorial lah.

today..
today is A level chinese oral. It is not so bad after all. Anyway I wasted a lot of time memorising for topics that didn't come out. sian.
today I received back half an econs term exam(case study only). My case study could have full marks if not for the first question which is on the trend of some graph. surprise i guess. considering I never in my life ever did a single case study in my tutorials, it is an achievement.
today mr tan yin soo successful applied for a blue slip for my PW group on thursday 12 july 2007. yays.
today I am suffering from 'missing band' syndrome. I want to play LOTR liao.
today there was a singapore science and engineering fair. sounds like i needed to go but i did not go.
today i finally completed my chinese project which i am supposed to read to a microphone.
today I feel like blogging properly, lets start:
Let's talk about the Live Earth concert on 7.7.7. The concert is to promote awareness about global warming to an estimated 2 billion people (should be concentrated in developed countries for more effectiveness). Do I think its effective? No.
People watch the concert to see their idols or stars or whatever. When their idols tell people about global warming, people will listen. Thus, people will support against global warming. And that's what the organisers think. I say, if that's the case, do you think people really care about protecting the earth? It seems that they are merely following what their idols say.
Ok, next argument. People will support against global warming, but for how long? This is the time factor. Is a mega-mega-mega concert going to impact people so much until they will remember the message of the concert to protect to earth for a long time to come? I think not. People may just get fed up of saving electricity and all that stuff.
Last and the most ultimate point. Isn't it ironic that a concert going to get broadcasted all over the world is going to use up a whole lot of electricity to supply energy for television sets and power the concert? Clearly, this concert will significantly contribute to global warming.
Concerts suck at promote awareness of environmental issues. Still, the best solution is to educate people in school. We can also have higher electricity taxes. Basically, anything that reduces demand for fossil fuels is also effective.

You have got this far into the post. Quite long and formal. Very sian but that's my view. Oh ya, don't forget to tag when you visit because I feel nobody ever visits this blog. thanks.
