Charlotte's school did a hat parade this year instead of a dress up which meant much less pressure. Of course we left it to this week to organise something and our first idea was 10 Apples Up on Top but we couldn't get any plastic apples anywhere. So we went with Cat in the Hat but we did a little play on words and put a cat in the hat!
Charlotte did it all herself so I was really pleased with her effort.

New Obsession
I'm blaming this all on Amy. After she posted this the other day I have been totally obsessed with new paper (as opposed to my obsession with vintage paper).
I've trawled online shops and then today I thought I would duck out to Fred the Needle and have a look at what they had.
I didn't get everything I wanted but I did get a nice selection. I checked out the fabric but I think Amy has probably cleaned them out. I did pop in to another fabric store out there as well and picked up these two fabrics on sale.

Gifts
Some friends of ours from school are off to America next week for a holiday so I made the kids these notebook holders to take with them.
I based it on the one this lovely friend made me. I did mine a little differently, I didn't quilt the front which meant I could just put it together with right sides facing and then turn it out.
I loved making them they were super quick once I got the measurements worked out (the first one was too small for the notebook).
I made them a vintage paper covered pencil to go with it.
I hope they love them and have a great holiday.

As You Like It Swap
Excitement this week in the shell. My package for Trash's As You Like It Swap arrived yesterday. My swap partner was Ali and boy did she do a great job. The swap involved posting 3 or 4 likes and then your partner had to put together a package containing 4 items using 1, some or all of your likes. My choices were: vintage, aqua and Japanese Kawaii. Ali decided to use all the words and this is what she sent me:

Giveaway Time
I missed my 4th blogging birthday and I'm 6 posts away from 500 so I think it's time for a giveaway.
I bought this lovely necklace by Naomi Murrell during the Lark sale recently because I loved it but when it arrived I realised it's just not me. It is valued at $59 but during the sale I got it for considerable less.
So leave a comment on this post, giveaway closes on Wednesday night 8.00pm (AEST). You don't have to do anything special, just say hi, if there is something that you might like me to post on say that too and current followers get an extra entry.
Good Luck. Oh and it's open to anyone.

Birthday Presents
Charlotte's off to a birthday party this afternoon, a pamper party. I'm thinking it should be the mums staying for the pampering. Along with the bought present (Aqua Sand) I made the little girl a pencil case with her name on it and I also used one of the additional face panels I got from Lisa to make an Ooshka.
And my Dr Suess clock finally gave up so I dabbled with this one. It's an original page from a Richard Scarry book. I'm thinking of doing some more and listing them on Made It
Stay tuned the giveaway is on it's way.

Happy
I've been tagged by Sophie so I just have to write 10 things that make me happy!
1. My family - pretty obvious really.
2. Sewing
3. Sydney Swans - I'm a big Swans supporter.
4. Glee - I was a latecomer but I can't get enough.
5. The great friendships I have formed with people I have met on-line
6. Op shops - especially when I'm lucky
7. Bargains - according to Jeff I am a sucker for the word sale
8. A good book
9. Holidays especially if it's going to New York
10. Sleeping in
I'm not going to tag anyone but feel free to join in and if you do let me know so I can check out what makes you happy!

My {Handsome} Hexies arrived in the mail today and they are great. A big thanks to my swap partner I love them all and I love the little pouch you made from them, although the kids are trying to sneak it away.

Ice Cream Social
Well I'm finally finished the Ice Cream Social. I love the finished dress now but I found some of the pattern instructions quite strange and at one stage vowed I would never make another but I will probably just do some of the things they way that makes sense to me.
I'm not sure if these colours actually suit Lucy, they seem a bit pale for her skin tone but she was happy with it.
I did View A with the double hem and I did the underside hem in the same fabric as the bodice and the outside hem in the yoke fabric.
A big thanks to Amy without her I am sure this dress would be sitting in the UFO pile.
