Weekend In A Nut Shell

Friday:
Friday night the family gathered for The Boys birthday celebration. Aunties, Uncles, Cousins, Sisters, Grandparents and one Great Auntie - it was a great time.

Saturday:
We spent Saturday getting ready for Kyle's arrival. The stores were mad with people, all of them trying to get some last minute supplies before the storm hit.

Sunday:
WooHoo, Sunday! I managed to get the family together for a meal. That made me very happy!
After dinner, we took a drive down the cove to see if there were any big waves. There were a few crashers but nothing too spectacular. Kyle's bark was much worse than his bite.

Friday Fill-Ins #91

And...here we go!

1. Pumpkins, colourful gourds, orange, red, gold, piles of leaves, Thanks Giving and Halloween are some of the things I'm most looking forward to in October.

2. Sometimes I wish I could just get it right.

3. Things change and anything can happen, and that's why there is a saying, "never say never"!

4. When I'm down, I have a loving husband and family who help pick me up.

5. Outside or at my computer is where you'll find me most often.

6. A rainy day is good for curling up to a good book or movie, or catching up on some household chores.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to going out to celebrate my sons 19th birthday, tomorrow my plans include the usual errand running and Sunday, I want to stay home and possibly cook a roast. I wonder if my kids will join me if I'm offering food?

TGIF everyone! Enjoy your weekend :)

The Sleeping Sickness -

City and Colour

Does it get any better than this? Great Canadian musicians! An Amazing song!
Have a listen :)

I awoke, only to find my lungs empty
Through the night, so it seems I'm not breathing
And now my dreams are nothing like they were meant to be
And I'm Breaking Down
I think I'm breaking down...

Autumn Equinox - Egg Trick

Only A Movie reminded me that today is Fall Equinox. I remember a trick with an egg that was said to only work on the Fall Equinox, so I gave it try.

Hey! It worked!
September Equinox

A folk tale claims that only on the September equinox day, one can balance an egg on its end.

Happy Equinox!

Last Day of Summer

Sunday turned out to be a great day. Hubby and I headed out early for a little hike at a wilderness trail in Victoria Park in Truro, about 45 min. out of the city.

This is one of the climbs that starts at the bottom of a gorge and ascends up, up, up. I'm not too keen on heights and may have had one, or two panic attacks. It took some coaching, coaxing, and a little loving persuasion on hubby's part, but I did it! I did it!
Me and Hubby after the climb to the top - I'm trying to look casual and not totally petrified.
Heading down into the gorge and the spring fed well at the bottom.
There were a number of pretty waterfalls along the trail.
Then we were off to the look off to watch the tidal bore. The tidal bore is a wave of water that moves upstream against the current of the Shubenacadie River. Twice every day the Bay of Fundy fills and empties of its 100 billion tons of water, creating the highest tides in the world up to 53 feet high!
It was a great day and a great way to spend the last day of summer. There was the beauty of mother nature all around us and I found plenty of inspiration that day.

One HELL of a climb!

(not to be confused with Jacob's ladder from the Book of Genesis)

I would love to tell you all how lovely the view was but I couldn't bring myself to look over the edge.

Goodbye Summer - Hello Autumn

Summer, I bid thee farewell. I am spending my last day of the season going on a hike with the hubby and maybe a kid or two.

Here's a little tribute to summer end -

The Last Day of Summer - The Cure
Nothing I am
Nothing I dream
Nothing is new
Nothing I think or believe in or say
Nothing is true

It used to be so easy
I never even tried
Yeah, it used to be so easy...

But the last day of summer never felt so cold
The last day of summer never felt so old

Never felt so...

All that I have
All that I hold
All that is wrong
All that I feel for or trust in or love
All that is gone

It used to be so easy
I never even tried
Yeah, it used to be so easy...

But the last day of summer never felt so cold
The last day of summer never felt so old
The last day of summer never felt so cold
Never felt so...

Friday Fill-Ins #90

Play And...here we go!

1. "There is no need to panic about the Canadian economy" - Is what our government keeps telling us.

2. Where in the heck did the week go?

3. Getting caught up on the laundry is all I managed to do (this week).

4. Prospects for a warm sunny weekend are looking good according to the weather forecast.

5. Love is the message. (or is it "Love is the subject"?)

6. Simplicity and tranquility are waiting for you.
7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to finding inspiration, tomorrow my plans include the usual errand running and Sunday, I want to try a family outing again, but not going to hold my breath!

~Have a beautiful weekend everyone!~

Migraine Monster

I keep trying to write a post today but auras keep clouding my vision. The Migraine monster will rear his ugly head soon, so I think I will shut 'er down for the day.

I read somewhere that Lewis Carroll's symptoms and effects of migraine auras are believed to have influenced his writing of "Alice in Wonderland". Hmmmmm.

The Love You Feel

I haven't posted a tune on here for a couple weeks so I thought I would share one today. Lovin' this song lately!

Made my day!

Well, I can hardly believe it - I am incredibly honored to have received this award. Thank you so much Shadow over at 1 Door Away From Heaven part II , you truly did "make my day"!

So the deal is - I don't get to keep this little award all to myself, I must share the love. I don't mind one bit though, I enjoy sharing nice things with nice people. So, here are the rules...
(1) give this to people whose blogs mean something special to you - or give it to the blogs whose persons mean something special to you
(2) leave a comment on their blog so they know they got it
(3) you get to pick the number of times you give it

My picks are:
The Philosophy of Chairs - Billy Rhythm is one cool cat!
The Bee in Your Bonnet - TopHat and her adventures in motherhood.
only a movie - One of my newest daily reads, a teacher from Northern New England.

Pleasing Things

Ever since doing Janet's Friday Fill Ins, I have been thinking about fill in #1. Too often, we lose sight of the little things that are truly satisfying. Despite all our bitching and whining, ranting and stressing, there are lots of subtle things that can brighten our day.

So here are some of my simple pleasures (in no particular order)...
  1. Snuggling in bed with my honey
  2. Smell of the air after it rains
  3. Hugging my kids
  4. A full belly
  5. Warm sun on my face
  6. Hearing and old favorite on the radio
  7. Slow dancing with or without music
  8. A good novel
  9. Walking on the beach
  10. A good belly laugh
I could go on and on :)

What are some of your simple pleasures?

Autumn Fun Apple Picking

Weekend Update with Photos

What was suppose to be a family outing apple picking, turned out to be only part of the family. Baby girl and The Boy had other plans and weren't able to make it but we had a great time with just the three of us.

I will keep trying to get us all together for a family outing - eventually the kids will all tire of my nagging and give in.

Friday Fill-Ins #89

1. I enjoy fresh clothes right out of the dryer, the comfort of a warm blanket on a cold night, the smell of an ocean breeze. I enjoy the sharing of ideas, emotions, and love. I enjoy being caught up in 'the moment'. I enjoy life!

2. The future is something I wonder about often lately.

3. In your heart, you knew I was right -- I'm always right!

4. Take fear, add a little anxiety and you end up with emotions running rampant.

5. Life has gifted me with a loving and supportive family.

6. A good book is an instant vacation.

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to dinner at home with Hubby, tomorrow my plans include taking Priss and Baby-Girl shopping and Sunday, I want to enjoy the day with the family apple picking!

Have a lovely weekend all

Wordless #9

This Wordless is an explanation of Wordless #8

York Redoubt is a fortress that was built in 1793, situated on a bluff overlooking the Halifax harbour entrance. This fort is located near my home, and hubby and I often go to there for a stroll or sometimes make the hike down to the shore. This photo is of a tower along the shore, overlooking the harbour. This area of the fort is deteriorating and undergoing restoration hence the "Danger" sign in my previous post - Wordless #8.

Apologies and Regrets are Owed

This morning I opened my blog to find my previous post was bombarded with comment spam. I was totally disgusted and embarrassed, and I offer my sincerest apologies to all my readers, especially to those of you who were personally targeted by this rude individual. Please be assured, all the comments have been deleted and I will be monitoring all comments in the future. I now realize (little to late), I should have selected the moderation option when I first set up this blog -- I take sole responsibility for the incident that occurred this morning.
*Note: If you come to my blog solely to abuse my readers or me, if you come here to post comments that stray from addressing the published topic, and anyone using anonymous handles or invalid email IDs, if you think your right to free speech is inalienable when you behave like an ASS, you should know, your comment will not be posted.
Providing a quality environment for the readers who visit my blog is important to me, I hope that this one "bad apple" didn't spoil the whole bunch!

Weekend Update

Had a fantastic weekend on Prince Edward Island --hubby and I went over for his cousins wedding. We left home on Friday morning and arrived in PEI around 6:30 pm. Met up with other family members for a yummy dinner at an Italian restaurant, then back to the hotel for some well needed sleep.

Saturday, the weather was perfect, and so was the wedding. It was great to get to visit with family and friends we only get to see once maybe twice a year. Good times!

Sunday we were up bright and early for the long drive back home. PEI has a bridge that links the island to the mainland (12.9 kilometers, 8 miles). When the winds are high and road conditions are wet or slippery, they close down the "link" and stop the ferry service to and from the Island. We had been watching weather warnings both Friday and Saturday, and didn't want to risk being stuck over there for another day so we decided to get an early start. Luckily, the weather held off and we made it home without any problems.

Friday Fill-Ins #88

This week I'm going to use rather obscure song lyrics; you can fill them in with the correct words if you know 'em...but wouldn't it be more fun to do it a bit differently?

And...here we go!

1. If I was to walk into your life, would you welcome me with arms wide open?

2. Catch a bright star and place it a jelly jar
Let it glow, let it light up your life
Let it be your beacon for the night.

3. And you can send me an angel to fight my demons.

4. I can't change what I've done, have many regrets, and but I'm dealing with a memory that never forgets.

5. I'm the innocent bystander / Somehow I got stuck between the rock and the hard place.
(And I'm down on my luck -- Yes, I'm down on my luck -- Well, I'm down on my luck)

6. What's keeping us apart isn't selfishness,
What's holding us together isn't love

Listen to the man who's been
touched all his life
Yes he's the one they call the fool

Where is that savior of the sidewalk life
and the road that takes us to the crusades
I've seen those shadows
as they're moving in my sleep
leading the blind poet to his grave

We still got a long way to go .
(I'm a huge Alice Cooper fan)

7. And as for the weekend, tonight I’m looking forward to getting to my destination at a decent time, tomorrow my plans include a family wedding out of province and Sunday, I want to get an early start home!

*phew* That was a hard one --Happy weekend all!

She's flown from the nest

A little slow with the updates this week, it was a hectic weekend with the big move and all. I never realized that my daughter had so much stuff crammed in one bedroom but she did. We managed to get her all moved and set up in the new apartment over the course of three days. So far, Priss seems very excited about her new adventure, being out on her own for the first time — but I think she will miss us after the novelty of "living alone" wears off. Me, I'm not quite at peace with it all just yet. I'm wondering how long before this empty feeling goes away, or if it ever will...
