This is part 2 of our Montana trip... I'm just slow.
Here's the cabin (Dad you may have taken this picture a couple years ago??) Unfortunately, we didn't take very many pictures while we were there! What were we thinking?! I love this place! MANY childhood memories were born here. It originally started out as a bar and dance hall from the early 1900's, turned into a house and then bought in the 60's by my grandparents.
After living through World War II and the drop of the Atomic bomb, my grandparents felt it necessary to have a place to go, should the world start to fall apart, basically. Plus, they wanted a place for their kids to enjoy being together and learn about down to earth things. I'm glad they took the leap.
After their kids were all married and families were growing bigger, there were several pregnant women there at the same time, they realized that they needed more then one bathroom (the outhouses didn't count!) : ), and more space. At that time there was 1 kitchen, 1 bathroom, 4 bedrooms (one was the bunk room that had, well several bunk beds in it), 2 living rooms and a back room that had washers and dryers and storage stuff.
They decided to double it back and replace the old roof. My grandma told the contractors the pitch for the roof that she wanted and they headed back to Billings where their regular house is. They came back after a couple weeks and the builders had to add 2 stories on top to get that pitch! My grandparents thought, "well, we can pay them to take it down, or we can pay them to keep going. " They kept going, but ALL the family was able to help with something through the years. Grand kids wallpapering bathrooms, dads and uncles sheet rocking, and building everything. Most things the family built.
After there were rooms, my grandma asked my grandpa, "Oh Teddy, can I paint on the walls?!" (as my grandpa told my dad and me one day--she's a professional artist--AMAZING!!)
Now, there are themed bedrooms and other murals throughout the cabin. There are now 13 bedrooms, 8 bathrooms, 4+ living rooms (it depends what you count, there are lots of sitting areas) and 2 kitchens (the old one is more of a place to store food though now). (This is also from a couple years ago, maybe my dad took it too?)
Here's what we took this time:
Here's what Halle referred to as the, "scary stairs" they are pretty tricky, and she was pretty proud of herself when she figured out how to use them herself! There's a story that goes with these stairs... there's a story that goes with everything in this house! There wasn't enough room for a full staircase to come out into the room below, w/o over taking, so my clever grandma came up with these (she may have seen something like this in a book??) Anyway, if you step right, left, right it should feel (to full grown people) just like going up the stairs, it just doesn't take up as much room.
Here's Wesley shooting his cousin's bow.
Here's a video my brother Nick took and sent to me--thanks Nick!
Don't you just love Montana?!
Here's another one...
The old chicken coup. When my dad was a kid they kept chickens here in the summertime.
Hi Jameson!
