Lake Powell

We didn't think that there would be a trip to Lake Powell this year.  Christopher's oldest brother sold his share of the old houseboat, and in theory, wasn't going to buy another one until they finished building a new house.  I should have guessed that he just couldn't resist.  He found a new, better boat, and went for it.

None of us complained about the old boat, but it had it's difficulties.  The generator was loud and needed more gas every few hours, the boat was docked a football field or two away from the cars on shore (hauling food and supplies for a week for 30-40 people made that awful for our hosts), and the fridges rarely worked, so all food had to be kept in coolers for the week.  It was miles better than camping, so it was awesome.  The new boat made all the difference for my sister in law, though.  They pull it out of the water so that you can load it and unload it right next to your car, and with three fully functioning fridges, we no longer had gigantic coolers stashed all over the boat.  They could just buy the food the night before and put it on, instead of freezing it all for weeks.  I'm so glad it is easier on them to host us all!

Of course, on the first trip out on the boat, I nearly killed my camera.  I didn't realize a huge wave was coming, and my camera was drenched.

I thought this would be the last picture on that camera,  I was thrilled when it resurrected a day or two later.  It felt like a miracle.

We went on a hike the next day to see Rainbow Bridge.

It was a really hot hike, but a nice trip.

I love the places this girl finds to sleep.

And I love her giggles with her cousins.  She loved chasing her friends around all week.

We found some really neat slot canyons nearby on the waverunners.

And of course, I take the most pictures of everyone bouncing around (and off of) tubes.

Though tubing wasn't all we did.  Plenty of other shenanigans.

I might not have many pictures of Kaitlyn, since she doesn't like tubing and spend most of her time on a paddlboard wandering our little cove with her cousins, but she was a busy girl.  And when we drove home, she was exhausted!
