Summer randomness

The rest of summer was, happily, not all that eventful.  We kept busy somehow, but the calendar looks fairly blank, and I like it like that!

We spent as much time as we could at the cabin.  I went there for a few days while Christopher was at scout camp, which was a lot of fun. (I prefer to go with him, of course, but his work commute kept us in Pleasant Grove more than I wanted this summer.)

We went on a hike, as usual.  But this time, it was decided that walking sticks and backpacks with snacks were very important.

I showed my kids how to take selfies at the campfire one night.  I'm still bad at them, but they thought it was a lot of fun.

Oh, and my crazy sleeper.  One day we hadn't seen her in a bit, and went upstairs to find her wiped out amid all the books she was trying to read.

And then another day, I started to panic when I couldn't find her.  She has been tired, so I thought she wandered inside to go to sleep, but she wasn't in bed and no matter how much I called her name and looked all over the house I didn't see any trace of her.  Thankfully, Kaitlyn knew one of her hiding spots.  She was behind the play house.  In fact, I had to move the house to get her out (and take this picture).  I had shouted her name three feet from this spot.

We spent the rest of the summer at the pool and Classic Skating, thanks to our summer passes. My goal was to use each pass once a week, and while we didn't quite make that, we had a lot of fun.

Pictures are hard enough to take in the bad lighting, let alone with a phone.

For Pioneer Day, we ran another 5K as a family.  It was free, which is great, but very popular.  I was so glad we left Jasmine with her Grandma!  People were trying to navigate with strollers, but it was crazy.  Tyler and I did great, though.  I pushed him, and we came in at 35 minutes!  Kaitlyn, on the other hand, got a little too eager to keep up with everyone around her, and left it all on the first mile of the race.  She was a bit sad by the end. But we found her favorite first grade teacher, so all was well!

The rest of the weekend was a bit of chaos, unfortunately.  Christopher had signed up for a triathlon with his friends months ago.  He didn't really want to do the race they picked, but they were all going together, so he started training.  And then, with a week to go, everyone else dropped out.  I wasn't planning on going, since it was guy's trip only, and so I had plans with friends Saturday night.  He could either drive himself 4 hours to run a race by himself, or we could just ditch it.  So instead, we found a spot at a campground on our drive home from the 5K, and claimed it for the weekend.  I had no idea this campground even existed, but we loved it!

The kids were in goofy mode while Daddy was studying his work stuff in the trailer, so of course I had to snap a few picture.  Jasmine has been excited to give us all check ups lately!

And once she realized I was taking pictures, she posed for me.  Why do they look everywhere but at the camera?

"Mommy!  Take a picture!"

This campground is really high up, and right around the corner from a popular lookout.  We went over to the lookout on the holiday itself to see all of the fireworks across the valley, which was really neat.  And then we went back to hike the next day.

The bonus of staying in Provo was that I was able to go to dinner and a show with my friends, as planned, and head back up to the campground afterward.  Maybe next year Christopher will make it to Idaho for the triathlon!
