Star Wars Song

Just FYI-
I added a Youtube video to the bottom of my blog. If you have time, check it out. It is really quite incredible.

Where I'm From

So, my students and I are writing poetry. We used the poem "Where I'm From" as a mentor text. Then we tried to write our own. This is what I came up with. (I don't think it's amazing, but it reminded me of so many great things I thought it would be fun to share!)

Where I’m From
By Susan Stott

I am from cloth diapers and clipping coupons to save money
From Tide and Downy.
I am from huge rolling hills covered by grass
(Green, sweet smelling, that tickled your feet as the wind blew).
I am from Holly Hobby wallpaper
And tape dividing the bedroom I shared with my sister,
From Atari and brand new push button phones.
I am from ABC blocks
And magnetic letters.

I am from tuna casserole and homemade bread
(fresh from the oven the aroma
filling the whole house
pouring out the front door),
From riding my red, white, and blue banana seat bike
complete with a flower basket on front.
I am from the yellow station wagon with no seatbelts in the back,
From playing outside till the street light blinked on
(red rover, hide and seek, kick the can, ghost in the graveyard).
I am from building blocks
And fisher price people.

I’m from Grandma June and lemon drops,
"You’re my little lambs lettuce,”
From Grandpa Stott and abrazos,
“You eat, I dine.”
I am from “good stock” and “goodly parents,”
From Elmo and Pearl.
I am from cinder blocks,
used as shelves to hold my family photo albums,
And from memories held dear.
