Carols by Candlelight at Kirstenbosch

Every year the Kirstenbosch Rotary Club hosts the carols by candlelight at the Kirstenbosch botanical gardens. It is completely awesome, the best venue ever, and the candles just make it incredible.

For the first time we took all four kids this year. It only starts after 8pm because the sun needs to set and my kids are in bed around 7. It was great and the kids loved it.

The Springfield Nativity

Hannah and Megan are at a fabulous girls only school in Wynberg, Cape Town, called Springfield. Normally the nativity play is in the open air theatre in the school grounds, but unfortunately this year we had a rainy November so it was in the main school hall.

It was completely gorgeous, but we were very worried about Megan's big performance! She was one of the main parts, the star of Bethlehem. Now to give everyone a chance, a group of the girls are cast a narrators and the main parts don't speak. Well Megan was completely HORRIFIED that she wasn't speaking.

On the Friday that was the concert, she came home from school in a foul mood. She was rude, grumpy and plain miserable. After a bit of terrible behaviour, I sat her down. I told her that the star of Bethlehem really doesn't behave like this. Her answer... "The star of Bethlehem does NOTHING. It's a waste of time."

Needless to say, we were waiting for her to grump up onto the stage! But all our fears were unfounded and she was a complete star!

Hannah's little nursery class came on first as angels and were beautiful!

The Fabulous Springfield Pre-School Teachers

Springfield is the most incredible school, I feel truly blessed that we have been able to send our daughters there. We definitely could not have hoped for a more dedicated, incredible group of pre-school teachers.

Helen Moolman, Gillian Cubey, Janet Ehrhardt, Allison Dunn (Junior School Head), Camilla Lynch, Debbie Shaw, Rene Beyer (Pre-School Head).

Oliver and Cameron's Nativity Play

The boys had their nativity play in the middle of November. It was called the grumpy sheep and completely divine! Oliver was a King and presented his gift of Myrr. Cameron was a shepherd and sang a solo!

Prayers Please

I never thought I'd be so stressed by an appointment with a doctor. But after today I am. I've got about 20 uncompleted blog posts, but I just had to finish this one.

I've had hand problems for ages, but lately it has become really bad. So after months and years of pain and stress, here I sit.

Today I discovered all the possibilities of the source of my problems. It is terrifying. I really needed someone to talk to, to confide in, but somehow the people I thought would care have too many of their own problems.

On Thursday I have the surgery. The tendons in my wrist will be cut, my middle and index fingers, and my thumb. I'm not scared about the surgery, I'm scared about the cause.

So please, keep me in your prayers. I really need them. I've never been this scared.

Cameron's Conversation

I love listening to the conversations that my kids have. Today's was a classic!

Cameron: Hannah did you eat my nuggets?

Hannah: No I didn't.

Cameron: Hannah, I'm not going to get cross, but you really need to tell me the truth.

Hannah: I had 1 nugget.

Cameron: That's a very good girl Hannah. Thank you for telling me the truth.

Train Trip

Roland's business partner Pierre decided it would be a nice idea to take the train from Johannesburg to Cape Town. Luckily not the normal sleeper train, but the Premier Classe overnighter.

It was great! We left Joburg at 3pm and had welcome drinks in the lounge on the train. After an afternoon nap, we had pre-dinner drinks followed by dinner.

Roland and I stayed up until we got to Kimberley at 11pm. Back in our cabin, our beds had been turned down with a chocolate waiting on the pillow!

Beautiful Sunset

Our evening on the train was a perfect one. And the sunset over the horizon was beautiful.
